1. Usually in response to somebody praising DD or blasting Bloom for the situation we're in, now. 2. Was the farm not "decimated" or nearly decimated? (We kept Beni & Devers and a couple far away guys that look better, now.) 3. We keep hearing, "only one player he traded has registered a season with an fWAR higher than 2.1." over and over, as well. 4. Yes, the "can" was never closed, but it's a two-way street, as the can is opened on both ends.

The Sox prospects DD traded away were much higher ranked than that, and all I hear is none have amounted to squat. "None would have helped us win in 2019 or 2020." Some of the same people on that bandwagon, now want us to feel great about the chances of #11 through #20 prospects.

I was a big Quintana fan at the time of the Kimbrel and Sale deals. I had once argued maybe we could have gotten both had we not made the Kimbrel deal. (Quinatan has one more year of team control than Sale and Kimbrel.) Quintana was a let down, so what do I know? (DON"T ANSWER THAT!)

Yes, it is different, because time has elapsed on many the DD trades, and some he has traded away are known to be busts, however, with Daniel Bard's return- never say never. I just see a bit of a contradiction when a few people poo-poo the prospects we traded away and have great hopes for those we acquire. Don't get me wrong, I love the deals Bloom made. I also think the choices DD made were not just trade prospects vs keeping them, it involves how many were traded and could we have traded for different players with longer team control. I'm not trying to open that can of worms again. The subject has been beaten to death several times over. I'm hopeful and confident several of the prospects Bloom acquired will be meaningful additions to our roster.

Sox decline option on Marin Perez. One more rotation slot to fill. $6M added to the spending budget.

They may decide to trade away players making just $5-10M, who are not "overpaid" just to cut their losses. They may ask for less in return than they normally would. I wasn't really think of them paying part of the salary, but I guess those types of deals could occur, too. I was just speaking in the hypothetical. If nobody wants Hand at $10M, they probably don't want some capable players on their roster, right now making $5-15M. Good players.

We could sign up to 7-9 free agents- many to one year terms and try for a 2021 surprise. It would allow us to start again in 2022 due to another higher spending budget. I'd rather we try to build for 2022 and beyond, but I'm not sure the market will allow it. One thing to think about: if teams are really looking at saving money, I have to think some previous "untradeable players" may now be available via trades at possible discount return values. The problem is, who do we have to trade for these possible bargain players?

If this winter's market is as depressed as it seems it is, and most players seek one year deals, it's hard to imagine what the Sox plan will be. Certainly some one year deals were likely in the works beforehand, but for a team most likely looking at 2022 and beyond more than 2021, the free agent market may not be where we will be most active.

The meeting could be about an organizational role for Pedey after retirement.

They should- in hopes that things turn around and next winter is a better market situation.

Exactly. It sounds like Pedey sees the writing on the wall and those talks will happen soon.

I've been saying this, all along. We have the weakest down roster in decades. Our bottom 15-20 can all be easily replaced. When we add the 6-7 rule 5 protected players and maybe 1-2 rule 5 draftees, we'll still have 5-10 players that have very little promise. Now, do we keep Pedey on the roster, just so we can have some special Pedey day where maybe he gets one AB? I'm not sure having him on the roster makes the day anymore special. I think he will be removed from the roster- most likely by November 20th. I don't think we lose anybody all that good, if we keep him around, but it makes little sense keeping a roster slot for him.

I think they might be trying to work out the details of when and how he retires. Maybe some sort of financial agreement will be made, involving him staying in the organization in some capacity as a non player. There is no rush to do it, this second, but maybe by November 20th. If he is on the roster on NOV 21st, I'll be surprised. We don't even have 40 men on the roster, right now, so Pedey is not taking anyone's slot.

It's all about winning. Many people will be hired or hired back once things get rolling again- hopefully sooner than later.

I'll always remember Pedey fondly. He was a gutsy player. Grit. Determined.
