  1. If he hits 30+ with 100+ RBIs, I'd be ok with .310-.320 OB%, but if he is batting 3rd, we'd need better. That's one reason I prefer Bogey & Pearce 3rd and Devers 5th/6th.
  2. If someone picks him up, we lose him. If nobody picks him up, we do not have to keep him on our 40 man roster. Am I missing something?
  3. I'm thinking .270 32 105 is about right. He could do .250 25 80 or .290 40 115 easily.
  4. I'm not sure there's a difference.
  5. I don't think Devers is affected by pressure.
  6. If one team is to win 3 of 4, which team would you choose?
  7. Red Sox Place Sandy Leon On Waivers By Mark Polishuk | March 24, 2019 at 5:12pm CDT The Red Sox have placed catcher Sandy Leon on waivers, as per WEEI.com’s Evan Drellich (Twitter link).
  8. I think they'd have DFA'd HRam, even if Swihart was not on the roster. I think they waited to give HRam a chance to avoid a grievance.
  9. Could be that Cora likes him but likes Leon more.
  10. Red Sox Place Sandy Leon On Waivers By Mark Polishuk | March 24, 2019 at 5:12pm CDT The Red Sox have placed catcher Sandy Leon on waivers, as per WEEI.com’s Evan Drellich (Twitter link).
  11. They DFA'd HRam to save money. Keeping Swihart was a bi-product. That being said, it does seem like DD has been unwilling to give up on Swihart.
  12. I'm fully aware of our past woes in Seattle and the left coast, but I think our team will be sharper out of the gate- not quite like last year, but yes 8-3 sounds right, After we sweep the M's, I might go to 9-2.
  13. Well, the stats show the better hitter should bat 5th over 3rd, so I'm okay with this, but vs LHPs, I'd put Pearce up 3rd and Devers 6th behind Bogey.
  14. Career: .787 first batter in game .855 leading off an inning Batting Slot (70+ PAs): .912 first (2165 PAs) .862 fourth (243 PAs) .852 eighth (74 PAs) .820 third (228) .790 second (150)
  15. Makes that Sale trade look even better now.
  16. Leon has actually had longer and better stretches with the bat than Vaz or Swihart, and at the ML level not AA. I'm not saying Leon is a better hitter or will be going forward, but he has shown he can be streaky- both good and bad. He was horrible last year and not very good in 2017 either, but he can hit at times.
  17. Sale is happy to be in Boston... Chris Sale officially signs five-year contract WWW.MLB.COM FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The first standing ovation Chris Sale received in 2019 was not from a packed house at Fenway Park. Instead, it came from a clubhouse full of appreciative teammates who were thrilled that their ace had just formalized a five-year, $145 million extension that should keep him
  18. I think Beni is about to bust out. He gets on base a lot, so Betts should get more rbi chances. I trust the studies that show best hitter up 2nd in the way to go. I'm more concerned about batting JD 4th not 3rd. I'd bat Bogey 3rd vs RHPs and Pearce 3rd vs LHPs.
  19. I'm glad we get the west coast road trip done early. I think we'll go 8-3 or 7-4.
  20. Good to see the team rounding into shape as ST'ing nears its end. Our rotation is looking strong. Even Johnson looked good today. Our pen is still shaky, but we'll have some budget space to fix it, if needed.
  21. True, but I was working on the assumption we reset in 2020 and teams like the Yanks and Dodgers are a few year away from the same position we will be in next winter. (The Astros have already begun to lose key players, and they were thought to be set for years, in terms of having stocked up young players and plenty of budget space.) Surely, anything can happen.
  22. I'm not sure if and when we reset. My point on that post was based on the condition we reset after 2019. Of course, if we don't reset, then we can and should remain highly competitive for a while.
  23. I'm assuming a reset, so there's only so much Henry and DD can do, under that circumstance. I think you are underestimating how important Bogey & Porcello are to our chances of winning. Moreland, Pearce, Holt & Nunez cannot be easily replaced with just about no spending money. Maybe Chavis & Dalbec can do well, but one from Chatham or Lin will be replacing Bogey, so expecting something useful from those two replacing 3 infielders is a big stretch. We've also already lost Kimbrel & Kelly. Would we have won last year without Porcello, Bogey, Kimbrel, Kelly, Moreland, Pearce, Holt, Nunez, Leon, Pom & Thornburg? I think we'd have a slight chance that year, which is better than the cliff I had been projecting. Remember, other teams will be getting better, while we lose key players.
  24. soxprospects projects Brewer, Velazquez & Thornburg for the last 3 pen slots and Johnson as our 6th starter.
  25. Extending Betts & JD and letting Porcello, Porcello, Moreland, Pearce, Nunez, Holt & Thornburg go and resetting would mean we have just about no money for all the other roster spots. 2020 Roster C- Vaz (if we can afford him or trade him) & Swihart 1B- Chavis 2B- Pedey 3B- Devers & Dalebec SS- Chatham & Lin LF- Beni & GHernandez CF- JBJ (may lose him for 2021) RF- Betts DK- Martinez SP1 Sale SP2 Price SP3 Eovaldi SP4 ERod SP5 Johnson/DHernandez/Velazquez RP1 Barnes RP2 Brasier RP3 Hembree RP4 Workman RP5 Lakins RP6 Feltman RP7 Poyner/Wright/Walden/Shawaryn It's not a bad team. It is not a "cliff", but it is not a highly competitive team without Bogey, Porcello and all the role players like Moreland, Pearce, Holt and Nunez.
