  1. We may wait and decide to go over at the deadline, or not, if we look to be out of it.
  2. If we trade Beni for low cost players, we can maybe add a CF'er & pitcher w/o going over.
  3. Agreed, but I have Andriese in the pen and Mata as a SP'er. Some can be moved to the other list.
  4. Makes me wonder who will be his first large and long deal. (Will it be next winter?)
  5. Here is our current pitching depth chart: SP Sale ERod Richards Eovaldi Perez Pivetta Houck Whitlock Mata Seabold Mazza Hart Gossett Kent Ward RP Barnes Ottavino Brasier D Hern Taylor Brice Andriese Valdez Brewer Weber Walden Springs Payamps Bazardo Gonsalves Hall Shawaryn Grotz Am I missing anyone with a shot at MLB in 2021?
  6. Could still be a high priority, and only a great deal would create a situation where they decide to go over.
  7. We may just sign Pillar & Marisnick, if we trade Beni. We may also just trade Beni for a CF'er.
  8. Speaking of the future, here are our most recent stars we acquired and/or decided to keep for an extended time: 2021: none 2020: none 2019: Sale extended for 5 years (20-24) Bogey extended for 6 years (20-25- opt out after '22) 2018: JD Martinez signed for 5 years Eovaldi via trade & re-signed for 4 years (19-22) Vaz extended for 3 years (19-21) 2016: Price signed for 7 years (16-22) NOT WANTED to KEEP Sale via trade 2015: Pablo signed to 5 years (15-19 w option 6th yr) NOT KEPT HRam signed for 4 years (15-18 w option 5th yr) NOT KEPT Kimbrel via trade (3 years 16-18) 2014: Porcello via trade and extended for 4 years (16-19) ERod via trade and re-signed/arbs (15-21) 2013: Pedey extended for 8 years (14-21) Victorino signed for 3 years (13-15) 2012: Buchholz extended for 4 years w 2 option yrs (12-15/17) Did I miss anyone?
  9. Actually, they don't need Taillon to throw one pitch, this year, so I don't see them structuring their team around him. Yes, if one of these long shot prospects comes through, they could lose something, but the Yanks have a much stronger and deeper farm than us, so losing these 4 are hardly a blip on their screen. I can see your point, but I don't see much of a "risk" at all. I'd have given much more than what the Yanks gave up, and that might have been a "risk," so maybe that's why I'm viewing it this way.
  10. 9 SP'ers, a solid pen, a solid offense and decent defense- all while re-setting. As much as I hate the Yanks, it's hard to find fault.
  11. Yes, same as Richards and maybe others.
  12. IL (opening day): Sale & ERod Retired: Pedroia 1. Benintendi LF 2. Verdugo CF 3. Bogaerts SS 4. Devers 3B 5. Martinez DH 6. Renfroe RF 7. Dalbec 1B 8. Vazquez C 9. Hernandez 2B Bench: Plawecki, Arroyo, Chavis, Puello SP: Eovaldi, Richards, Perez, Pivetta, Houck (sent down when ERod/Sale return) RP:Barnes, Ottavino, Brasier, D Hern, Taylor, Brice, Andriese, Whitlock AAA/AA possible 2021 help: C: Pereda/Wong 1B: Ockimey 2B: Arauz/Munoz (not on 40 man)/Downs SS: Arauz/Munoz 3B: Munoz LF: Munoz CF: Duran RF: Gettys SP: (Houck), Mata, Seabold, Mazza, Hart RP: Valdez, Brewer, Bazardo, Payamps. Weber, Feltman
  13. I liked the Sale extension for this reason. I did not like the Eovaldi extension.
  14. Chavis hits righties better than lefties, but maybe we add a LH'd bat that's cheaper than Beni and can play CF (or RF better than Renfroe).
  15. Agreed. Trading or DFA'ing Payamps, Springs or Brice makes more sense.
  16. Even if we don't sign JBJ, we may trade Beni to add $6M to our winter spending budget. We have some guys who can play LF but not CF, too well. Renfroe Chavis Puello
  17. Only $850K paid by the Yanks.
  18. Let's not go back to Sparky Lyle for Danny Cater.
  19. So, we need to add Hernandez, Richards and Ottavino to the 40 man roster and have only 1 slot open. What two go? Trade Beni and/or Brice (no options left)? Payamps Springs Wilson (but we have shallow OF depth) Send Whitlock back or somewhere else?
  20. BTV has him at -5.3, so they must view him as worth $3.7M, since he's paid $9M. I'd say he might be worth $6-9M, and maybe the prospect makes it an okay deal.
  21. Barnes- Career OPS by inning .655 7th inning (79 IP) .688 8th inning (126 IP) .690 9th inning (58 IP) .754 5th inning (11 IP) .793 6th inning (35 IP) His career OPS against is .679- pretty close to his 9th inning OPS of .690, which is an OPS we would not want any of our batters to have. I'm not saying I want Matt to be our closer, but there is still a chance he could do well in that role, if given another opportunity.
  22. MLBTR reports we are paying $8M of his 2021 salary plus the $3M differed bonus in 2022. The lux tax hit will be about $8.1M. He can be real good, and we get a prospect, too, but I'm skeptical.
  23. Sox add Ottavino & $8M. MLBTR... “it appears” the Red Sox are taking on Ottavino’s $8MM salary and a deferred $3MM signing bonus that is due to be paid out in 2022. In doing so, they’ll effectively purchase a new pitching prospect and take on a potential bounceback reliever (who could be a deadline trade candidate if the Sox are out of the division hunt). The Yankees, meanwhile, will shed Ottavino’s $9MM luxury-tax hit.
  24. The Sale extension had more effect on the budget (and keeping Betts) than Eovaldi.
  25. Are we taking the whole salary?
