  1. I'm not sure who will be a FA in 2020, but my guess is we can find a great defensive SS for pretty cheap.
  2. I've never been one to use RBI's high on my list, but this is a huge gap: 2018 RBIs 124 JD 77 Trout
  3. That's not my criteria. Bogey may cost near twice as much as JBJ to keep. I'm also very biased towards great fielding short stops. Kinda the same way I could care less, if Leon hits as a catcher as long as those he catches bring home the bacon. It's close. I want to keep Bogey.
  4. Crooked numbers galore!
  5. I'll go in reverse (most willing to let walk-nothing to do with "love"): 1. Porcello 2. Kimbrel 3. Bogey 4. Bradley 5. JD 6. Sale 7. Betts
  6. You didn't mention IP, just like I didn't mention quality of innings pitched. My point was neither bypassed anything, just because we didn't mention it.
  7. 1) RP'er ERA is not a good way to judge, although Kimbrel does usually start innings with no outs. 2) I didn't bypass the point. We all know Kimbrel has better numbers than Porcello, but do you really think it outweighs the massive PA against differential? 3) I could say, "You totally bypassed IP'd," but I won't.
  8. I love Kimbrel. Free, free, set him free.
  9. I hope he waits until October, then busts out bigtime.
  10. It's not just about high leverage PAs against, and I mentioned high leverage is Kimbrel's favor. It's not like Porcello's 671 non high leverage PAs against are meaningless. Some of Kimbrel's high leverage PAs were a result of Porcello getting us to Kimbrel for the save. 542 more tot al PAs against has to be woth a hell of a lot more than 6 more high leverage PAs from Kimbrel. (Note: I actually thought Kimbrel would have a bigger lead than 6 PAs.)
  11. The Astros did have plenty of of key players out hurt, but I'm not sure all of them have returned to last year's form. The addition of Kinsler made a big difference to our IF defense, and Nunez seems to be doing better on D at 3B. Eovaldi was a big pick-up and adding Brasier to the ML roster has been huge. Pearce has slowed a little, but he was a great get, especially in light of Moreland's slump. Getting Sale and Wright back should also help us look better than we did a month or so ago.
  12. I'm not. I never use any stat or metric as the be-all-end-all, and I don['t think anyone else does, except for maybe harmony.
  13. Agreed, but also look at these numbers: PAs against 801 Porcello 699 Price 595 Sale 534 ERod 420 Johnson 361 Velazquez 331 Pomeranz 278 Kelly 255 Barnes 252 Hembree 239 Kimbrel Yes, I do think the PAs Kimbrel pitched to were mostly high leverage and "more important" than many of the PAs other pitchers faced, but not to the point where Kimbrel's 239 PAs against is worth the $20M Porcello gets for going 801. I get that one could argue Porcello is overpaid, but Kimbrel will end up with less than a third of the PAs against as a starter who goes 33 starts and 5+ IP each start on average.
  14. True, but my points still stands. The Pythagorean differential between Cora and Tito is a whopping 12 games! (Yet, if you go to the game threads, I bet more than half the posters would gladly take Tito back and replace the bumbling Cora).
  15. It should and does, but it's not everything either. Poyner has just 35 PAs against in the whole second half. Cuevas has 68, and most of them came in one game.
  16. The Guardians are apparently supposed to be 94-63 but are 88-69.
  17. Yes, which the Sox have done by 6 games, but Cleveland is 6 under theirs.
  18. Would you consider starting Eovaldi game 3 in NY, so he could be used in relief in game 5, if needed? (Would he be better in relief than Porcello?)
  19. My 14 everyday players... Locks (12): Betts, JD, Bogey, Beni, JBJ, Devers, Nunez, Kinsler, Holt, Moreland, Pearce, Leon Near Locks (1): Vaz Plus 1 (My order): 1. Swihart 2. Lin or go with 12 pitchers (below line have no chance) 3. Phillips 4. Travis My 11 pitchers would be ... Starters: Sale Price Porcello Eovaldi Long Relief/Middle men: ERod Wright Set-Up: Brasier Barnes Workman Closer: Kimbrel Plus 1: (My order) 1. Poyner 2. Velazquez 3. Johnson 4. Hembree 5. Kelly (above line still have a shot) 6. Scott 7. Cuevas 8. Thornburg 9. Pom
  20. They certainly have some great numbers in certain areas. They have all 10 of their top IP pitchers with an ERA under 3.95. One could argue starter depth is not as important in a 5 game series, but I agree, their pitching looks better, on paper. I'm not so sure the Sox staff is far away from the Astros as many might think it is. ERA- 1. HOU 77 2. BOS 83 3. CLE 85 4. NYY 87 5. LAD, TBR, AZ 88 You didn't mention defense: UZR/150 1. Cubs 7.5 2. BOS 7.1 3. CLE 6.6 7. OAK 4.0 10. NYY 2.9 19. COL -1.5 Offense: OPS 1. BOS .787 2. NYY .775 4. CLE .764 5. OAK .764 6. HOU .760 (The worst OPS of any AL playoff team.) Runs 1. BOS 833 2. NYY 802 3. CLE 783 4. OAK 782 5. HOU 781 (The least runs scored of any AL playoff team.) Maybe the Astros have the best at some areas, they also seem to be the worst at others. We are more balanced.
  21. Well said. Keeping the killer B's should be top priority.
  22. Nice job, oldtimer. Nice job.
  23. If Tito was managing the Sox right now, he'd have been roasted alive for our Pythagorean record differential.
  24. Yes, and they are the best Sox team in decades.
