  1. Lots of line outs by Devers over the last few days. Really could have used a hit, there.
  2. On the farm, tonight... Worcester 12-5 Cordero & Chavis both 3 for 4. Chavis with a HR/Cordero a 2B. Wilson 2 for 5 with his 8th HR. Mieses with a HR. Portland 5-4 Meneses with a 2-run 2B Duran 0-3
  3. It wouldn't surprise me, if teams were still stealing signs. The Astros lost 2 draft picks, so maybe they are not one of them.
  4. We've scored 3 runs in 4 innings. How is Odorizzi "mowing us down?"
  5. Devers has been hitting the ball damn hard- even his outs.
  6. It’s not like Bogey is a great defensive SS, and he has an opt out after 2022, so keeping Downs at SS makes a lot of sense, for now.
  7. Agreed. I don’t see us having any serious roster crunch or Losing anyone special to rule 5, this winter.
  8. soxprospects.com projects the newbies to be at these levels in 2022: MLB Franchy Cordero (4 OF) AAA Josh Winckowski (SP) AA Grant Gambrell (SP) A- Freddy Valdez (RF) A- Luis de la Rosa (SP) They also project Downs in MLB, on the bench, Duran starting in CF, Whitlock as one of our 6 starters and Houck in the pen. Casas in AAA with Rosario, Arauz, Pott, Wong and Wilson. They go out of their way to say this is just speculation.
  9. Here is the full rule 5 list: Jecorrah Arnold Brayan Bello Cole Brannen Gary Calvo Marco Cardoso Pedro Castellanos Felix Cepeda Kole Cottam Kutter Crawford Ricardo Cubillan Osvaldo De La Rosa Tyler Dearden Jonathan Diaz Danny Diaz Jeter Downs Jarren Duran Tyler Esplin Durbin Feltman Ryan Fernandez Ryan Fitzgerald Antoni Flores Frank German Rio Gomez Devlin Granberg Gilberto Jimenez Jose Larez Dominic LoBrutto Bryan Lucas Charlie Madden Alan Marrero Elih Marrero Joan Martinez Alexander Montero Robinson Montero Oddanier Mosqueda Brendan Nail Brett Netzer Tanner Nishioka Kaleb Ort Michael Osinski Yusniel Padron-Artiles Aaron Perry Beiker Pineda Antonio Police AJ Politi Ceddanne Rafaela Oscar Rangel Tyreque Reed Jesus Rosillo Yasel Santana Zach Schellinger Alex Scherff John Schreiber Gregori Segovia Chase Shugart Miguel Suero Jake Thompson Wilker Vargas Thaddeus Ward Grant Williams Josh Winckowski
  10. I know. I was just jiving you, but I never was all that high on Swihart. (I'm not thrilled with how Vaz handles the pitchers, either, but the coaching and manager can help that out a lot.)
  11. I know we are in the midst of a playoff run, and we can't keep throwing a sub .600 bat in the 1B slot in the line-up much longer, but we have to find out about Dalbec and Chavis, this year. I doubt we keep both in 2022, if they continue struggling. This was supposed to be the decision year on some of these borderline players, but we done went ahead and started winning, and messed up all those plans!
  12. We might not have a real 40man roster crunch, this winter, but I agree on Casas. People see some studs jumping to the bigs and think anyone and everyone can. Sure, some GMs might wait too long, and the super 2 rule keeps some deserving prospects down, but there is nothing about Casas that screams he is ML ready now or will be in just a couple hundred more PAs. BTW, he is rule 5 in winter 2022, so he likely will be given a shot at some point in 2022, assuming he is deserving of one by then. Speaking of this winter's 40 man roster issues, we do have a few rule 5 players we will or may want to protect. Jarren Duran (if he's not added before December) Jeter Downs Brayan Bello Gilberto Jimenez Josh Winchowski Maybe? Thaddeus Ward Durbin Feltman Frank German Kelb Ort Tyreque Reed Let's say we protect 6-7 from this list. They fill the 6 free agent slots vacated by Barnes, ERod, Ottavino, Marwin, Santana & Workman, leaving us at 39 or 40. We certainly will be active in the free agent market, perhaps hyper active. We will need at least a closer (re-sign Barnes?), a top set-up man (bring back Ottavino?) and a SP'er (ERod back?). Here are the possible trade and DFA candidates currently on our 40 man roster: Trade someone who will be a FA after 2022? I think not. JD (has opt out, this winter), Bogey (opt out after 2022), Eovaldi, Kike, Plawecki or the 2021 team option players: Richards, Perez & Andriese (Sawamura-option after '22) More likely, some players from this list: Brandon Brennan Marcus Wilson Matt Andriese Hudson Potts Franchy Cordero Connor Wong Eduard Bazardo Jay Groome Jonathan Arauz I see 4 or 5 easy names on this list, which might be how many FAs we sign.
  13. This was in an article I read, yesterday: Here's a roundup of expert predictions for the Red Sox's fourth overall pick from recent 2021 MLB Mock Drafts. Carlos Collazo, Baseball America: Jack Leiter, RHP, Vanderbilt Keith Law, The Athletic: Kumar Rocker, RHP, Vanderbilt Jonathan Mayo, MLB Pipeline: Jordan Lawlar, SS, Jesuit Prep (Dallas) Kiley McDaniel, ESPN: Henry Davis, C, Louisville Prospects Live: Jack Leiter, RHP, Vanderbilt Michael Dault, Through The Fence Baseball: Jack Leiter, RHP, Vanderbilt
  14. Others said trade Swihart, because we had Vaz. Wish we'd have done that, while his stock was high.
  15. Winckowski was even invited to spring training (and did well). He will likely be in AAA by the end of the season. The others are more "long shots," but they have the tools and are more promising than many other low level players. The money saved allowed us to sign Renfroe. I would not trade Renfroe for Beni, right now- straight up. Our farm was weak and thin. You can't fix it with magic.
  16. If I had to guess, Duran comes up sometime between the end of the Olympic games and September. Casas between June 2022 and September 2022. Downs & Bello September 2022. Jimenez, Yorke & Aldo Ramirez maybe 2023. Seabold maybe as soon as he's he's healthy.
  17. No, but I'd like to see Chavis get at least one more long look, this year, and maybe we can decide, once and for all, if he deserves a 40 man roster spot, this winter and in 2022. I hate leaving these borderline players in limbo- never knowing one way or the other. If we can pick up a better 1Bman without losing anyone too promising, bring him on!
  18. We go to Maine every summer, so we miss the hottest month, but yes, it's over 90 everyday from June 1st to October 1st, and in the 80's and 90's most of May and October. The long hot summers rival Maine's long cold winters- both are 4-5 months long..
  19. Several factors: 1. The super 2 team control rule (that date just recently passed) 2. The Olympic team commitment. 3. He just changed positions, recently and does not have that many games in CF under his belt. Reports are he is still learning the position. 4. Players like Cordero & Kike deserved long looks in the OF. 5. Not all .900+ hitters are sure bets to do well in the bigs, especially right off the ground running. 6. We don't know what Bloom & Co. know. Why not trust they know more than we do? Can they be wrong, at times? Sure. Either way: too early or too late.
  20. Yes, it counts, but the sample size is tint, and Dalbec needs a change of scenery- quick. Why discount my most recent small sample sizes on Dalbec but us them against Chavis?
  21. MLB Only Dalbec .717 Career (265 PAs) .595 2021 (173 PAs) .657 last 28 days (65) .618 since May 8th (the day Chavis was called up) Chavis .730 career (573 PAs) .758 2021 (33 PAs) .667 last 28 days (24) .758 since May 8 (his call up date in 2021)
