  1. When all our starters went down the toilet, to put it nicely, we heard people saying it was because of no more sticky fingers. What explains the turn around for 4 of the 5?
  2. I rarely use my phone. I'm a stone age lap topper.
  3. So close to a crooked number!
  4. Don't look, now, but all our SP'ers not named Garrett have done well in their last start or two. How does this fit the narrative on "sticky fingers" now cleaned up?
  5. Crooked number time. Our leadoff hitter GOT ON BASE!
  6. 97 I bring him out to start the 8th, but it's a close call. I'd pitch Ottavino for this 9th inning, depending on the match-ups.
  7. So, the ump can now actually see the pitches?
  8. Following the pattern of our back-up catcher getting more from the staff than Vaz. Yes, small sample sizes. Yes, scattered and unbalanced sample sizes pitcher by pitcher. Yes, the vast majority of pitchers did better with almost anyone else (except Swihart).
  9. It's the Hunter, Bogey & Nate show.
  10. His OPS after 2 games was 1.333. It was still over 1.000 after 6 games and at .791 after 8 games. Near total freefall in his last 15 games. Yes, 15 games to determine all we need to know about him, right?
  11. Could it be that maybe we are wrong about thinking smaller sample sizes should be used to make long-lasting choices? It's easy to look back and say, we gave Cordero, Dalbec and Santana (funny how nobody mentions Marwin) too much time. But, what about Renfroe's poor April? Had Bloom & Cora gave up on him, we'd never have known what we missed. Hell, there was a poster talking about sending Devers down in April (not knowing there was no "down" as AAA started in May).
  12. Sadly, not everyone agrees on Bloom being the best get. The Pivetta deal does look like his best, but the Ottavino deal is looking better everyday. If we go back 2 years, some might say the Verdugo deal was the best
  13. Let’s set these guys way back!
  14. I guess this doesn’t fit the narrative of Bloom being clueless.
  15. Isn’t getting swings and misses at a variety of pitches a good thing?
  16. The point was always it was a good free agent contract not a trade for contract. As the years went on it became a good contract, as in under top FA contract money.
  17. Between last year’s trade deadline and the start of 2021, Bloom has added a lot of good players at mostly low or not extreme prices. Sure, we can highlight the Andriese & Santana deals or complain that Kike is 40-50 points below expectations at the 40% point in his first of two seasons, but to me, he’s done a fantastic job readying this team to springboard back into serious contention while giving us a pleasant surprise “bridge year.”
  18. Illinois is dead on accurate.
  19. 450+ PAs in a season Worst Sox OPS .573 Hoffman '82 .589 T Pena '92 .593 Doyle '76 .596 Doyle '77 Marwin is on pace for 450 PAs and a .565 OPS. His defense doesn't come close to making up for that, and the flex added on, not either.
  20. It's hard to even count Santana, except to blame Bloom for calling him up. He was a depth signings for the minors with a ML opt out. Andriese is not making all that much, barely over 2X min wage. The Sawamura deal ($3M/2 yrs w option) cancels out Andriese. alone. Signings over $2.5M... $3M/1 Marwin- meh $3.1M Renfroe (w 2 arbd to go) Excellent $5M Perez (w option) Very good $7M x 2 Kike- Meh $10M Richards (w option) looked ok for a while, then...
  21. I just get the feeling 4 runs is not enough, tonight.
  22. Perez has been a plus. With great D, he'd have a 3.75 ERA.
  23. He can play 1B or maybe 3B, where range is not as important.
  24. True, there have been some line drive hits, but just some average D and umpiring, would have helped a lot.
