  1. Who? Cordero, Ort or Marcus Wilson? (LOL)
  2. Workman is the whole key to our fortunes. When we called him up, everything changed for the good.
  3. There’s lots of players we wanted instead of the ones we got, and most are not doing very well or worse than who we got, instead.
  4. Houston is down 4-0 to Baltimore. TB already lost big to WSH. Ride this one out, guys!
  5. Cordero did not look all that great on defence in the OF, so it seems like a good idea.
  6. Here's a look at some of the big wins by the leading run differential teams: +130 HOU 15 games to reach 130 run differential (16-2, 13-0, 13-1, 14-3, 12-3, 11-2, 10- 2, 10-2, 9-1, 8-1, 8-1, 9-2, 10-4, 10-4, 8-2) +84 TBR 11 games to reach +84 (13-3, 10-1, 9-1, 13-6, 12-5, 9-2, 8-2, 7-1, 7-1, 7-1, 14-8, 7-2) +44 BOS 6 games to reach 44 (11-2, 11-4, 11-3, 9-0, 9-2, 9-2, 8-1, 7-1, 7-1, 6-1)
  7. 1. Kike CF Hotter than hot 2. Verdugo LF Fresh from a day off 3. JD DH Starting to warm up 4. Bogey SS Steady X man 5. Devers 3B Forevers- lock him up! (long term) 6. Renfroe RF Giving us good D & O 7. Vaz C Time to heat up 8. Marwin 2B Still starting a lot. 9. Chavis 1B Getting another long look
  8. I wasn't aware Adames was doing so well. Good example of how these types of moves often do not work out well.
  9. We started the season off losing 18-5. We are not that team, anymore. We did win a couple games 11-1 and 9-0. Some of our biggest losses: 11-3 BAL 11-2 @Hou 7-1 Hou 7-2 Tor 18-4 Tor It's mostly the 1 run wins that hurt our differential. .
  10. Is this a trick question? I'd guess, neither one.
  11. If Santana has not been DFA'd by now, there must be a reason. His numbers look awful, but maybe they still see the hope most of us have given up on, or maybe they just don't see Duran as being ready or Wilson as being a sure step up. I know, I know, anyone can be a "step up" from what Santana has given us so far, but what a player has done in his last 4-6 weeks is not a good indicator of what is to come. That being said, I'd have no issues DFA'ing Santana. I'm just not sold on Duran being the clear pick to replace im.
  12. I predicted 86 wins, but after starting 0-3 vs the O's, no less, I was wondering about 81.
  13. We are still top 5 in the AL in run differential, and I think part of the reason we slipped in differential is because we had some big losses during the 2 week starter meltdown. That's not to say our starters can't go through that again, but it seems like all of them may be coming out of it. Who is the real Martin Perez? To me, I'm not one to think a half season is enough to convince me, he's not who he always was, but looking at just this season, he had 2 really bad starts in mid June that really messed up his overall 2021 numbers: 3.09 ERA over first 11 starts 29.70 ERA in 2 starts in June 1.04 ERA last 2 starts 4.09 ERA in 2021. Same with Nick Pivetta 3.78 ERA in first 12 starts 11.57 in 2 bad starts in June (not in a row) 2.31 ERA in 2 starts in June between the 2 bad ones. ERod 3.53 over first 4 starts 7.63 in middle 9 starts 3.75 last 2 starts Eovaldi has been the most consistent, other than maybe Perez. He had 2 bad starts: May 6 and June 9 3.63 first 6 starts 2.60 between 2 bad starts 1.96 last 3 starts Richards has been a mess, especially with his BB rate (4.3 v 3.3 career before), but he did have one nice and long stretch. After first start of the season: 3.14 ERA next 11 starts (still 30 BB in 63 IP) 9.18 ERA his last 4 starts
  14. Exactly. I really think they do not think he is ML ready, or they don't want to cut Santana loose, just yet (to create a roster slot). The perfect time to call him up was when Arroyo went on the IL. Move Kike to 2B, and play Duran in CF for 10 days or however long it takes Arroyo to return. The did not. I am confident they have their reasons.
  15. I think we have more of an idea on what Kike will give us than Duran. Sure, almost every top prospect has high ceilings and more promise than the team's current under-performers, but we've seen over and over that knee jerk reactions to struggling players is not always a simple choice of replacing them. We stuck with Renfroe, who did poorly for almost as long as Dalbec, Kike and Cordero. Josh Taylor stunk up the place for quite a long time. I could go on and on with examples from past seasons and from other teams. There are two major factors involved with calling up Duran, IMO: 1) Is he ML ready? (He seems to be offensively, but maybe he still needs to work on something. On defense, it looks like he may need more time.) 2) Do we have a position open, where he can play nearly every game? (We do not want to call him up to sit on the bench even half the time) Dalbec is back to looking okay, so Kike ain't playing 1B, except for maybe a game here and there. Kike is one of our hottest hitters and has shown he can hit .730-.780 while playing good D in CF and 2B. Arroyo was on fire, before the injury, so 2B is not really a FT slot for Kike, either. If we call Duran up, and play him 80-90% in CF, it means Dalbec, Kike or Arroyo sit. I'm not sure now is the time to mess with the chemistry all 3 of these guys have contributed to over the past few weeks. Now is not the time to roll the dice. I won't even get into what might happen to Duran's confidence and development, if he's called up and fails miserably in the hot Boston spotlight during a playoff run.
  16. Wilson COULD make this team better. Cordero COULD make this team better. Ort and others COULD make this team better. Part of the equation is keeping all your options open. I'm on board with giving up on Santana, but not Marwin. That leaves one slot, and I'm not sure that slot should go to Duran, or if he's even ready for the bigs. It's not just about how well someone's stat line looks. It's about holes in their game, and how much time they need fixing them. Plus, we are not even sure Duran or anyone else we call up will do better. I was sure Santana would do better than Cordero way back. Ooops.
  17. If Dalbec hadn't started hitting, again, we could have put Kike at 1B, Arroyo at 2B and Duran in CF, assuming they deem him ML ready. Since Dalbec does not his RHPs all that well, and maybe Arroyo needs some extra days off when he returns, maybe they can work out some sort of rotation with these 4 players in those 3 positions. That also leaves Kike available to fill in other positions when they need rest, and Marwin becomes what he always should have been: the highly flexible player you leave on the bench as long as possible, and whose flexibility allows Cora to sub, PH and whatever during the game, knowing he has just about every position covered late in the game. Marwin could also be a late inning defensive replacement.
  18. This also shows how K rates do not always influence production.
  19. When you are starting to pitch a whole new pitch at this point in the season and his career, and it being a 67 mph curveball at that, it’s more than just something in his head.
  20. Not on defense. Plus, we are not talking about mid season positional changes
  21. I’ve thought Boone and Cashmsn should have been canned long ago. That being said, Cashman built a team everyone thought was much better than this. The lefty unbalanced thing may be overblown as the lefty-righty splits are about equal. GMs are ultimately judged in hindsight and this is no different.
  22. It’s hard to know what teams will do, and some may be putting up smoke screens. I hope we get Leiter, but I doubt he drops to us. I’d be thrilled with Davis or Rocker, but would not mind Jobe.
  23. I can’t see Dalbec remaining a minus on defense. Maybe by the end of the season he’ll be plus..
