  1. Do yes answers to any or all of these Qs mean he shouldn't even be on the ballot? Look, I agree he should not be a 100% winner. The babe wasn't even that, but he deserves to be on the ballot. (I would not vote for him.)
  2. Bonds in but Clemens & Manny not sounds like a mixed message.
  3. True 'nuff, but neither did or has done much to build up some depth with cheap signings.
  4. So, already Bloom > DD (2018-2019 winter version)
  5. As you get this old, they all sort of blend together!
  6. It's been a boring winter. At least last year, we had the JD signing looming in our minds.
  7. Exactly. Had we had an argument before marriage, I may not have ever said, "yes."
  8. My first wife and I never had an argument for the first 3 years of our relationship.
  9. One can be quiet and still need to clam down.
  10. No, and I try to stay positive. My point is, I think some GMs would like to have Price or Eovaldi as options or "hopes," but only the money gets in the way.
  11. Other teams wanted him, too. The Astros were one. (That doesn't mean they still want him, but they do need SP'ing.)
  12. I would. Neither looks to be part of our longer term hopes and plans. I said the same about HRam after his first season here-something like, "If he hits .300 35 120 next year, I'd want to trade him even more..."
  13. Very true, but when you have a gaping hole in your 4 or 5 slot, you may take a gamble on one of them. Fans here seem to have no problem thinking there's a significant chance we compete next year because one or both will rebound in 2020. When you see what some injury-prone pitchers are signing for, these days (including Eovaldi's signing last winter), you can guess some GMs are willing to settle on potential value.
  14. They might also want Eovaldi- like they did last winter... The Trade Simulator accepted this deal: Betts & Eovaldi $3M cash for Urquidy Reddick (to help offset Eovaldi's money) Jeremy Pena Cristian Javier
  15. I agree he'd be more open to an extension, but he's also open to sign with us in 2021. I'm just not for trading Betts for any one year players, unless the team insists it is needed to balance the money.
  16. You answered your own question. "Impossible to know" = not certain. Plus, I said "all the trades."
  17. Agreed, but why waste some of the trading value of Betts to get him for one more year- probably for a non-contending year?
  18. We can sign Springer in DEC 2021 without using up Betts's trade value getting him for 2020. IMO, the best option is to trade, if we must, him for players under team control at a low cost for several years and then used the money to sign Betts or someone like Springer for 2021 and beyond. That way, we have several players in 2021 not just the guy we sign with Betts's money.
  19. I don't get why people keep suggesting we trade Betts for 1 and done players. There's no purpose. Yes, Urquidy would be here longer, but that's not enough for losing Betts.
  20. Here are the players that made $25M+ in the past: Greinke Price Kershaw Scherzer deGrom Lester Verlander Stasburg Arrieta Miggy Goldschmidt Howard Arenado Machado ARod Trout Cespedes Harper Hamilton
  21. Not the last two. I guess the team might not be out looking to trade Betts (#1), but will listen to any offers made (#2 & #3).
  22. They certainly did. Did the trades certainly lead to that or us having the best record ever? I'd say highly probable but not certainly, and certainly not every trade.
