  1. The 6th inning has been his downfall. Innings 1-5: 3 runs allowed 6th inning: 5 runs allowed OPS Against by innings: .520 1st .500 2nd .500 3rd .641 4th .450 5th 1.125 6th Times facing a batter: .493 1st .548 2nd 1.203 3rd
  2. The idea would be to PH Renfroe for Cordero or Cordero for Renfroe after a pitching change, but a manager might be reluctant with a 2 man bench. (I don't count Plawecki.) Renfroe still has a massive split differential, while Cordero has yet to show his normal wide L-R split. For the same reason the 14th pitcher offers more options rather than filling a need, so does having a 3 man bench vs a 2 man bench. I might offer the argument that there is actual need for the extra bench guy, either as a PH'er, a defensive replacement or just to offer flexibility or an emergency back-up. The horse has been beaten enough. It's not a major issue that affects the team that much either way.
  3. Gonzalez>Arroyo? (I'm not complaining.) Good to see no Renfroe or Cordero.
  4. Mookie, $150M, Gonsolin for Duran and Ward.
  5. Exactly on your last point. Had we kept Betts, we'd have holes everywhere else.
  6. Some context is needed. We lost 60 games of Betts. Yes, a HOF player. We gained 4 years of Verdugo. 5 years of Downs 5 years of Wong $300M+ is budget space
  7. Well, the Caddy was a broken down heap and the 4 cans were a priceless Warhol Campbell Soup Can painting, so there is that...
  8. Someone said the Brewers had the best pitching staff in MLB...
  9. Why can't we ever find pitchers like him?
  10. Last 7 days: .733 Career: .692 April .912 May .816 June .709 July .701 August .830 Sept. He likes it warm- not hot or cold outside.
  11. I'm not prepared or willing to take on that data dive! I know we were the closest team to have Mo's number. WHIP vs Sox: 1.246 (under 1.000 vs rest of league) ERA: 2.86 (under 2.20 vs rest of league)
  12. soxprospects.com... -Outfielder Danny Santana, seen by some as a potential big league callup if injury or performance required another outfielder, has agreed to extend his opt-out into May as the Boston Globe's Alex Speier reports. The original opt-out was set for April 30. -After throwing 17 innings with a 0.53 ERA to end last season, Tanner Houck (pictured, right) was certainly getting noticed, and he has been solid to start 2021 with a 4.35 ERA and 1.35 WHIP after 10.1 innings over two starts and a relief appearance. Houck tells MassLive.com's Christopher Smith that the "light bulb finally flicked on" ($) when watching one of Chris Sale's bullpen sessions last spring training.

  14. Duran moves into Baseball America's Top 100 List at #99.
  15. Thanks, I added him.
  16. Sox fans complain about Renfroe & Cordero, but check out some of these numbers from the last place Yanks: .462 Frazier .466 Bruce (.499 Cordero) .539 Hicks (.545 Renfroe) .552 Tauchman (gone) .560 Gardner .569 Ford .582 Torres .612 Odor .617 Sanchez (.648 Marwin) (.665 Vaz) .667 Wade (.696 Dalbec) .705 Lemahieu (.728 Kike) .732 Stanton .749 Urshela (.771 Arroyo) .885 Judge (.908 Verdugo) (.910 Devers) (.949 Bogey) (1.145 JD) 1.294 Higgy 6 of their 10 players with 40+ PAs are below .617! 4 are below .582! Only 1 is above .750!
  17. We all can see how badly Renfroe, Cordero and Plawecki are doing, this April, but let's look at some OPS by other players once considered or suggested by posters, here, including some by myself (FA or by trade)- plus a couple ex-Sox players for good measure: .305 Pillar .410 Josh Bell .429 Adam Haseley .434 Dustin Fowler .471 Plawecki .492 J Schoop .498 Joc Pederson .499 Cordero .525 M Ozuna .531 A McCutchen .536 D Fowler .545 Renfroe .546 Schwarber .560 JBJ .560 B Gardner .561 Cesar Hernandez .598 K Kiermaier .599 Benintendi .603 J Heywood .608 B Holt .609 J McCann .612 R Odor .613 T La Stella .615 E Rosario .627 AJ Pollock .635 J Profar .637 L Cain .648 Marwin G .671 Travis Shaw .672 M Semien .676 Joe panik .680 J Villar .696 Dalbec .700 Sandy leon .706 J Polanco .710 J Stallings .721 E Inciarte .760 Betts .768 J Upton .771 Arroyo .779 Adam Frazier .792 Jed Lowrie .815 Brad Miller .826 Wil Myers .827 Jake Marisnikck .873 M Moustakas .942 M Brantley .955 K Wong .993 K Bryant 1.288 Pablito Sandoval
  18. I thought are hitting would be our clear strength and maybe be top 5 or 6, but more likely top 7-10. We are being led by 4 guys with 2-3 others doing okay. One other thing to take into consideration is the fact that the whole league is hitting poorly, so while guys like Cordero, Renfroe and Plawecki look awful, but within the context of how poorly the bottom third or half of all hitters are doing, it's not as horrific as it seems. If those guys start showing life, watch out! Another point I brought up on another thread concerns the idea that the Sox are wildly outperforming expectations on offense. Even JD is not really outhitting his expected range by more than 100 points. He's at 1.145, which is not all that far from 1.066 and 1.031- numbers he's put up since 2017. Verdugo .908, Bogey .949 and Devers .910 are all within expectations. Arroyo's .771 seems like an outlier, but he did hit .736, last year. Kike's .728 is just about midrange. Vaz had a .798 OPS from 2019-2020. He's over a 100 below that (.665). Marwin .648, Renfroe .545, Cordero .499 and Plawecki .471 are all way below any expectations. Dalbec was the great unknown and is at .696, but has hit .924 his last 12 games. Nothing really shocking from our offense, IMO. What's shocking is how badly everyone else is doing.
  19. Of course there was. It's not always about resetting and returning to big spending. Our history shows more times going 2-3 years under the line than just one and dones.

  21. Those 10 Ks by Richards kept the ball out of the hands of our defenders, too! No BBs is always a good sign. Suddenly, our rotation looks more promising than just 2 guys and 3 prayers. Pivetta and Richards have show a lot of good signs. Perez may still give us something useful.
