  1. The Red Sox announced Monday that they’ve acquired minor league catcher Jhonny Pereda from the Cubs as the player to be named later in the January trade that sent righty Travis Lakins from Boston to Chicago. Lakins, oddly enough, is no longer even in the Cubs organization; he was claimed off waivers by the Orioles just 10 days after the Cubs acquired him. Pereda is not on the 40-man roster, so a corresponding move isn’t necessary for the Sox. Pereda, 24 next month, had a rough year in Double-A this past season, slashing .241/.336/.305 with just two home runs and 16 doubles in 398 plate appearances. Pereda caught a third of the runners who attempted to steal against him and won a minor league Gold Glove Award, but he also turned in poor framing metrics... -MLBTR
  2. Tommy John, himself did well afterwards, too.
  3. Belichick won a lot of games with other QBs.
  4. Me, too- with 2:1 odds. TB will NOT win a ring in the next 2 years. What I'd love to see is the Pats get Winston (not going to happen) and win next year!
  5. There is no hurry, now.
  6. If he had the surgery last July/August, he might be ready for the 2021 season.
  7. No. I'm a domer and was there for the 1977 championship. The college performances tip the balance. (Also, Reggie White was #3- not Brady.)
  8. It's fake news. Our president said the warm weather kills the virus.
  9. Best players from 1920 to 1970: Baseball: Babe Ruth & Ted Williams (Willie Mays and Tom Seaver close behind) Basketball: Wilt Chamberlain & Oscar Robertson (Bill Russell close) Football: Jim Brown & Johnny Unitas Hockey: "Rocket" Richard & Bobby Hull/Gordie Howe
  10. Best Hockey players over last 50 years: Wayne Gretsky Bobby Orr (Lemieux & Howe close 3rd & 4th)
  11. Best two basketball players the last 50 years: Michael Jordan Lebron James (Jabbar a close 3rd)
  12. Best to baseball players in the last 50 years: Barry Bonds Pedro Martinez (No steroids? Change Bonds to Trout.)
  13. My choices for the best 2 NFL players over the last 50 years are: Lawrence Taylor & Joe Montana.
  14. Here's an idea for a 62 game season (starting late July after 2 weeks of "summer training"): 4 Home and 4 Away vs own division (32 games). 3 Home vs 5 teams and 3 Away vs 5 teams -other 2 divisions (30 games). Top 8 teams from each league make the playoffs. All rounds are 7 games. Make the playoffs have much more games and teams. 1st round: 16 teams- possible 56 games. 2nd round: 8 teams- possible 28 games. ALC/NLC: 4 teams- possible 14 games. WS: 2 teams- possible 7 games (consider 9 game series, here.) If mid July is not quite the time to start, how about a shorter season starting in August? 3H & 3A vs own div (24 games) 3H vs 5 teams (15) 3A vs 5 teams (15) 54 game season.
  15. One could argue Pujols's last few years have lowered him enough to not be on the roster. 1B OPS leaders since 1995: 1.113 McGwire .970 Thome .960 Bagwell .953 Helton .949 Thomas .941 Votto .927 Pujols DH/1B .970 Edgar Martinez .931 Ortiz If you go by OPS only, not that I'm saying this is best, the best line-up might be: 1. Bonds RF 2. Trout CF 3. Ramirez DH 4. McGwire 1B 5. Walker LF 6. Cabrera 3B 7. ARod SS 8. Kent 2B 9. Piazza C Subs for consideration (listed by best OPS): C: Stanley/Posada/Lopez/Mauer 1B: E Martinez/Thome/Bagwell/Helton/Votto 2B: Cano/Alomar/Altuve/Utley/Biggio 3B: (ARod) Jones/Arenado/Donaldson SS: Nomar/Tulo/HRam/Larkin/Jeter (yuk!) OF: Belle/Berkman/Sheffield/Vlad SP: Pedro, Maddux, Johnson, Clemens, Verlander, Kershaw/Sale/deGrom/Scherzer RP: Rivera, Wagner, Hoffman, Uehara, Kimbrel, Chapman
  16. Kansas just called off school for the school year. Expect others to follow suit. Here in Texas, our district is looking into online lessons.
  17. Like Trumps kids are now?
  18. Start the season in August. Have 2 game series with all 14 other in league teams home and away. (56 game season) Seed teams by record- 8 teams per league. 5 game series round 1 then 7 the rest of the way.
  19. No way Utley, IRod, Jones and Suzuki make my team.
  20. The Yankees have clearly figured out some things on the development side... Yes, HGH and more...
  21. It wasn't worded that way. Your point about track & field athletes is a good one.
  22. I said he has "super-human skills" and mind. He is not a super human athlete. Others throw with more velocity, more accuracy and/or with more "touch." Yes, he puts it all together. What he is best at is rising to the occasion. He has some tremendous skills, some of which are physical. If we are talking about the best sports figures in the last 50 years, I would not argue with his name being on the list. I took the question as being the best physical super-human athletes. Maybe I'm wrong, but in that context, Brady does not belong.
  23. I don't think the question was who are the best sports players. It was about being "super-human athletes." Brady probably has a "super-human" football mind and skill, but not really the physical skill I think the question implied.
  24. It hasn't bottomed out yet. Good idea, though.
  25. If I have to stay inside everyday, and there's no sports to watch, I'll be super bummed out. Buy stock in Netflix.
