  1. Apparently, the Seattle pay down makes the salary hit just $3.4M for the Yanks.
  2. Lets see if the return is as big as harmony hoped it would be, and if the Sox has enough to match it.
  3. Living here in Houston, I'm wondering if they might have a big deal in mind to make one final push while GS is down. Word is, they may trade Capella.
  4. Our pen has helped us win more games than they have helped us lose. I'd say our biggest problems have been: 1) Lack of timely hitting 2) Defense 3) SP (first 3 weeks only) 4) Second base (before Chavis & Holt's return) 5) CF (before May 20) Biggest pluses: 1) Bogey 2) Price 3) Devers 4) JD 5) Sale (after first few starts) 6) Betts 7) Pen (especially Workman/Walden/Hembree)
  5. Cut the 2019 season,so far, in half.... Red Sox OPS Numbers: First 36 games: 1.106 Chavis .881 Betts .865 JD .831 Beni .829 Moreland .815 Vaz .810 Bogey .781 Devers .464 Nunez .419 JBJ .316 Pearce Second 36 games (not counting today): 1.058 JD 1.003 Bogey .944 JBJ .922 Moreland .918 Devers .799 Vaz .794 Betts .734 Beni .712 Leon .696 Chavis .560 Nunez Holt did not have 50+ PAs in either sample size.
  6. They were bound to struggle at some point. I'm still thinking we can win the division, but it won't be easy.
  7. I've said I'd be fine trading him this winter, as long as we get a solid and needed piece in return. That being said, I'm sure management loves the hot streaks and some of his long warm streaks- not to mention his playoff numbers last year. It will be hard to replace his defense, but I agree that consistency is a virtue. BTW, up to... .685
  8. WOW! No surprise L Ball was booted out of LA, butb those first round picks should all be low ones. That 4th pick could be a doozie, and coupled with Zion & Ingram, could give the Pelicans a very nice young core. Good deal for both sides. If the Warriors lose KD, the west is wide open.
  9. Got to keep pounding these lightweight teams. Nice to see all the multi-hit batters- and on a day Sale pitches!!! The pen seems to be doing better. I'm glad Chavis seems to have adjusted, but it does seem like KC and BAL did not go after him with high heat as much as others did.
  10. Now, 15Ks and 2 BBs after 8.
  11. 12 Ks and 1 BB in 7 IP. Nice job Sale & Walden.
  12. First half MVP, for sure.
  13. Once he gets going, his momentum carries him.
  14. Let's open the floodgates, for once, and give Sale some breathing room!
  15. I'd grab him. Boy, was I wrong about signing him this past winter!
  16. My faith in the NBA is somewhat restored. Nice to see a new face as champs. Congrats to the Rapts. Maybe next year, my Bucks can win it all, but they have budget issues, too.
  17. Here's how selected sample sizes can make someone look bad or good. Player A: .626 in his last 62 PAs, including a 48 PA stretch of .453 hitting .970 prior to May 20th .638 after May 20th .820 for 2019 Player B: .350 in his first 62 PAs (same sample size as player A's most recent sample size) .443 prior to May 20th 1.114 after May 20th .688 for 2019
  18. The luxury tax is not really a salary cap, except to maybe 6-9 teams. Some teams don't mind going over. Most teams do not even think about it, because they are so far from the limit. Probably less than 8 teams do not spend more because of the tax.
  19. I doubt he would have sustained his super high BAbip in single A, as well. Give him time at AA. He almost certainly will not reach teh same numbers as single A, but his speed might help him continue to rise up in the system and prospect rankings. BTW, here are soxprospects.com current rankings (+/- from last ranking): Remember, Chavis is no longer a prospect, so everyone should have gone up 1. 1. Casas +2 2. Dalbec +2 3. Duran +10 4. DHern -2 5. Groome -1 6. Chatham +2 7. Houck-2 8. Flores -1 9. Mata -1 10. Feltman -1 11. Howlett even 12. Decker even 13. Shawaryn +2 14. Scherff +4 15. DDiaz -1 Other notable rises and falls: ?? M Wilson (unranked > 26) ?? K Hart (unranked to 35) +28 Fitzgerald (56>28) +16 TWard (38>22) +15 EBazardo (51>36) +9 Ockimey (27>18) +8 Crawford (29>21) +7 Joan Martinez (36>29) +6 J Taylor (31>25) +4 Lakins -4 DReyes (19>23) -5 Castellanos (22>27) -6 Netzer (24>30) -7 Y Aybar (26>33) -7 Thompson (33>40) -10 J Diaz (32>42) -12 Schellenger (20>32)
  20. On the flip side, I doubt other GMs now love JBJ more after just 3 weeks of hot hitting. To me, the lesson to be learned is that a 7 weeks sample size is not all that big, if just a 3 week hot streak can bring your OPS up from .443 to .688. Players should never be valued at JUST what they have done in the last 4-8 weeks. Some here, seem to place permanent value on just 1-3 weeks, or the .688 number only. Plus, it's not like JBJ was some 35 year old player in a long slump that could possibly signal the steep downswing associated with age. JBJ has slumped many times in the past, and he always snapped out of it, at times with white hot stretches. I'll never understand why some people always get fooled by the same thing over and over. When JBJ slumps again, and he almost certainly will, we'll here the same calls for DFA.
  21. I'm not complaining. I'd offer Porcello a QO, but I hope it doesn't turn him into the next Keuchel. Maybe he'll take the QO our of that fear.
  22. We did spend money and resources on second base, despite still having Pedey's contract on the books: $11M on Nunez $3.6M on Holt Traded Buttrey for Kinsler Brought up Chavis, maybe earlier than planned We did spend money at 1B, too, just not all in one basket: $18.5M on Moreland (2 contracts) $6.25M on Pearce While that only comes to just over $8M a year over the last 3 years, we are spending almost $13M this year.
  23. Tonight on the Farm... AAA Castillo 3-4 (OPS up to .730) Ockimey 1-4 w a 2B GHernandez 1-5 Hart 7 IP 2 ER (5H 0BB 5Ks) Quietly been solid AA Wade 7 IP 1ER 7H 2BB 2K Feltman 2 IP 0ER 0H 2BB 2K A Gm1 Mata 6 IP 0 ER 3H 0BB 5K Acosta 3-3 GM2 Thompson 6 IP 2ER 6H 2BB 2K Fitzgerald 2-1 w 2 RBI & 1 BB
  24. I'm glad we are playing the teams we need to pass. We don't need to win any more than we have been over the last 4-6 weeks to win the WC slot. Yes, winning the division is not going to be easy.
