I'd rather trade Beni, despite his stock being at an all time low, than move him to CF. I'd rather add a RF'er and move Verdugo to CF than Beni. I'd rather sign a .600 OPS CF'er who plays great D than move Beni to CF. Are you seeing a pattern in my opinions?

Very true, but he is guy who steals bases at an over 30 per 600 PA rate.

The career .326 OBP doesn't help, but he's never been given more than 440 PAs in any season. His 162 game average is 31 SBs. His OBP the last 3 years has dipped to .317 (BA .236), but he has averaged 30+ SB's per 600 PAs over this time period. His career UZR/150 in CF is just +1.5. With his speed, you'd expect better. If we decided to platoon him (.717 v LHP and .640 v RHP), you kind of lose the SB advantage as he steals less bases vs lefties.

I agree on Beltre, though. The guy was a keeper! The fact that Youkilis, despite having a good 2011 season, fell off a cliff shortly after Beltre left made his departure even worse. 2010: .975 2011: .833 2012: .692 (traded) -
What time window are the most moves expected to happen? It seems like a slow start to the off season.

Probably true, but the Rays did non tender Dickerson after 27 HRs (T23rd) in 2017 then Cron after 30 Hrs in 2018 (T12th in AL). Duvall is a legitimate HR hitter, but with the shortened season, these kinds of statements need an asterisk.

He has another "main problem:" defense. Unless we plan on trading Beni and putting Polanco in LF, I'd rather have Kiermaier and Inciarte. So, we'd still need a CF'er. Polanco fills no current need area.

I like Kiermaier much better than Polanco, though. Since TB might be looking at their window as being open now, adding Vaz while cutting salary has to interest them. Just not for Snell. They may not be too worried about helping the Sox become a top contender during their window period. They can replace Kiermaier from within their own system, seemlessly. I'm thinking Kiermaier, Chirinos & catching prospect Hernandez for Vaz. I like Taillon as a target, too, and maybe we can do both deals, although adding Polanco & Kiermayer pretty much necessitates trading Beni or using an expensive platoon somewhere. Then, where do we get a catcher?

This trade was accepted: Chavis, Chatham, Groome & Bello to KC for Duffy (1 yr at $15.5M but $13M on tax), Barlow (4 yrs of control), Lee (OF prospect) and Gallagher (4 yrs back up catcher- maybe trade Vaz, later?)

That one seems rather extreme, to me, too. If Bloom has some positive, inside info on Bumgarner we don't know about, it's way too risky and costly.

The other time in the last 10 years I got upset was when they didn't keep Adrian Beltre. Yes he knocked Jacoby Ellsbury around, but that was an accident Seriously, what a fantastic third baseman. He should have been locked up in a long term deal. Watch the video. Ellsbury never called off Beltre. His mouth never moved. A 3Bman is supposed to run hard after every pop up, until he is called off. It was no accident. It was gross negligence on Ellsbury's part.

True, but Moncada was much higher ranked than Casas. Kopech higher than Houck. Verdugo or Downs are higher than Basabe.

We need 3 Snells and probably more. We are not even close to being in the position to make a deal like this, unless Henry and Bloom plan on a spending frenzy, this winter. If we sign Bauer, Hand a good CF'er and 2-3 more helpful pieces, then maybe we might think a deal like this makes us a top contender.

3 years of control at just $10M/yr on the lux tax is a huge plus, but I just don't see us being in a position to trade prospects for that one last big piece. That's the time you make deals like this.

I'm not a big believer in the whole "can't pitch under pressure," but I do think some players may have that problem. It could also be that Gray was coming off an injury and had to take time to return to form or "re-invent himself." I'm not for giving what the site requires for Gray. I think there are better deals like this, out there. I think getting Taillon would be a good start. I don't want Polanco, but we could DFA him and the deal would still be a good one.

"better" with the Yanks (up for debate) does not mean "no bueno" for the Sox.

This surprises me, as Brice is out of options. I had him on the top of my DFA list, so that shows how little I know about how Bloom views our bubble players.

I never think of anyone as "untouchable," but certainly there are players I'd avoid trading, unless the offer was right. (Devers is top of that list for me.) It's hard to know how other GMs value our players, but to get great players, you have to give up a lot. I'm not sure now is the time to trade top prospects for a #1 or #2 level SP'er. The names might be Casas and/or Downs, DHern or Mata and maybe more. I'm not high on Chavis or Chatham, but my guess is not many GMs are either, and we certainly won't get a very good pitcher for just that package. Maybe Dalbec & ??? can get someone better. Not many GM want to trade "arms of the future." Why would they?

Yes, I doubt the Rays are shopping Yarbrough or Fairbanks, especially inter-division. Sonny Gray's value on Trade Values is higher than I think he's worth, so I haven't explored that option. I've made several for Tailon, including an expansion of the 3-way deal you suggested. The comments made on your trade (Vaz to TB, Edwards to TB and Taillon to the Sox) mentioned that maybe the Rays wouldn't want to pay Vaz's contract, which might seem high to them, so I add Kierimaier coming to us, and someone coming from TB to us- maybe it was Yarbrough.

The hardest to evaluate are the younger prospects. What kind of workouts did some do vs others? Nobody really saw line, in-game scenarios, so it's easy to assume almost all stayed at the same level or regressed, but their now a year older( and "wiser?" Probably, not). Some might improve due to their body's maturation or by resting an ailing arm or knee more than they might otherwise had done. We could see some very sloppy minor league games to start the season. We could see a rash of injuries.

He looked very promising in 2019, on defense, so I'm not sure you can know, for sure, anything about where he ends up. It's not a sure thing he follows Pablito's exercise and dietary plans.
