  1. I know this thread is about 2021, but if Sale and Whitlock show they can be solid starters in 2022, maybe we can do this... Extend Barnes Sign a RP'er like Ottavino or Hand Sign Kris Bryant Move Devers to 1B Keep Dalbec as a possible future DH, 1B, 3B sub. 1. Verdugo LF/CF 2. Bryant 3B/LF 3. JD DH 4. Bogey SS 5. Devers 1B 6. Renfroe RF 7. Duran CF/Dalbec LF/1B/3B 8. Vaz 9. Hernandez CF/2B/Arroyo 2B/Cordero LF/Dalbec
  2. I think defense. How s***** it is.
  3. I'd offer him a fair deal that brings him past his final arb, but nothing real large and long. To me, Devers is #1 priority lock down.
  4. It's what they do. The things that don't show up in glitzy stats or any at all.
  5. He did not look great in the first, but he looked good enough to get out of the inning without a run- had we had a decent defense.
  6. It's not like the balls thrown were big misses. I thought 2 were strikes to Franco. Chopper hit to Bogey. Two errors. 0 ERs. Look, the guy has sucked, but he did not look bad in the first.
  7. Nobody is a good pitcher when the other team gets 5- 6 outs an inning.
  8. He wasn't talking about Sox pitchers, was he?
  9. I was never that high on Johnson, and I don't think anyone ever saw his ceiling as being any higher than a 4-5 starter I remember being high on Henry Owens and Anderson Espinoza. While Groome has been the #1 Sox prospects a couple times, and the last Sox pitcher to reach #1 on soxprospects.com, I never was very high on him, either. Even now, I like Bello and Song more than Mata, Ward & Groome.
  10. Maybe he finally took my advice and started being a "fan" of another team.
  11. It seems like when the odds look against us, we win. I heard some guy on the local sports talk show picking the Rays as his "pick of the week." I'm thinking we win, tonight.
  12. It makes sense not to make a 40 man roster move over a back-up catcher. Is Plawecki only expected to miss 10 days?
  13. Vaz is already second in MLB in catcher innings.
  14. I guess they aren't ready to DFA Santana, or just didn't want to use a newly created slot for a catcher. I would think Herrmann would have been a better choice. (Bandy, too.)
  15. That's very far off. Just getting an ace would bust the budget and clean out the farm. We are not going to trade away the future to grasp at straws this October. Our best hope is Sale fills the ace role. Brasier and maybe Houck/Bazardo/Ort or someone else steps up in the pen. Duran and or Cordero fill the OF need, and we trade someone like Chavis and Arauz for a decent RP'er or role player (1B/OF?)
  16. True, and if we decide to demote one, Houck would be that guy, assuming Sale is not ready at that time. (Then, the demoted starter would be the long man.)
  17. I'd be thrilled to get him, but I like Davis, too. Rocker would be sweet, too.
  18. Casas just turned 21 in January. Here's a list of all the 20 year old batters in MLB with even 1 PA, right now: _______ _______ _______ _______ Yup, zero. Here's a list of all the 21 year olds in MLB with over 95 PAs, right now: ______ ______ ______ ______ With over 20 PAs: Jarred Kelenic (92) .378 OPS (not OBP- it's OPS!) Tucupita Marcano (50) .485 OPS Jose Devers (46) .621 OPS Since 2011, there have been 31 players at 21 or younger who had 350+ PAs in a season. About half were over .800. 24 had 450+ PAs Trout twice .963 and .988 Soto twice .923 and .949 Acuna twice .883 and .917 Stanton .893 Harper twice .854 and .817 Torres .820 Correa .811 Hosmer .799 Freeman .795 S Castor.773 Odor .781 Guerrero .772 Albies .757 Machado .746 Mazara .739 Devers .731 Heywood .708 Russell .696 Bogey .660 Is there anything about this list that screams out the Sox are holding back their best prospects, too long? (It took Moncada 3+ years and over 900 PAs to start hitting well.)
  19. Like I said, the Ks don't bother me, if he gets on base. His .271 OBP still has a way to go, and it's his slugging everyone loves, but without a decent OBP, he'll never be a big plus. BTW, his OBP was .228 in early May and .237 as recently as June 8th, so.271 is on the way up, up and away! I'm real glad he has bounced back. Let's hope it's for real and for an extended time.
  20. Just like I fell in love with Dalbec's .361 (.371 in 2019) in AA.
  21. Dalbec hits the ball a very long way and has shown way more power than Casas.
