  1. I understand why he's doing it, especially at 2B and CF/OF, but teams can always use the stability of having a good pitcher under team control for 3 or more years- like Odorizzi. Not many closer types got 3+ year deals, this winter. Did any?
  2. Options for just one more year. We have made no deals longer than 1-2 years. I find it doubtful, Bloom sees no available player he likes enough to commit to 3 or more years. Either the cost was too high, or the budget constraints and needs to fill so many gaps made it all but impossible to spend enough on someone worthy of 3+ years.
  3. I'm not sure what other offers were out there, if any, and if there were not many, then maybe his health issues are deeper than I imagined. I'm not expert on prospects, even our own, and I'm sure Ben likes something he sees in a few of the guys he got back. I have also said maybe my evaluation of Taillon is way too high. I do see pitchers like Kluber and Richards getting paid way more than Taillon, and certainly prospects traded have value, even if they are not highly ranked. Four prospects is a lot. I guess we'll have to wait and see how this pans out. Maybe Taillon is toast, and I'll eat my words. He does have 2 years to give some significant value. Maybe one or two of those four prospects amounts to something useful or even special. I'm not sure, if there is anything more to say. We all have our opinions, and yours and others who think this was a good deal for PIT all have merit. I rate the trade as A+ for Yanks and C- for PIT based on just about no knowledge of what else was on the table and what budget constraints Ben is under.
  4. Do you like the idea of going after a 2Bman NOT CF'er and using Hernandez where he seems to be better defensively (CF)?
  5. I expected at least 2 deals like this- deals that help in 2021 and also 2022 and beyond. Now, I'm wondering, if we do just one! It's like we are punting to 2022 with all these one year deals. Now, this may work out, as maybe we can trade some of these one year players, beef up our farm, and then have a lot of budget space to splurge next winter. Even so, how can it hurt to add one three year guy?
  6. Dominoes left standing... Trevor Bauer (NYM made recent offer) Marcell Ozuna Didi Gregorius Jake Odorizzi Justin Turner Joc Pederson Jackie Bradley Nelson Cruz James Paxton Taijuan Walker Kolten Wong Trevor Rosenthal Yadier Molina Adam Wainwright Alex Colome Rick Porcello Cole Hamels Mark Melancon Chris Archer Shane Green, Jake McGee, Matt Moore, Jonathan Schoop, Kevin Pillar, Brett Gardner, Jonathan Villar, Brad Miller, Joakim Soria, Brandon Kintzler, Mitch Moreland
  7. Prospects added to soxprospects.com's top prospects list since the end of the 2019 season: 2. Downs (Betts trade) 9. Seabold (with Pivetta in Workman/Hembree trade) 13. Yorke (draft) 15. Rosario (Moreland trade) 17. Potts (Moreland trade) 19. Jordon (draft) 21. Wong (Betts trade) 23. Wallace (Pillar trade) 27. German (with Ottavino trade) 31. Whitlock (rule 5) 33. Drohan (draft) 37. Koss (Aybar trade) 39. Bleis (IFA) Most newly acquired prospects are down the list, but... there are 2 in the top 9 (22%) 8 in the top 23 (35%) 13 in the top 39 (33%) My top 25 might have more newbees: 1. Downs 2. Casas 3. Mata 4. Dalbec 5. Houck 6. Jimenez 7. Song 8. Seabold 9. Ward 10. Duran 11. Rosario 12. ARamirez 13. Bello 14. Potts 15. Wong 16. Bonaci 17. Yorke 18. Lugo 19. Jordan 20. Groome 21. Murphy 22. Arauz 23. Wallace 24. Whitlock 25. German
  8. soxprospects.com placed Frank German in the 27th slot- right behind Bazardo and a couple ahead of Feltman, then Wilson & Whitlock.
  9. How about we sign Jonathan Schoop & Alex Colome? 1. E Hernandez CF 2. Verdugo RF 3. Bogey SS 4. Devers 3B 5. JD DH 6. Beni-Renfroe LF 7. Dalbec 1B 8. Vazquez C 9. Schoop 2B
  10. Could we be looking at the Enrique Hernandez signing from the wrong angle? I know the sample sizes are not too large, but out of 74 CF'ers with 600+ innings in CF since 2017, Enrique places 7th in UZR/150 at +10.4. (JBJ is at 4.0.) Since 2015, he places 6th out of 71 CF'ers with 900+ innings in CF- just ahead of Lorenzo Cain. (JBJ is 18th at 4.9.) At 2B, he places 69th out of 72 2Bmen since 2015 at -6.7. Maybe, we should be looking for a 2Bman NOT a CF'er! Kolton Wong is still out there, right? Jonathan Schoop?
  11. We can win it all in '22, or we can trade Taillon after he finished 4th in the AL Cy Young voting.
  12. Is there some survey results somewhere?
  13. None of the trades I mentioned would come close to "decimation." I'll be thrilled if these 4 combines even play 2 years in MLB, let alone at the level Taillon is.
  14. Not impressed. Give me PIllar or a trade for a plus defender in CF and a decent bat.
  15. I wish we could have 2 of him. Right now, he's our best 2B option and our best CF option.
  16. Nats sign Lester to $5M/1.
  17. Yes, about a 20% chance.
  18. No you can't, so that's one reason I provided 4 or 5 examples. I'm not saying any would have been preferred by Ben, but my suggested offers are likely close to what it might have taken. (I bet Ben would take the one with Jimenez in it.)
  19. Only because you think a team spending over $200M a year will take 5 years to rebuild. (We're already in year 2 or 3.) BTW, your team took just days to rebuild. Remember?
  20. It's like both teams are in a competition to see who can have the most question marks on their staffs. Despite O'Day's fine numbers the last few years, he only has 42 IP over the last 3 seasons combined. He just turned 38, but at $1.75M, there is little risk.
  21. That changes everything. You win.
  22. Let's try this: here's how BTV might match the values of our prospects to those the Yanks actually gave up for Taillon: Smith OF 7.6> Yorke 2B 7.6 Yajure P 5.4> Potts 3B 5.4 Contreras P 4.8> Song P 4.6 Escotto SS 4.0> Rosario 4.0 Would you give those 4? Or? 7.6 Yorke 6.0 Chavis 5.3 Ward 4.3 Groome Or? 10.8 Jimenez 5.3 Ward 4.3 Groome 3.0 Murphy Or? 6.0 Jordan 5.3 Ward 5.0 Lugo 4.3 Groome
  23. I'm just hoping Beni can do well in his half of a platoon with Renfroe in LF. I want a reac CF'er added to this team. I'd be fine with a 2Bman and moving EHern to CF, too. He's a good defender in CF.
  24. Probably not, unless we seem some serious bounce back. Toronto has the advantage, as of now, but not by all that much. Renfore should be better on O than JBJ. EHern should be better on O than what we had at 2B, last year. Dalbec for a full season should help, but we had a .942 OPS at 1B, last year. None of these compare to the Jays additions on O. We need big bounces from JD, Devers & Beni.
