  1. Name one that has not. It's unprovable, but it you think he sets a good example for the young players on his team that see the star of their team act like he does on the field, then we'll have to just agree to disagree. Look, I had issues with Papi not running out grounders, but with his fragile legs, I gave him a pass. Plus, he didn't play dirty. I would not like Machado on our team, even if he hit 50 HRs. I believe he is a cancer. I believe he will decline for the last 5 years of his deal and be a budget burden even in his prime years. I have no issues with anyone who looks beyond the antics and still likes him, but he's not the type of player I'd want on my team.
  2. Even if Dalbec becomes Justin Turner, we'll need more than that to call it even a half decent rebuild.
  3. I'm not expecting Pearce to be FT, but I'm not worried, if he has to face RH'd pitchers more than before. He's actually done better than Moreland in those splits over recent years, and Moreland has battled injuries over the last 2 years. Pearce seems to be one of those players that bloomed late. His 33-35 year 3-year sample size is his best consecutive 3 year stretch of his career. Could it all end suddenly? Of course, but I'm hoping he can give us another year some where around his 2016-2018 numbers. Eovaldi is certainly a question mark, but yes, he is in prime not past it. He also doesn't have a lot of inning on his arm, and he seems to be throwing harder than ever. Plus, he developed a new pitch last year that was very effective. There is reason for health concerns, but there really is no reason to think he cannot have a very good or even great season in 2019. I'm not sure why Paxton gets all the love, when his health history isn't any better.
  4. Our farm is not "rebuilt." It is a shambles with some glimmering hopes here and there. I still am thrilled DD is our GM.
  5. I'm just expecting something similar to Pearce's last 4 years combined and not his career norm, despite him being past prime. Eovaldi is a tough projection, because of his injuries that make him appear inconsistent. I am well aware of is history and know he may give us something close to his career norm. The problem is, he rarely has a season like his career norm. He's either hurt, doing much worse or much better than his norm. I think he learned something last year, beyond just a new pitch, but certainly many a player who has done great in a short series (or Super Bowl game) has gone on to never come near that again. There is surely a significant chance Eovaldi lets me down, but I feel the chances are he does better than he did last regular season but not as great as the playoffs. Instead of 3.81 /1.126 over 111 IP, maybe he gives us close to that but over 180 IP.
  6. Maybe we should trade JD and make Chavis our FT DH.
  7. I never said "clubhouse." His non hussle and A-hole antics on the field are cancerous and lead the young players on his team down the wrong path. I wouldn't want him on the Sox for $8M a year x 10 years. So, of course having the Yanks getting him at $300+M/10 would make me happy.
  8. Who, me? Pearce's sample size used was 4 years and 900+ PAs. Yes, the Eovaldi sample size was small, and I qualified my enthusiasm with the disclaimer that both could disappoint.
  9. The year before he signed with the Yanks, he hit .781, and that was his 2nd best OPS of his career. I know his game was more about things not related to OPS, but when .781 is your second best OPS ever, you can never be worth what the Yanks gave him. He has had 6 seasons with 502 or more PAs, and these are his OPS in those seasons: .928 (Talk about outlier) .781 .770 .747 .729 .703 (His 501 PA season, he hit .663.) He's a career .760 OPS guy with speed and plus D that would have been better had he not had a noodle for an arm. His 162 game career line is .284 14 67 (45 SB/9 CS- not a super SB%). In his 11 years in MLB, he has averages less than 500 PAs in 110 games per season.
  10. I know the history. I understand both could not repeat, but Pearce has gone 3-4 years of pretty good hitting (12th out of 40 1Bmen with 900+ PAs since 2016). Eovaldi's history is severely hampered by injuries. To me, it's almost all about his health.I've been wrong before, but what he did for us in the playoffs transcends data and history.
  11. No arguments, here. I thought you were talking about adding someone who would add to the budget. I'm not sure we need to do much better than Centeno, Lin, Chavis, Travis, Renda, G Hernandez and even Brentz. They all look like typical AAAA players. Who is out there, right now, wnho is a significant upgrade over these guys and won't cost us a bump is budget costs?
  12. I'm not saying I am happy with our extended depth at 2B and OF, but I don't see it as a priority right now. We can always pick up someone like Kinsler mid season, if needed. "Finding out" about the health of Pedey and Nunez is nearly impossible. We'll know it when we see it. If both are hobbled, then yes, we need to add depth, but ST'ing should help us know more. We also have to know that at any moment, one or both could go down. I'm fine with Holt and Lin filling in until we trade for more depth. If we keep Swihart around, somehow, we'll have some more depth. Chavis offers some 3B/1B depth, but his defense is suspect. I think we built a pretty solid team with good depth and flexibility on the 25 man roster. Our AAA depth is not good, and we all know why, but it is what it is. I think DD is being smart by holding back on signing anyone and keeping enough budget space to make deals once we determine where the need is greatest.
  13. You're assuming Pedey starts. The fact is, our budget blew others away last year and will be ahead of everyone else this year, though not by as much. Plus, our rotation is full or FA signees or trade acquisitions. If we keep this up, we will hear the talk, whether we think it's justified or not.
  14. I'm worried we have or will become the target of those same complaints from non Sox fans.
  15. On the surface, it does look pretty blase. Replacing Pom with a full season from Eovaldi should be a big plus. Replacing 2 months of HRam with 6 months of Pearce should give us a bump. Replacing Kinsler with Pedey is the big wild card. Better health could give us another boost, but it's not like we had more than our fair share last year.
  16. The large age differential makes the comp irrelevant.
  17. For me, it’s 1) Does Boston get another reliever? Mid season- very likely. 2) Do the Sox replace the lost 2b depth... No, Pedey, Nunez & Holt are enough, and Lin provides emergency depth. ...and try to fill Cora’s desire for a defensive 3b? It's a need, but I think we just grit our teeth and hope Devers keeps improving on D. 3) Do the Sox try to expand outfield depth or SS depth? Admittedly, there isn’t much left for SS. Maybe mid season, if needed, but I think our precious budget money will all go to the pen.
  18. Didn't they just sign McCutchen? If so, isn't there a time frame where he can't be traded?
  19. If the cost in contract is overwhelming, then I'm all for it. The more the better.
  20. Yes, either no Eovaldi or we go over the max line for one year (more). I think the Sox were very impressed with Eovaldi last year. His heart and soul rubbed off on the rest of the team. I can't imagine Cora & DD not doing everything possible to bring back Eovaldi. Maybe, if we had CK and Eovaldi, we'd have not signed Pearce and trade someone else to stay under, but it's hard to see us trading JBJ or Vaz and Nunez to get under the max line. I'm kinda glad he refused the QO, but a one year deal for someone like CK is not a bad thing.
  21. Let's avoid spending pages and pages on Brentz.
  22. Seems like the Phillies will get him. The Padres are looking at Keuchel. Who is left for Kimbrel?
  23. Think of it this way: if the Yanks are better on paper than us, and we still beat them, the Yanks have to be "chokers", right?
  24. He's a cancer. His contract will weigh them down for many years. (I plan on being alive and a Sox fan for the remainder of Machado's deal.) When we beat the Yanks again, it would have been even sweeter.
  25. I'm glad we didn't get him, and I hoped the Yankees did.
