  1. I’m for cutting Andriese, yesterday. Keep Rios and bring up Houck to start for Richards. IL Richards or demote to the pen. I’d even start an opener over Andriese and seriously stretch out Whitlock- something they have not come close to doing.
  2. I like Marwin on the team, too- as a defensive replacement and spot starter, just not 450-500 PAs, please.
  3. We may end up losing the season on defender, but Marwin ain’t winning it for us.
  4. I have never said Marwin will or even should be DFA'd. One point was, he never gets the grief others hitting 150-200 points higher are getting. Another point was about the fact that he should not be 3 PAs away from 8th on the team. He should be more of a late inning defensive replacement who starts when a player needs a break or there is nobody better. Look, I was fine continuing to play JBJ when he was having long stretches of .500 hitting, or worse, but Marwin is no JBJ on defense.Yes, he has player very good D, this year, but he is not known as a great defender, and not enough to warrant getting 450-500 PAs, like he's on pace getting. He's better than Santana, who should be DFA'd any day now and probably Chavis, who might be on his last chance with the Sox. The Arroyo & Kike injuries forced him to play more than maybe he would have, but 450-500 PAs? Sorry. I don't like that.
  5. Why Rios? He's pitching well. (Put Richards on the IL.)
  6. I agree, and if his comp is someone like Oswalt, how can someone take a chance that Jobe will be better than Oswalt? (Maybe they don't see Leiter being an Oswalt.) I can see taking a position player as being "safer," but I'm not sure HS position players are safer than proven college pitchers.
  7. On the farm, today. Our old friend Blake Swihart scored 4 runs against us, and Worcester lost 8-4. Cordero 2-4 Herrmann 2-4, R de la Guerra 2-3, HR, BB Duran 0-4, BB Ort 1 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 1 ER Portland won 5-1. Castellanos 2-4, HR Potts 1-4, HR Greenville lost 9-5 Gambrell got shelled Reed hit his 9th, Dearden his 8th and Sogard is 6th. Salem won 11-10 Jimenez 2-5 Lugo 2-5 Davis 3-5, 2HR, 2B All 9 batters got a hit
  8. I like your post game quips. Keep 'em coming.
  9. CBS/MLB Mock Draft 6/25 1. Mayer 2. Lawlar 3. Jobe 4. Leiter 5. Davis 6. Watson 7. Rocker Callis has us getting Lawlar; Law has us getting Davis; Zielinski has us getting Davis; Collazo & McDaniel have us getting Leiter.
  10. I agree. Davis is close to Leiter, but Leiter is #1. I'd pass on the HS SSs. Rocker is my #3. I have a sense one or more of these 3 will fall to the 4 slot.
  11. Yes, I'm not saying he wasn't one of the worst of the bunch, but to me you either did it or you did not. I'm not sure how the degree of how much you used it matters. Maybe it helped him more than others, and that's why he's having a harder time adjusting to not being able to use it. Certainly, that could be the main reason for his recent meltdown. My point was about him showing wild streaks all year, even before this recent stretch. There is a chance his looking extra bad, recently is not all about the loss of sticky fingers.
  12. Kike & Chavis for Torres.
  13. There is also a good chance he's made some meaningful adjustments by then and is not viewed as an offensive liability.
  14. For a while, it looked like just about everyone was suffering from the sticky fingers crackdown. I'm not sure it was all related to that. Richards was wild and unpredictable before sticky fingergate. His leash is shortening with every piss-poor start.
  15. That's the best bad news you've pointed out all year.
  16. Robo umps is not a computer game. Having 100% consistent calls on balls and strikes would legitimize the game and create a level playing field whereby players don't have to guess and study who the ump is each night and adjust their approach accordingly.
  17. Why wait for the AS break?
  18. Keep the mojo risin'
  19. I felt like this was going to be a bridge season, where we'd be afforded the opportunity to find out a lot or even enough on several players, so we could decide who stays and who goes and maybe a couple players who still need more deciding on going into next season. Dalbec- the obvious one. We all know 2020's sample size was too small to get all gah-gah over, but enough to think he deserved a very long look-see. The Sox being in the heat of a playoff run have run into a problem giving Dalbec a long enough look to really know, if he's a keeper. He's had a pretty long look, but the leash is short. It's my feeling next year should be even tougher to give him a long look, if he is still struggling. I'd like to know- one way or the other- this year, but I realize we may not be in a position to keep playing him as much as we have been. Chavis- I felt this would surely be the season we HAD TO FIND OUT, if he was a keeper or not. With he and Dalbec being a bit redundant, I certainly felt this year was the year to decide which one goes (or moves to a new position, if they both did well). Arroyo, Arauz, Munoz- We had to find out, if we had an in-system solution to a position we have had trouble filling since Pedey. Arroyo's 2 IL stints have hampered his playing time, but he seems like a keeper. He may not be great enough to block Downs, but I think we can afford to wait it out on Downs without going for a bridge player. Devers- Can he stick at 3B. Cordero- Can he stay healthy? If so, can he bring production to all the promise and 5 toll skill set? He did get a pretty long look, but not really enough to decide anything. Now, the issue is, if we keep playing well, can we afford to give him another long(er) look, this year or next. Renfroe- Question answered. Verdugo- Question answered.
  20. We don't need 5 second basemen. Arroyo and Kike can play SS, too. Marwin is not all that great on defense, but he has looked good, this year on D.
  21. He since relented and only disallowed chocolate ice cream.
  22. 3.75 ERod's ERA over the last 2 starts!!! 1.04 Perez last 2 starts 1.93 Eovaldi last 3 starts. (2.55 last 6) 2.31 Pivetta last 2 starts.
  23. Updated OPS The big for may now be the big 3. .948 Bogey- What a solid bat he has been. .926 Devers forevers- lock him up, long-term .902 JD- hoping he can heat it up and stay over .900. On the way up/on the way down. .777 Verdugo- Lots of clutch hits but sliding downwards (.726 since 4/28) .774 Renfroe- On the way up- 1.011 since May 26th. .756 Arroyo- Was on he way up before the injury. In need of improvement .690 Kike- Not too far from his career and recent "norm." .684 Vaz- Would be nice to see him get back to near .800. .668 Plawecki- On the IL .664 Dalbec- Was over .700, then this... .661 Chavis- This could be his last look-see, Scary bad .559 Marwin- 9th on the team in PAs (almost as much as Dalbec). .501 Cordero- Still on the farm. .485 Santana- And that's after a 2 for 4 day.
  24. All it takes is two losses in a row, and half this board goes bananas.
