    I hope we keep Cora and Devers. Others should not be traded while their stock is low. Others I want to keep, but the years of team control may not overlap the length of the rebuild, of if it's just by one year, a deal may be worth exploring.

    MLBTRs reports the Sox will be over the max line, this year. I don't see it. For one, the team exceeded the upper level of the luxury tax ($237MM) in 2018, and are again in position to exceed the new upper threshold of $246MM this season. As per Roster Resource, the Red Sox have a projected luxury tax number of over $257.7MM, putting them in line to face another maximum penalty — a 75 percent tax on the overage, as well as a drop of ten spots for their highest pick of the 2020 draft.

    I was one of the first, here, to call for replacing DD. He's just not the GM you want for a rebuild. I didn't know about the trouble between him and ownership, and that may be the major reason for his firing, but I hope we pick someone with a good history of building a farm and developing top young pitchers. Ben got a lot more leeway, but he had a strong farm, and I don't think they held the Tito firing and Bobby V hiring over his head. Apparently, that was on Larry. I can see how people can be shocked how a guy can bring a team to 3 straight division wins for the first time ending with a ring just 10 short months ago, but I'm not shocked at all. It's a great business decision, and that's what makes Henry the best owner we've ever had.

    Marco's arb will be small, so I think we keep him. Plus, we need a 2Bman and back up 3B/SS with Holt likely gone. If we non tender Leon or Centeno, we may still bring them back at a lower cost. I didn't mention the JBJ non tender, trade or arb choice, because it's a given and the center of debate for this thread. Betts, ERod, Barnes, Workman, Beni, Marco and Weber will likely eat up almost all of the $56M left under the first tax line. There may be $2-6M left over, unless there's a trade or some of the guys I just listed are not tendered.

    I disagree. Contrary to the mush stated nonsense, everyone did not have "career years" in 2013. When we signed Vic, almost everyone said 3 years was too long. We knew 2013 was it. When we signed Napoli, we reworked the deal due to his health issue and got him for one year. 2013. (Yes, we signed him again, but 2013 was not all luck. To me, 2014 and 2015 were more bad luck than 2013 was good, plus2012 was on Bobby V.

    It kinda sucked in 2012, 2014 and 2015, but there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Plus, going into each of those years, I thought we had a chance to make the playoffs. Depending on how much of an overhaul (if any) we have in 2020. I'll enjoy watching the games and players as long as I think we have hope for the future. (We may make the playoffs next year, especially since we'll "have something to prove.")

    Okay, I guess it's just my opinion. Sucking is one thing. Sucking and having multiple years left at mega bucks is another... and worse!

    Agreed. His IFA plan was to have no plan. The one that died was supposed to be real good, though. That used to be our strength. To me, DD is gone more for the farm than for missing the playoffs one time. (That or the being an A-hole part that is being reported now.)

    If we trade Betts, we might as well trade everyone you mentioned. I'm not against that plan, especially, if we try to sign Betts after 2021. Talk to him. Do him a "favor" by trading him on the second day of the season to knock off the QO and penalty attached. Maybe, he'll remember the favor and return.

    You know, after we traded away our whole rotation, I used the words "halfway" in my opinion. They traded Lester, Lackey, Doubront, Peavy & Miller not really for prospects, but for ML players or near ML ready players. I thought they should have gone for top prospects. We won in 2013. There are more ways to win that just the "Yankee Model," and besides, the Yanks have not won jack since their big fire sale.

    The ones that bug me are the HRs where the batter hits it and looks disgusted that he "got under it," and yet it goes out. One handed HRs. Broken bat HRs. On one knee HRs.

    I'd love that and wanted that with Lester and Andrew Miller, but it may be a long shot. If we do trade Betts with the idea of spending big in 2021 and getting competitive again really quick, then we might as well trade a bunch of other players, too. Even ones we may re-sign in 2021 or 2022.

    If we reset, and more and more people are starting to think 2020 will be the year, then we need to decide between 2 choices: 1) Extend or sign Betts as part of the long term rebuild. 2) Trade this winter for young and near MLB talent as part of a 2-3 year rebuild plan. If the answer is #2, then others should be dealt, too. Everyone not under team control of in our long term plans beyond 2021 or 2022. (Basically, only Devers, Bogey and Beni would be lock keepers, not counting kids like DHern.)

    Several of us batted both eyes when the farm was emptied. I was fine with the idea as long as we won a ring, and we did. However, I knew this day was coming.
