Wrong. Plus, a strong farm helps keep a winning team on the field and revenues pouring in.

There's not much gray area. Either we try to reset, or we don't. If we do, we have some major work to do. I don't see the purpose of cutting salary and not resetting.

Well, Price is no "fan favorite," and I doubt anyone gets upset, if we trade Eovaldi. I have been JBJ's biggest fan and supporter over the years, but I think it makes sense to trade him, assuming the budget mandate is for real. I don't want to trade Betts or JD, but we may very well lose them after 2020 and have nothing to show for it. I think the odds of us winning in 2020 are low enough to warrant looking into dealing Betts and or JD, but not for "pennies on the dollar." In theory, trading Price, Eovaldi and JBJ (even assuming we pay a lot towards their salaries or take back lower salaries) would free up enough money to sign a few under-the-radar FAs and be better positioned to outbid everyone for Betts in 2021. Price & JBJ for Myers & Margot. Eovaldi of Odor. The FA list is getting smaller.

I don't know all the facts, but I think he'll get paid. It will be up to the Yanks to prove what he had done went against their treatment plans. Would he need permission to get a massage? To take an Aspirin? To get in a heated whirlpool?

Beni, maybe- Chavis would be shocking. For us to seriously compete, a more likely route would be for Betts & JD to repeat 2018 not 2019, and for our starters to be healthy. That may seem like a lot, but it's not as long a shot as Chavis even finishing top 10 or 20 in the MVP vote. I've not given up on 2020, and even if I do, I've been surprised before. I didn't think we'd win in 2013. What makes 2020 difficult is the budget needs and the near certain fact that some big named player(s) won't be here in 2020. I won't blame Bloom for dealing away someone, since he's being pushed to do so. I trust he will get the best deal he can, even if we don't like it.

I think you're wrong. I guess Ellsbury and his legal team are not that dumb. If the treatment he got did not interfere with the treatment he was getting through consent, I can't see how the Yanks win.

We needed pitching more than 2B, so I can see why we spent more there.

I felt the same way about Chris Young, Moreland, Pearce and other low level FAs we've signed in the past. It's one thing to take a chance on an unsung FA, but paying significantly more than anybody expected is questionable, at best.

It will be hard to prove the unsanctioned treatment led to an aggrevation or re-injury, but maybe they don'y have to prove it. If Ellsbury did everything the team asked and just did extra stuff on his own, I can't see him losing this case. His side claims they notified the Yanks he was going to do this and that, and since they did not tell him not to, that was essentially giving their okay. Better legal minds may have deeper insights, but I doubt the Yanks win.

This December has seen more activity than last year but not for us. I think teams looked to fill their needs through free agency, and those that lost out will now look to trades, and that's what we have been waiting for- desperate GMs settling on plan B's and C's. I had hoped we'd add a few bargain FAs with the money saved that creates some lux tax budget space, but the well is quickly drying up. I still think we will see a lot of action before the winter is over. BTW, today is the first day of winter!

Re-seeding rewards the better teams and helps create a better chance that the better (remaining) two teams will meet in the conference finals, whcih, in theory, should be more entertaining. I like the playoff format where #7 plays # 8 and the winner becomes the 7 seed. The loser plays the winner of #9 vs #10 play-in game for the final slot.

This is a difficult time for the Sox. Bloom is the right guy for this type of situation. Cut the guy some slack. He's not the one choosing to slash the budget.

I'm not saying I like this trade, but here's one the simulator approved: Betts & Price for Pollock, Maeda, Busch (minors 2B) & Cartaya (minors C) I won't pretend I know much about prospects, especially on other teams, but here is how these two prospects compare to ours based on this site's assigned values: 10.3 Cartaya 7.6 Busch 12.1 Duran 10.6 DHern 8.5 Jimenez 4.5 Ward 3.6 Lugo

We won't, but it's really more about what we do with the savings. After the Crawford, Beckett & AGon trade (dump) we signed Vic, Napoli & Dempster and watched a world of s*** turn to gold. I'm not saying I'd be happy trading Betts with Price for scraps, but let's see how the off season plays out before we judge. If there is a true mandate to reset, not many options will be pretty, in terms of 2020 expectation.
