    I bring it up less than you bring up the pen being the "garbage can imitators" when they've done better than the starters, so far this year. They've been more responsible for wins game by game and less responsible for losses game by game. Just like tonight. I'm glad our starters had a nice 1 month run this year. Yes, I said it again.

    We needed this win. It got a little bumpy when Porcello tried to "blow his own save"- I wish they could give a BS to a starter. The pen put us on the edge of our seats, but pulled it out. Here's good example of how the pen did much better than the starter, shut the Tigers down, but they get no save- just 3 holds. Nice to see so many runs scored without Bogey and JD in the line-up. Our offense is in high gear.

    Then, why not use the full season, which is 50% larger than your sample size? Oh yeah, because it equals the "rest period" nonsense. It's cleat you won't let go. (It's not in my head. You implied our starters don't have to do better, basically because you are confident they will do better.)

    No, but stop implying someone saying our starters need to do better to means they don't think they will do better. Our big 3 (or 4) starters have struggled for 4 weeks and need to improve for us to win. May first is your cling to number, and nothing else matters. For some weird reason May 1st to June 1st matters more than June 1st to July 1st.

    I think you will be surprised how little some very good pitchers get in return via summer trades. We'll see. So far, this year (and last summer, too) the returns on trade have been very low.

    I've seen both play once in Portland. I will say, Dalbec is twice the defender Chavis is at 3B, and I'm not the only one who thinks that. BTW, I did mention Chavis at 2B and Dalbec at 1B next year.

    Of course beating the best teams is better. It gives them a loss and amounts to a 2 game swing per game. My point was that, if they are 13-3 vs two key opponents, then their record vs other teams must be worse, and it is. It wasn't meant to be a statement on importance.

    Not really, Moreland, Pearce, Nunez and Holt are all free agents after 2019. We'll need to fill 2B (Chavis & Marco/Chatham) and 1B (Dalbec & Chavis) I'm fine with trading Dalbec, if we can get a much better player than by trading someone like Shawaryn, but I don't think it's a clear move. I'm not sure we want a line-up with 2 high K guys like Chavis & Dalbec, but our budget will be tight again next year, and 1B/2B is a big area where we can cut major expenses and maybe not lose any ground.

    Betts would make 6 in the top 14! I assume you are talking mostly about our pitchers.

    Devers is ahead of JD in hitting, but your point is well-taken. I don't get the rational. We just had several days off (yes with travel), and the AS break is coming soon. BTW, Vaz ranks 13th in the AL in wRC+ since May 1st. JBJ is 12th. I'm counting on ... Marco Freakin' Hernandez!
