  1. It appears to me, it is you beating your chest about being wrong, again. We got more than Verdugo, and somehow you twist it into you convincing yourself you were right. (Hint: everybody can see through your escapades.) Yes, you are too much. I expected 2020 to be disappointing, and was hoping we could improve the extended future somehow this winter. This looks to be a step in that direction, and yes, at the sad expense of 2020's already slim hopes.
  2. NO, dumping Price will make us way more competitive for beyond 2020. The reset alone can save millions in taxes. Then, the $16M saved by dumping Price could get us someone like this: 2020 FAs signed for close to about $16M a year Madison Bumgarner $17M x 5 Nick Casstellanos $16M x 4 Will Smith $13.3M x 3 Tanner Roark $12M x 2 Didi Gregorius $14M x 1 Rick Porcello $10M x 1 plus Jonathan Schoop $6.1M x 1
  3. The trade simulator would never have accepted this deal as a gross imbalance in the Sox favor.
  4. We would have had we not included Price.
  5. You're too much. Period.
  6. If he signs a $420M/10 extension, we'll know we were never going to pay that anyways, so in a way, it will make the deal look better, to me. It will pain me deeply to know he ain't coming back.
  7. This guy has a decent BB/9 rate and has K'd over 1 per IP at every level, so let's give the guy a shot.
  8. LOL, you are too much.
  9. I expected as much. He was probably worth maybe $10-12M x 3 on the open market, so we actually got LA to pay more than his worth. Now, he could bounce back and make me eat those words, but I for one am glad to be rid of Price.
  10. To me, it's all about the Dodgers extending him or not. If they don't we have better than "slim odds." I'm not sure we want to pay, but the reset is the only way it could ever happen. Let's not pretend we had a better chance at keeping Betts by trying to sign him this winter or after he played out 2020 without the Sox resetting.
  11. Mookie wanted to go to free agency. If we signed Mookie this year, we'd pay a 50% tax for this year and several more to follow. Certainly resetting gives us the best chance we could ever hope for in keeping Betts here.
  12. True, and we dumped two big contracts. All I know is a bunch of people said there was no way the Dodgers would take on so much salary again. I hate losing Betts, don't get me wrong, but we got something for him and we set up our budget nicely for 3 years. It wasn't what we got back in trade that made that deal net us a ring in 2013, it was the budget space opened up that allowed us to sign Napoli, Vic and others.
  13. I'm sure the Dodgers will offer the world, and it will be interesting if Mookie keeps to his word on going to free agency, but if he does, we should have as good a chance as anyone else, assuming we want to pay.
  14. It's like the AGon trade. It's more about the CC and Price dump, but Verdugo is better than anything we got back in the AGon deal.
  15. He pitched 102 IP in 2018 and 72 in 2019.
  16. Verdugo is only 23. He had an .817 OPS last year in 377 PAs. He hit .842 in AAA (874 PAs). I'm liking the promise he has. If he doesn't amount to much, we still dumped Price and can get Betts back much more easily without $15M of Price's money on the books for 3 more years.
  17. It's a pretty solid hope and a mess a money saved.
  18. Sounds fair. I wouldn't pay Price $16M x 3, so I see it as a plus. We can afford Betts next winter, if that's what Bloom wants. If not, we can hope Bloom does his thing with bargain deals and much more money to spend than he ever had in TB. I hate seeing Mookie go, but I'm still holding out hope he comes back next year.
  19. Double pipe dream! We got Verdugo AND dumped Price!
  20. Wow! Questions... How much money goes to LAD? Did we include anyone else?
  21. I'm wondering how much of Price's deal we pay.
  22. If we get Verdugo and dump Price, Bloom is a genius. Well worth the long wait.
  23. I have 3 sources that say the Yanks cheated- the father, son and Swihart's Ghost.
  24. I was one who said "just one year," and there is no way we get the 3 guys you and others mentioned. Maybe one of the 3 and a side piece or two, but some of the outlandish suggestions remain just as outlandish.
  25. Baseball is in the entertainment business. Imagine a band nearly filling stadiums 162 times a year.
