  1. Game is not over, but this is an ugly pattern we've fallen into and can't seem to get out of.
  2. Big time game for Barnes. GET IT DONE!!!!
  3. Currently, the Rangers hold the 5 slot with a .531 winning rate. That equates to 86 wins. 86 wins! And, nobody expects them to be in the playoffs. At our current rate, we are projected to win 84 games, Cleveland 82 and Oakland 81. I like our chances. We might just need to win 86-90 wins to make the playoffs. My guess is 89-90 makes it. At 89, we'd need to go 55-41 (57%).
  4. Yes, I do. You are totally basing your opinion on what you have seen so far this year. Look at the history of MLB. Teams often have better (or worse) second halves. We have a very good team, on paper, and I expect us to start playing like it very soon.
  5. Before the Yankee sweep in August, we heard this same thing all along. Once we make the playoffs, I will like our chances.
  6. This world is going to Hell in a handbasket.
  7. Lucky just one shot. Lucky not a head shot. It was definitely not a robbery. Nobody goes into a super crowded place, walk up to a sitting person and just shoot him in the back and run away. It was a hit- either by some sort of twisted fame seeker or someone holding a serious grudge.
  8. Exactly, and I'm sure this has been a big focus of his development over the years. I doubt a ML coach or player is going to change him. He is what he is. Maybe he can improve the K rate a little and improve his BB% , BA or power, but he can't continue like he has over his last 47 PAs 22 Ks in 45 ABs 2 BBs .146 BA .191 OBP .222 SLG .414 OPS Last 69 PAs: 31 Ks/ 4 BB (including 1 IBB) .188/.246/.234/.481 47 and 69 PA sample sizes are not all that big, but how much longer do we stick with this? Another 47? Another 69? With Holt, Nunez & Hernandez doing pretty well, of late, I'm not sure we go that long. I'm hopeful he turns it around, soon, and he has gone 3 of his last 11 with a 2B and a BB, so maybe he's begun the adjustment, however he has 6 Ks in his last 12 PAs.
  9. As great as we started last year, especially in April when the Rays sucked, here were are records against top teams on July 31st: (We did not play CLE before July 31st and went 3-3 vs them afterwards) 9-4 vs TBR 4-3 vs MN 2-2 vs HOU 4-5 vs NYY 2-4 vs OAK 21-18 vs all (12-14 vs all minus TBR, who sucked first half)
  10. I heard the same thing last year, until the playoffs started. In 2018, we were... 3-4 vs HOU 11-8 vs TBR 10-9 vs NYY (but it took a late season sweep to get plus) 4-3 vs MN 2-4 vs OAK 3-4 vs CLE 33-32 All In 2019, we are 12-18 vs NYY, TBR, HOU, CLE & OAK. We have not played MN We're talking a 3 game swing (making us 15-15), and we'd have the same winning % as last year.
  11. Johnson was our 6th starter, and he's been on the IL, too. The fill-in have sucked: GS Pitcher ERA as a starter 7 Velazquez 6.41 3 R Weber 7.94 2 J Smith 9.82 This has hurt, too: 13 Porcello 4.86 13 E Rod 5.00 4 Eovaldi 6.00
  12. Well said. My guess is he has been working with numerous people as he rose up the farm chain, and this has always been his big issue. I'm not sure it is an issue that can be solved, but it will be very hard for him to make it without improving on these numbers. Many guys K too much, but they also walk a lot or bash more HRs than Chavis.
  13. Yes, and the problem with trading JBJ or Porcello is that it would open a hole with nobody in the system ready to fill adequately. Trading those two would be part of a fire sale rebuild phase not as a win now phase. Same with Beni. I think we end up trading Dalbec or Shawaryn or both (or the like) for a solid pen arm with a high salary... maybe a SP'er with the idea of making Eovaldi the closer for the rest of this year- assuming he ever returns.
  14. We may see mid or early July, but I doubt we do anything in June, unless something falls in our laps. I'm wondering, if there is a deal out there where we can trade a decent prospect plus a salary dump like Nunez or Pearce for an equal salary piece at a position of need that is better than Nunez. I guess it depends on how good the prospect is and how much the GM values him. This would allow us to still have budget space for another move that involves a salary dump by another team. These are usually the deals where you don't have to give up a good prospect.
  15. He'll be on the IL this year. Book it.
  16. The guys we have brought in or up to replace injured or non performing players have done a very good job over the past few weeks. Holt .921 in last 4 weeks/ .983 last 2 weeks Nunez .708 last 2 weeks Hernandez 4 for 9 Leon .790 last 2 weeks Chavis has done well, but not so great lately. The guy most people have been saying needs to be traded or benched, JBJ, is hitting .928 over the last 4 weeks. and 1.001 the last 2 weeks.
  17. We out scored the Astros in our series loss to them. Yes, bunching runs when we don't need them has been an issue, but it's not like we can trade for a player known to not "bunch runs." 3 runs scored a game vs the top 3 is not good, I agree, but no trade is going to improve our odds of scoring more against them without opening a new hole somewhere else. Should we have traded for Bruce and benched our hottest hitter (JBJ) or Beni? Let's talk specifics: who should we trade for who?
  18. Although Eovaldi just suffered a setback, I think we can count on him being back in time to be a big help. A few from Moreland, Pearce, Lin, Johnson & Wright should give us a boost. We will make a deal or two, but I'm not sure what's out there now. DD should not "panic," and I'm sure he's on the phone a lot. I do not think we need to deal this week. If we pick up a 1Bman or 2Bman, we'll have to cut a big priced player or demote Chavis, when the others get healthy. Wrigh and Johnson are out of options, but we can trade one. The only roster space we have open is with the pitching staff, and they've been doing okay.
  19. Had we not signed Pearce, we could have signed Kimbrel and stayed under the max line. I would not have gone over the line for him, even at 3 years- $30M.
  20. IMO, Kimbrel is on the decline. 3 years is not bad, and the amount is not bad, assuming Kimbrel pitches like 2017, and maybe even 2018 sans the playoffs. The Cubs are in a budget pinch, too, so I see this as spending too much, and his contract will prevent other signings. Just my opinion.
  21. If we can't beat out Texas and Oakland, then we don't deserve a place at the table, and this team is not what I thought they were. We have some budget space to make a move or two (RP? RP? SP?). It was a sad weekend, but there's a lot of games left to be played, and we're right in the thick of the playoff hunt despite playing so badly, so far.
  22. No way was it robbery. The place was packed. The guy walks up from behind, raises the gun and just shoots him in the back and runs away. It was probably a hit to get famous.
  23. The video shows he's siting at a bar or something- very crowded. The guy comes up behind him and just shoots him in the back. People all around him. https://www.barstoolsports.com/video/1335456/the-surveillance-video-of-david-ortiz-being-shot-makes-me-think-it-was-an-attempted-assassination-sensitive-content-obviously
