  1. Any list like this might be more informative, if they provided all the players lost- like JBJ, Tanaka, Paxton, Happ...
  2. That shows just how crappy the bottom of our 40 man roster is. I could add 4-6 more names of players I would not fret over losing for nothing in return.
  3. One of the biggest "hometown discounts" I remember was Joe Mauer with MN. I thought he left a lot of money on the table.
  4. Plus, the few that signed for the "winner" or "home town team" they want to play with, usually did NOT leave a heap of money on the table. either.
  5. True, but they dumped CC and cleared up a lot of budget space, making it one of the best Sox trades, evah! Strange how one of our best trades ever, brought back just about nothing. (Note: we did trade de la Rosa & Webster for Wade Miley.)
  6. What's the amount of games or PAs needed to drop off the list? Will he pass that amount by the mid season ranking time?
  7. Exactly, and while we had lost Betts before 2020, we had lost AGon and Beckett before 2013, too.
  8. I'm not claiming he will be great and never get hurt again. I'm just saying, he has already shown he can pitch well without his highest velocity. (Plus, I'm not so sure he can't regain most of his velocity.)
  9. Money has to be the number one factor- by far. If two offers are very close, then other factors play a role. There are exceptions to this, of course, but it's about the money.
  10. Had the Sox used up most of their winter spending budget on DJ, it would not have been "genius." We need pitching, pitching, pitching. Your needs are different. Your rotation is golden & rock solid.
  11. Sale has already shown he can pitch very well without top velocity.
  12. I had Chatham high on my "next to be DFA'd" list, so maybe we get something good from Philly later on.
  13. Sale put up some of his best numbers after returning from an injury and had diminished velocity. I'm not saying he is a lock to have a 7 WAR again, but he can get above 4 or 5. I guess this must also mean Severino is toast, too, right? Let's hear your projections for ... Montgomery German Garcia Severino King Be just as critical. Try it.
  14. Agreed. If we sign Odorizzi to 3 years, it would be a better signing than Kluber. I'm also glad we did not outbid the Yanks for DJ.
  15. I'm not arguing against this. The talk was about the rotation. I didn't change the subject: you did. (It's okay to change the subject, but it doesn't change the truth about our questionable rotations.)
  16. Yes, you said "team" in response to his point about just the rotation.
  17. I'm not sure who it will be, but we are going over the tax line, next year. Also, losing Pedey's contract and being 1 year away from losing Eovaldi's & JD should make spending large more manageable.
  18. I do remember many posters going nutty about us not doing much that winter, too. Now, if winter comes and goes and all we have to show for it is Perez, Renfroe, Andriese and some other 5th starter type, then I'll be joining the choir front & center.
  19. Looks like Lester to the Nats.
  20. I think we paid just $21K in 1999. That does not mean we thought we stayed under, but we did cut it pretty close. Had we dumped some of our plaayers a few weeks early, we'd have reset in 1999- not that it would have made a world of difference.
  21. Are all the valuable FAs and trade bait players taken, already? Can we at least wait until we see what our 2021 team will actually be before ripping Bloom a new one?
  22. We are gong to spend big, next winter. Book it. If the spending brings us guys like HRam & Pablo, maybe we won't compete in 2022, but it won't be because our rebuild plan is 4-5 years long.
