  1. It's the year of the juiced ball more than the year of the home run. I'm seeing so many badly hit balls going over the fence. You can even see the surprise on some player's faces when the ball goes out after a poor swing. This is not the baseball I have loved for so long, but I guess the "new generation" is what this is all about. The one thing the new generation may force is the shortening of the game. We need that badly!
  2. No MLB team will ever have better than 50-50 odds to win it all as the playoffs start. Bet "the field." Certainly, the Yanks look very strong right now, and if the pick up a good SP'er, like I'm sure they will, they might look even stronger, but I'm still waiting for them to have a rough patch before the season is over. Then, maybe some will see them as being less invincible.
  3. The Yanks will not win it all, even if they get Scherzer. At best, they lose to the Dodgers in the WS. At best.
  4. Perhaps DD's biggest strength has been making in-season deals at a very low cost.
  5. Cleveland is playing very well right now, but they will have a tough stretch at some point. We will catch them, because we are better. Book it.
  6. Yes, indeed. My whole family comes from all over the world every summer. 20+ at a big lake house on Sebago. Life is good!
  7. Glad to see the A's lose, but those damn Cleveland Francos!
  8. Maybe they just felt like he was the closest pitcher to be ML ready and selected in rule 5, not because they liked him better than others.
  9. I'm in Maine now and will be going to a Sea Dogs game at some point. My nephew works at the park! I'll keep you posted. Love it her in Maine... in the summer!
  10. Seems the opposite, but that is why we can't always go by just our own feelings based on our observations. Numbers matter.
  11. Another game lost by the pen. Just kidding.
  12. Tough loss. We need to win more of these one run games
  13. After being one-hit, I expected a big offensive outburst. It's our MO this year. Maybe tonight we lose 2-1. BTW, we are lucky to be playing the Rays in a time when they are struggling. The Rays just lost 2 of 3 to the CWS and 5 out of their last 6. They are 7-9 in their last 16 games. They were 9-11 before that. 16-20 in their last 46 games before last night's loss.
  14. I've always liked UZR/150 better, and Bogey is consistently between #15-20 out of the top 30 SSs by innings. With this offense, I don't worry about him not being #5-10. Plus, there's a hell of a lot of very good to great defensive SSs these days, so #15-20 is not really bad.
  15. Top PA players & their OPS- BOS vs CLE: Red= .020 or more higher OPS BOS (PAs)/OPS CLE (PAs) .875 Betts(470)/ .929 Santana (425) .967 Bogey (438)/.699 Ramirez (410) .941 Devers (428)/ .853 Lindor (363) .875 JD Mar (409)/ .705 Bauers (347) .776 Beni (404)/ .679 Kipnis (331) .724 J B J (366)/ .801 Perez (273) .779 Chavis(331)/ .619 Martin (264) .821 Vazques(315)/ .838 Mercado (230) .859 Morelnd (174)/ .827 Naquin (212) .849 B Holt (138)/ .852 Luplow (188) .583 S Leon(126)/ .558 CGonzo (117) If this doesn't show it's "all about pitching," I don't know what does.
  16. Keuchel is a great comp. They will be almost the exact age at the point of free agency (BD's 5 days apart). They both won a CY Young at age 27 and have not really come close before of after, although Keuchel has come closer than Porcello. Keuchel had better numbers over his previous 5 seasons: Keuchel/ Porcello ERA+ 132/113 (DET) 157/87 86/142 141/98 109/103 WHIP 1.18/1.23 1.02/1.36 1.29/1.01 1.12/1.40 1.31/1.18 No QO will make the situation much different for Porcello. He'll probably get something like $40M/3, IMO.
  17. I don't see anyway we stay highly competitive for 5+ years, unless Henry goes over the max line several times, even considerably over. I guess it could happen, but I seriously doubt it. Within today's system, it is hard to rebuild your farm by finishing 81-81 3 years in a row, even if you stay under the first tax line.
  18. The Twinkies even turned a triple play!
  19. Exactly! I responded that he's also the cheapest starter in the rotation, is under team control for several years and we're heading for a nasty roster/budget crunch at some point.
  20. Nice to see all the Jacks, but Devers' dbl was the nicest hit of the game. ERod da man! Eovaldi even got his feet wet...in doo-doo, but hey, he's back!
  21. I saw the Sox opener there- the year of the closer-by-committee. I actually thought the stadium was okay.
  22. We know why, right? Jacko just said the Twins were their bitches!
  23. Who was the clown who wanted to trade ERod a while back?
  24. The Guardians are hot, but imagine if we were two up in the wild card race and had these numbers. Would we still have so many posters giving up? Top players by PAs this year PA Rank PA Player OPS 2. 405 Ramirez .694 4. 342 Bauers .707 5. 326 Kipnis .668 7. 264 Martin .619 11. 117 C Gonzalez .558 12. 111 Plawecki .622 Kluber & Carrasco on the IL.
