I'm not implying Johnson is any kind of "answer" to our issues, but he'll probably be better than Brewer, Thornburg and Weber. My guess is we trade for some pitching at the deadline, and one or two of these guys end up off the 25 man roster - one way or another.

Roster moves to ponder.... Leon returns: O Hernandez goes down. Price returns: Josh A Smith goes down DFA Thornburg: Call up Pedey or Holt Eovaldi returns: DFA Brewer The toughest call is when the last one healthy out of Pedey & Holt are healthy. We'll need to choose from these options (assuming everyone is healthy): 1) Create a phantom IL stint to prolong the choice (Pearce, Nunez, JBJ). 2) Trade or DFA Nunez or Pearce. When Johnson is healthy, we may have to demote Weber or ______?

I'd rather have a guy who gets 2 hits and 2 walks every 10 PAs (.250 BA) than someone who gets 3 hits and no walks every 10 PAs (.300 BA), unless he hits for much more power, but then again, BA does not "capture" HRs and XBHs either.

Do you really expect Vaz to continue hitting .880+? Do you really want to play JD in the OF more? Do you really want to add a catcher, when we already are facing a roster crunch when Holt and Pedey return? (I'm fine with DFA'ing Nunez, if Pedey proves his health, but to keep Holt, Pedey and Chavis around, we'd have to DFA or trade Pearce to make room for a 3rd catcher.) I seriously doubt we dump Pearce and bench JBJ, so Vaz can DH more. If we want to DH Vaz, we can do it without a 3rd catcher. The only risk is losing the DH, if Leon gets hurt or PH for.

OPS is flawed, but to me, OPS tells me way more than BA. The biggest flaw of OPS is that OBP should be weighted more highly than SLG. Although SLG% is flawed as well, it does help distinguish between a .300 hitter with 15 XBHs and a .300 hitter with 65 XBHs. One is clearly much better than the other, and BA, flawed as well, doesn't tell you about. BA also counts walks as zero. That's a major flaw. Since OPS actually counts BA twice, I'd think you like it.

My pleasure. It's no secret that CF, 2B and 1B are our low points at this snapshot of the season. RF & DH seem lower than I expected, but it's nice to see 3B in the top 5 and not the bottom 5. Our pitching staff is blowing the competition away the last 30 days. Our defense looks worse than last year, despite Devers looking improved.

No Sale in those three days, right? We shouldn't miss Sandy that much. I'm looking for JBJ to wake up the echoes this series.

Nor should it knock him out of the line-up by even 1 day other than his normal days of rest, at least until he is slumping. There's room for Pedey and Chavis to play as much as they deserve. -
Usually they are, actually, almost always they are, but Matt Holliday was not a plus defender nor at about 0.0 for his career.

I always felt Nomar made himself look a lot better than he really was by making those spinning twirling plays from the hole, when others simply planted and threw the guy out easily like it was routine.

I'm not even sure Pedey could play 6 days a week as a DH. I think the best we can probably expect, assuming 7 games in 7 days, is for him to play 2-3 games at 2B and 2-3 at DH for 5 games a week. Tops. If this ever does happen, and I'll believe it when I see it, it shouldn't cut back on anyone's playing time, except JBJ (when JD plays OF to make room for Pedey at DH) and maybe Moreland/Pearce (when Chavis plays 1B when Pedey plays 2B). It may not ever really come down to Pedey vs Chavis. It may be Pedey vs JBJ, Pearce & Moreland. Devers, our OF'ers and 1Bmen will all get their normal days off, which is a lot under Cora, so we're not talking about anyone seeing their playing time cut way back, except Nunez/Holt. -
Some players make easy plays look hard (Jeter), while some make hard plays look easy (JBJ)

I think you may be right, unless we trade Dalbec. With Moreland and Pearce likely not returning, we may want to keep all corner IF'ers in the system, until we find the right guy. Probably Devers, Chavis and Dalbec would be enough for the short term, but if JD bolts, we may want to keep Ockimey, too, as a DH possibility down the road (him & Chavis).
