  1. When you trade near the deadline, you only owe 1/3 of a player's salary. Some team will be looking to dump salary, and if we can keep the money below our max tax line, we'll find an excellent closer or two very good set up men for a decent prospect or two. We got Addison Reed and Eovaldi for peanuts. What can cashews get us?
  2. We're tied for the wild card slot. What's holding you back?
  3. That's part of the question along with others who are doing better (recently) than they were last year, plus we have this guy I never heard of named Marco freakin' Hernandez!
  4. He's past prime next year. $60M/4 might be as high as I'd go.
  5. It's going to be a buyers market for sure as more teams than ever will be out of it and sellers. They will go for dirt cheap. Book it.
  6. Is 2B still an area of need? Even if it is, can we afford to spend limited resources on 2B over the pen and rotation? Here's a look at some recent, small sample sizes of players that can play 2B: 1.077 Brock Holt in his last 12 games (not counting today's 0 PA and 1 BB) .951 Chavis in his last 9 games (not counting today's 2 for 5 game) .750 Marco Hernandez in the 8 games since being called up .654 Nunez in his last 16 games (not good but better than before)
  7. We've bought a little time to give Johnson & Wright a showcasing, but IMO, even if they look good, we should still trade for a solid RP'er- preferably a closer type.
  8. I'm thinking $48M/4 or $$38M/3. If he says no, I give him a QO and either way, I'm okay.
  9. The problem is EE can't play 1B everyday and maybe not even most days, especially if his back continues acting up. We have a DH who should only DH. His name is JD Martinez. While I would have liked to have had EE on our roster, I think we need pitching more than a DH/1Bman.
  10. Even Duran's rise was on the back of a totally unsustainable BAbip. IMO, our farm will still be ranked bottom 3 when the mid season rankings come out and at best bottom 5 next winter.
  11. ...and tell him to stay put, work on his control, and try to get ready for September.
  12. I think these types of games often set the pace to a season's ending. It gives a team the feeling they are never out of it. It gives a team momentum going forward. And of course, it gives us a big WIN to keep pace with the Rays and Yanks. (The Astros lost.)
  13. Down to .683 after 1 for 5 with a 2B.
  14. Marco Freakin' Hernandez
  15. We need someone better than Lakins...and like...YESTERDAY!
  16. Just got caught up... like a punch in the gut!
  17. Yes, and in his last 13.1 IP, he has allows just 8 hits. The 5 BBs is still too high, but with 13 Ks and a WHIP just over 1.0, he's not going backwards.
  18. I have more faith, although not much, in Johnson than Smith.
  19. Our SP'ing has been our weakest area this year, and you want to take our best starter and move him to an area that has been a strength this year. We have no SP'er to take Sale's slot in the rotation. It's not Sale's fault the team won't score enough runs in his starts to help his w-l record. Sale has been one of MLB's best SP'er over the last 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,...years. He's been a top SP'er since his poor start. The only stat that matters to you is the full 2019 season numbers and W-L record? Sale is a SP'er and should remain one. This is "common sense." Now, if you want to make Eovaldi the closer, there is some "sense" to that idea.
  20. I loved the Porcello-Cespedes trade and fully supported the extension contract, but that was based on Porcello's age at the time, and the idea that all his years of team control would be in prime. His next deal is not the same. I'm all for bringing him back, but it depends on the cost and length of the deal. My guess is, we offer him a QO, and either way, we'll be okay.
  21. Back injuries are hard to evaluate. I think the price went down due to injury concerns.
  22. Let's see if our ranking rises as much as your view.
  23. We've had a few players struggling since 5/20. I'm hopeful we've turned things around for the good and for good.
  24. Leading AL WAR since May 20th: 1.7 Trout 1.4 Kepler 1.3 Bogey 1.3 JBJ 1.2 Lindor 1.1 C Santana 1.1 Bregman 1.0 Devers 1.8 LLynn 1.8 Giolito 1.3 Morton 1.3 Odorizzi 1.2 Sale 1.2 Verlander 0.9 Boyd & Minor 0.8 Price & Chirinos 0.7 Porcello 3 of top 8 on offense. 3 of top 11pitchers
  25. I'm not sure EE could play 1B everyday, so it would have force JD to the OF and JBJ to the bench.
