  1. Good point. While I try not to get into the blame game on who in management made which calls, I think it was pretty well known BV was not Ben's guy.
  2. Sounds like they must view BC's time in Boston positively. I'm think Ben will do fine in Pittsburgh. I'm glad he'll be in the NL and wish him the best. He made some big mistakes here, but I hold no grudges against him. A ring and a great farm and core left for the next guy.
  3. I get why Mookie would like it, but if he wants $300M/10 or even $320M/10, and I was prepared to give $240M/6, I'd do it.
  4. The Yanks reset and went back to spending pretty large.
  5. Fair enough. I don't usually like deals longer than 5 years, but I think Betts may earn the $300M in his next 6 years.
  6. Hard to say. I want Betts long term, but trading him and then re-signing him seems like the way to get the most. We may end up bringing Leon back after non tendering him. I think Hembree is cut loose, too.
  7. So, is giving him $40M x 6 better than $30M x 10? The difference is $60M/4. Are you saying you wouldn't want Betts at $15M a year for 4 years from ages 33-36? (Looking at inflation and rising player costs, my guess is the $300M/10 will turn out better.
  8. Yess, but leaving out Boggs, leaves out one of the best examples of a Sox player who put up great numbers for 10 years after age 26. I think that was the point. Using Nomar and Rice, two guys that faded quickly as they aged is just one side of the debate. (Although Rice had a great OPS after 26, he did not play as long as the others and faded quickly towards the end.)
  9. I understand, but I think we can reset without moving Bogey. It would mean not paying arb prices for JBJ, Leon and Hembree. We could try to trade Price or Eovalid just to save some of their remaining contracts, but it sucks paying players to play elsewhere. I'd rather trade Betts, reset and try to re-sign him than trade Bogey, even though I value Betts more.
  10. I'd hope they think Bogey's deal is a good one and keep him, but he certainly would be easier to trade than Price, Sale or Eovaldi.
  11. Thanks. Fixed it.
  12. Sox Free Agents... After 2020: Betts JBJ Workman Leon Maybe JD After 2021: ERod Pedey Barnes Hembree Vaz (2022 team option) After 2022: Price JD (if no opt out after 2020) Eovaldi Beni Osich Marco Vaz After 2023: Devers Brasier Johnson Velazquez
  13. Spoken like a true expert with no use of deceptive and black magical sabermetrics, too.
  14. If he gets a GM job, 700 will just have to spill the beans.
  15. I'd hate to lose any of these guys, but many if they are not under team control for more than 2 years, I'd listen to any offer.
  16. The worst is #2, but that's what seems to happen, too often. If he's going to need it at some point, IMO, the best time is the day after he finds out from Andrews.
  17. Yes, move on before you even give your opinion on where you think Jeter ranks, fine. Okay, he's not the best (#1) or the worst (#30). Your position is he's between #2 and #29. That's a pretty easy position to defend. Here's trophy for your bold position.
  18. That "time" was right after the period where I claimed Jeter was not horrible. The 10-11 year span I made my claim about began in 2004. You think this supports your argument? You still cling to this? This isn't about bowing to what is right, it's about coming clean when you know you used faulty evidence. It's okay to admit you were wrong. I've been wrong and have admitted it many times. I admit I may be wrong about Jete being the worst. Maybe HRam or Betancourt were, and Jete was just 3rd worst. I do still feel content in my opinion that he is much closer to the worst than even average, let alone GG caliber.
  19. You don't make any point. You just say others are wrong. You don't answer simple questions, which debaters do. (They also have to take a position and defend their side- not just bash the other side.) You use outdated references for you "evidence." You claim Gammons is a saber guy and should be disqualified as evidence, then when outted, use a quote the guy you bashed by using something he said in 2001 to try and support your bashing. You then make claims about people not using logic. Why not answer the questions?
  20. No, but sometimes pitchers make comebacks in unlikely places. He'd certainly be a gamble, but he's one of the cheapest of those who have a chance of doing well. I'd probably rather have Miley, but he costs a little more.
  21. LOL, now I know you're a clown.
  22. No, but they rotate the people, and the people are trained and calibrated. They watch the game looking at just defense. I trust them over me not even watching the game. Of course, there are flaws, but it better than the flaw of me not even seeing who I'm rating or ranking.
  23. That very well could happen, but it happened to Wade Miley, too.
  24. How about combining the two? Jeter's defense sucks on both accounts. Plus, UZR is done bye the "eye test" by people who are trained and calibrated. We can all agree it is still flawed, but they, combined, watch every play of every game, something our eye test can never match.
  25. LOL. Too funny to even respond to this.
