  1. Funny. I said "Maybe don't pitch Sale on Saturday," and you screamed "all hands on deck!" You are all over the map.
  2. He's their #1 prospect. They got him with Galsnow and Meadows for Archer.
  3. I like R Iglesias, but I'm not sure he will slide under anyone's radar. He'll be costly, and I am generally against paying high for RP'ers.
  4. I think ERod might look at his second half and say, "I can do that for all of 2022 and land a mega deal," or he might worry about injury, COVID-related relapses or just plain old decline or off year and take the longer term money secured. If I were him, I'd turn it down. GMs see his second half and 2017-2019 numbers and will pay him well.
  5. Playoff Standings WC1/WC2 91-69 NYY +1/+2 90-70 BOS -1/+1 89-71 SEA -2/-1 89-71 TOR -2/-1 (OAK is eliminated) 1:05 TBR (S Baz RHP) @ NYY (Montgomery LHP) 3:07 BAL (Means LHP) @ TOR (Manoah RHP) 4:05 BOS (Houck RHP) @ WSH (Josiah Gray 5.85 RHP) 9:10 LAA (J Diaz LHP) @ SEA (Flexen RHP) The Yankess game will be almost over by the time we are in the first or second inning. We may know about Toronto before our game ends, but we need to just focus on us: win (2) and we're in. One at a time!
  6. Weaver knew his s***! I'm not sure who said this, but I like this one, too: "A pitcher is only as good as his last start." (Although this one does not always ring true, either.)
  7. He might think a great 2022 could land him a much better deal in 2023, but then again, he'll be a year older.
  8. The one year, low-risk aspect of the QO carries a lot of weight. If we do offer him a QO, and he takes it, I'd still want us to add a better starter than he is.
  9. As much as I hate to use tiny sample sizes to change my position, his whole sample size as a RP'er is so small, it's a tough call. I'm leaning heavily towards a no on the option, but we could offer him something more reasonable. I wonder if his agent tries to market him as a starter or RP'er or both.
  10. He's there as "ERod"
  11. In all fairness, they may have optioned him to add an available pitcher even if he had done well, last night.
  12. One big question is Sale. Using him, today, would be on short rest, but we are in a near elimination game mode. We could "save" him to finish off Eovaldi's game, tomorrow, and even hope against hope that he wouldn't be needed tomorrow and could start the WC game. Whitlock is apparently ready, but he's been out a while, so I'm not sure you throw him into a high leverage spot, first game back. The problem with that is who else gives us more confidence? Perhaps surprisingly, Brasier has been our go-to guy, but he has pitched 3 straight nights. The pitch counts have been rather low, so maybe we go to him in a bad pinch. (22, 4 & 10 pitches in last 2 games) Richards willlikely get another look, despite his last 3 games being piss-poor. (1.1IP 1 ER, 1.1 IP 2 ER, 1.0 IP 2 ER) My guess is we hope for 5 IP from Houck but will get 3-4. We'll see DHern, Davis, Sawamura and maybe Perez or Bazardo. The highest leverage moments will be handed to Brasier for a batter or two, Ottavino and Richards, unless they just throw caution to the wind and try to get 2-4 innings from Sale out of the pen. It might depend if we are up 2-1 or 8-1 or down 2-1 or 4-1. Things might get real interesting, today! Big win by the Angels, yesterday and a big reminder that the teams we are down to the wire with are all flawed and teetering on elimination, too.
  13. So, like me, you aren't into the whole "playoffs are a crapshoot" thing.
  14. Very true, and even 15-2 wins don't seem to have any carry-over effect. Just win, baby. One game at a time.
  15. By the way, that win was number 90! NICE!
  16. Still 2-1 LA in the 6th. I can't keep my eyes open. Hope to wake up to read of a loss to the M's, and our playoffs hopes solely in our own hands, again. Hell, there is even a chance we catch the Yanks or pass them!
  17. FA Pitchers by fWAR in 2021 3.4 Stroman 4.5 Gausman 5.4 Scherzer 3.3 Kershaw n/a Syndergaard 3.9 R Ray 3.6 ERod 2.9 Miley 2.6 Matz 2.5 Cobb 2.4 Jon Gray 1.3 Greinke n/a Verlander 1.6 Duffy 1.3 Pineda 1.7 Jansen 1.9 Iglesias
  18. Gotta give props to Ohtani. As a pitcher, he is one of just 34 AL pitchers with 130+ IP. He places... 4th in ERA- (73) 5th in K% (29%) & K-BB% (21%) 6th in FIP (3.54) 8th in WHIP (1.09) 17th in fWAR (2.9) As a hitter, he ranks 25th in most PAs in the AL (626). He ranks... 2nd wRC+ (153) 2nd in OPS .964 3rd in HRs (45) 8th in fWAR (5.1) TOTAL fWAR 8.0 Ohtani (5.1 Offense/ 2.9 Pitching) 6.6 Semien 6.6 Guerrero 6.3 J Ramirez 5.6 Eovaldi 5.5 Mullins 5.5 Correa 5.3 Judge 5.2 Cole 5.1 Altuve 5.0 Bogaerts 5.0 Olson 4.9 B Lowe 4.9 Rodon 4.7 Devers 4.6 Bichette 4.5 Tucker 4.3 N Lopez 4.2 Moncada 4.2 Cease 4.1 Berrios 4.1 Montas 4.0 Polanco 4.0 Lynn 3.9 Kike 3.9 ERod (before tonight)
  19. Angels up 2-1 on M's in the 3rd. (Still 2 on and no outs)
  20. I think Henry will allow some ground-shaking moves, if Bloom thinks they are called for. Henry is the wallet. If Bloom convinces him we can be a top competitor, next year, I think he'll open up the wallet and okay bold moves. The thing about trading Vaz, JD or Bogey is that those trades will likely save money- perhaps just temporarily, but nevertheless, money-savers. If Bloom wants to trade Bogey- the biggest fan darling on the team- I think Henry will go along with it.
  21. You do know the manager is part of a team. You knew Cora is way better than Boone back in March. Did you underestimate the disparity or the difference a manger can make? It's back to 1 game with 2 to go, and it doesn't look like the Rays want you guys in the playoffs.
  22. People are still clinging to the belief the Padres are good. Teams with 89+ wins: 4 AL East 2 AL West 2 NL West 2 NL Central 1 AL Central 0 NL East 83+ wins: 4 ALE 3 ALW 2 NLW 2 NLC 1 ALC 1 ALE
  23. I have few issues with jacko, other than him being a Yankee fan. I don't agree with him on a few things, and of course he has a Yankee bias- like I have a Sox one, but he says a lot of stuff I agree with or makes me think about my positions. I think "troll" is a harsh. We got Sox "fans" saying Cora has to go, this winter. Another has bashed about 35 of the 40 Sox players on the roster- many calls for DFA'ing them. I'm not saying he is never annoying, but he doesn't bother me much.
  24. SEA game in progress... 91-69 NYY WC1 +1 90-70 BOS WC1 -1/ WC2 +0.5 89-70 SEA WC1 -1.5/ WC2 -0.5 89-71 TOR WC2 -1
