  1. IMO, he's got a long way to go to pass Vaz as our #1 catcher.
  2. "Cool Stats" from MLB.com... Red Sox: Both Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez hit exactly 26.7 percent of their batted balls last season at least 95 mph (the threshold for hard contact) and in the launch angle “sweet spot” between 8 and 32 degrees. Only the Cardinals’ Matt Carpenter made this type of quality contact at a higher rate. Yankees: Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge have combined to produce each of the 13 hardest-hit home runs since Statcast began tracking in 2015. Stanton set a new Statcast record last Aug. 9 by walloping a homer with an exit velocity of 121.7 mph -- breaking Judge’s mark of 121.1 mph set the previous June.
  3. I explained that I was used to doing team record in starts and kinda went inbetween team record & actual record. I admitted my mistake.
  4. Our best hope seems to be DHernandez.
  5. Pedey & Nunez's improved health could really lengthen our line-up. Having Pearce all year should, too. A consistent JBJ would help. No Leon has to help with line-up balance. We had a pretty balanced attack last year. OPS by... 6. I and others thought my projections were optimistic!
  7. At least Jacko will answer your questions and listen to reason.
  8. Clemens deserved a pounding that night (and much of his life).
  9. It sure should be, especially if Cora uses this as a common strategy all or most of the year.
  10. soxprospects.com projects this opening day roster; Rotation LH Chris Sale RH Nathan Eovaldi RH Rick Porcello LH David Price LH Eduardo Rodriguez LH Brian Johnson Bullpen RH Matt Barnes RH Ryan Brasier RH Heath Hembree RH Brandon Workman RH Tyler Thornburg RH Hector Velazquez RH Colten Brewer Lineup C Christian Vazquez 1B Mitch Moreland 2B Brock Holt 3B Rafael Devers SS Xander Bogaerts LF Andrew Benintendi CF Jackie Bradley RF Mookie Betts DH JD Martinez Bench C Blake Swihart 1B Sam Travis IF Eduardo Nunez IL: Pedey, Pearce & M Hernandez
  11. I always thought lowly of Piazza after that- for not going after Roger. Clemens is such a dick. He clearly yelled to the ump, "I thought it was the ball!" The lamest excuse ever given in the history of mankind.
  12. Exactly, unlike Clemens throwing a broken bat at a player (Piazza), then telling the ump, "I thought it was the ball!". ' What? Did he think he was playing kickball, where you can throw the ball at the runner?
  13. I guess keeping all 3 was worth $2.4M. Catchers always get hurt. I do think we have a nice cushion already for a July trade. $2.4M more might be needed, but I like still having Leon in the system. As much as I have been tough on Swihart, I hope he proves himself and finally shows us that his potential becomes helpful reality. Vaz will likely catch Sale, Price and either Eovaldi or Porcello (or both). My guess is Swihart catches ERod and maybe some or most of the starts by Porcello or Eovaldi. Maybe a 70-30 split.
  14. This is different from what others are saying. If you are right, then I wonder why we decided to pay him $2.4M to play in AAA and be insurance. That $2.4M added to what we have could have made a big difference in July.
  15. It's hopeless trying to debate.
  16. If he was just an average defender, he'd be over 4.
  17. My point was never about "career". It was about a specific 6-7 year stretch. Stop trying to move the goal posts.
  18. He doesn't get hit.
  19. It wasn't less, if you don't count arb years.
  20. You keep talking hindsight. I'll ask again, would you be happy, right now, if the yanks had just signed Sale to the same contract he just signed with the Sox?
  21. Which makes a huge difference. He'll make $40M over the next 2 years (would have been arb years of $17M + $23M). He then makes $33.5M for 2 years before opt out chance. Then, $30.5M and $32.5M after the opt out and counting the option year. That's more than Sale gets,
  22. You never answer my questions.
  23. Yes, and he turns 31 in 3 months.
  24. Makes you think that when they offered him the $2.4M, they either expected him to make the 25 man roster, or they thought $2.4M was worth having at AAA as a catching insurance policy. Or, maybe Swihart's "improvement" surprised management and forced a change of plans. I'm glad we have Leon as insurance, but as much as I like having him on the team, I think that $2.4M could be better used at the deadline on a pro-rated contract. In a sense, $2.4M can get a $7M pro-rated contract on July 31st.
  25. For a catcher over 7 years...certainly better than above average. How about 4.1, 3.8 and 3.5? Those were his best 3 seasons. Is that "a few above average seasons" or a few "great" seasons?
