  1. Red Sox Interview Luis Urueta, Don Kelly, Skip Schumaker By Steve Adams https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/10/red-sox-rumors-luis-urueta-dbacks-coach-interview-manager.html MLBTR also reports: Chris Cotillo suggests that Connor Wong, Hudson Potts, Jeisson Rosario, Jay Groome, Bryan Mata, and Connor Seabold are the prospects Boston will add to to 40-man roster in the coming weeks. Outfielder Marcus Wilson is also a fair bet to make that list. Some of the departures are easy to spot, such as free agent to be Jackie Bradley Jr., or DFA candidates like Jose Peraza, , Matt Hall, Zack Godley, Andrew Triggs, Cesar Puello, Tzu-Wei Lin. Dustin Pedroia is also a likely removal, despite the $12.125MM he is owed for 2021 The fact is, the Red Sox more likely to move on from much more than just 13 players, the number it would take to get their 40-man roster down to 40. They’ll need space to add players, as well. Especially for a team like the Red Sox – given their place in the rebuilding cycle – they are more likely to add a flyer or two, as well as make a selection in the Rule 5 draft..
  2. As I've mentioned before, our roster is so "shallow" I don't see a roster crunch, right now or at Rule 5 time. Only after we start signing multiple free agents will a choice like this have to be made.
  3. I expect we may be claiming a few players, here and there, too. We might end up cutting ties with Pedey, too.
  4. It seemed longer ago that it was. I was thinking, "Is this his son?"
  5. To tell you the truth, when I first saw Bard's name, this season, I thought it must be another person with the same name.

  8. He might have been thinking more about the short term future outlook and the 2019 results. Even if we made a stronger play to keep Betts, here, the idea of re-setting the tax was still hanging over the team. Betts knew this.
  9. Signing lots of 1 years deals often help at the trade deadline, too- assuming we are sellers.
  10. What if Pillar's number is $10M/2 vs Marisnick at $3M/2 or $2M/1?
  11. They may still be looking at not starting the clock on lux taxes, this year. If they do, they may look to pay as little taxes as possible. With JBJ, if he wants 2-3 years, then the tax implications may deter a re-signing. On Marisnick vs Hamilton: Yes, Marisnick sandwiched those two good seasons around .700 and .674 OPS seasons, but even those seasons were light years better than Hamilton's: .634 in 2017 .626 in 2018 .564 in 2019 .390 in 2020 .611 from 2017-2020. That overall average is .063 worse than Marisnick's worst season in the last 4 years!
  12. Time to re-evaluate your positions.
  13. Hamilton's offense is just so horrific. Pillar will likely make 2-3 times what these others make. JBJ 4-5 times, maybe.
  14. His speed may help him compensate for lack of experience or instincts. One never knows. Look how quickly Mookie adjusted to OF play. We certainly cannot count on Duran as our CF'er for 2021. Tell me what you think of Marisnick. To me, he seems like the best of the cheaper CF options.
  15. He has to be mentally and developmentally ready, too.
  16. That determination is the wild card. That time could come in June or next June/July.
  17. That may be part of the equation. I'm not all that high on Duran's chances at proving he can be our FT CF'er, but either way, Marisnick would be just a place-holder for the next "real deal" CF'er. Right now, our major focus should be pitching. Getting a plus defender in CF would help in that area, too.
  18. What are posters' thoughts on signing Jake Marisnick to a cheap deal? He's a plus defender who has power. He's got a .738 OPS over the last 4 years- much of which was padded by his 2017 season (.815), but he does have a .726 OPS over the past 2 seasons with 20+ HR power (kinda like JBJ at .760 the last 2 seasons combined). He'd probably take a 1-2 year deal at a very low cost. I think he'd be better than Dyson, Hamilton or J Jay. I like Pillar better, but maybe as a plan B, assuming JBJ signs elsewhere.
  19. Farm piece... https://www.milb.com/news/state-of-the-system-boston-red-sox
  20. I'd need to get out my calculator.
  21. Interestingly, he traded the one $30M man with Betts to LAD. Now, we have none.
  22. Chuck Todd isn't even close.
  23. ...and it wasn't just Price. DD essentially chose to sign Sale, JD and Bogey knowing it may make it harder to keep Betts, later. He may have tried harder to keep Betts anyways, if Henry allowed him to do so.
  24. Yes, but I still viewed it as at least equal to Fld%.
  25. B and it's not even close. Even if 6-7 times out of those 10, the guy gets to 2B on the error.
