Are we calling up the wrong guys, or do we just have guys that only do well in the minors?
On the farm, today, after our teams went 5-0, yesterday.

Jimenez 2-4
Decker 2-4 w HR
Northcut 2-4 w 2 RBI
After winning 13 in a row, the Yanks have gone 2-6.
The worst I can come up with on the Rays is 2-3 in last 5.
OAK is in freefall going 4-10 in their last 14 & 6-14 in last 20.
On the flip side...
SEA is about to win 5 straight and 6 of 7.
TOR has won 4 straight and 7 of 8.
BOS has won 7 of 11 and 9 of 14.
They yanked him in the August 31st game, so assuming he has passed all subsequent protocols, September 9th? (Maybe the 10th?)
Arroyo's last game was 8/26. He must be real close.
Lots of chances:

3rd: man on 1st 1 out and 2nd with 2 out
Plawecki fly out
4th: 2nd and 3rd and 1 out
Arauz fly out/ Schwarbs Ks
5th: After JD's double & Plawecki's rbi single- 2nd & 3rd 2 out
Dalbec flies out
6th: After JD's 2 run HR, Verdugo 2Bs - 1 out
Plawecki & Sahe ground out.
7th: Motter walks with 1 out and gets picked off

JD & Verdugo ground out
9th: Plawecki lead off single
1-2-3 outs
Every inning, we had opportunities lost.
While true, we haven't really had many classic one inning save opportunities where we are up 1 or 2.
We've needed 2-3 inning saves or someone to come into the 9th with a 3 or 4 run lead and not blow it.
We have 4 naturally scheduled days off coming up, soon.
I agree. No extra days off for anyone from here on out. As far as I acn see, we'd only need the 5th starter twice the rest of the way.
That might give us the edge we need by using just Sale, ERod, Eovaldi and Houck for almost every remaining game and having Pivetta in the pen, when he returns and is not starting those 2 games.
We are the tipping point on COVID. One more key player, and we could be toast.
I'm hopeful the rest will bring back a better Bogey- wrist healed and all.
We have a lot of days off in the middle of September.
We need to stay focused, play our best players and stop this 6th starter thing.
I'd try Seabold in Pivetta's slot, but no promises we do any better than what we just tried. Maybe we don't need a 5th starter until SEA.

TOR still has 7 games with the Twins and 7 with the O's, but the rest is very tough:
7 NYY
6 TBR
They start an 8 game road trip tomorrow at NYY for 4 then 4 at BAL.
It's kind of amazing we were in this game until the 9th with Plawecki batting 5th and Shaw 6th, plus a couple clowns at middle infield.
That's not even looking at who we pitched.
Now, it looks obvious.
At the time, I do not think it's a clear choice, no.
Valdez has not been bad, and he only threw 22 pitches, yesterday. Hell, Ottavino throws that to 2 batters,
Way too many.
It seems like the same pattern keeps happening. A guy like Dalbec gets two nice hits and is stranded, then whe he gets up with men is scoring position he strands them.
I'm not blaming Dalbec, but my point stands.
Before that we'd see 3 solo HRs in a game.
It's too many lose-lose choices Cora has to make.
It's actually amazing how many lose-lose choices he made, today that actually worked, and then when the last one fails, it's all on Cora.
What best relievers?
There is only one: Whitlock.
Sure, he could have brought him in down 1, but that is certainly not the clear call, until after you see Valdez implode.
