  1. I do think a trade makes more sense. As you know, I'm not high on Stroman for what I think he'll get. I'd be willing to trading Casas or Dalbec plus Downs, even with his stock lowered or Duran for the right young pitcher. (I'd want 3 years of team control or an extension as part of a deal. I guess 2 years would be okay for Dalbec and Downs.)
  2. I'm not even close to expecting anything good from Sale, this season.
  3. When they announced HRam, I thought, "Great, we have a 3Bman!" Then Pablo...
  4. If he turns it down, we can sign him as a FA or pocket the draft pick and sign someone else with that $18.6M plus maybe more $$$.
  5. Good point. I'd still rather have a guy like Greinke at $14-16M than the 2021 Richards and Perez at $16M combined.
  6. There is no disagreement over what is going on, now. We both know he is sucking, badly. I was just bringing up the odd fact that he seems to be K'ing more people, the worse he gets. I expect he recovers, next season, but maybe not fully in April.
  7. That's why he was let go, IMO. While I wanted to see him get one more year, with an expected bigger budget, with that FA signing track record, I can see why they went with a proven good big spender in DD.
  8. Short term deal might make him enticing.
  9. Agreed. I guess the real question is who are the top set-up men? Houck Robles Brasier Taylor A while ago, I did a "confidence chart" on our staff that was highly influenced by the recency bias. Here is my updated list: Listed in order of most confidence... Very High Confidence Eovaldi Whitlcok High Confidence ERod Houck Pivetta Moderate Confidence Taylor Robles Ottavino Brasier Low Confidence Sale Sawamura Very Low Confidence DHern Perez Off the Roster Davis Barnes Richards
  10. Think about this for a long time: .365 BAbip. Had it been near .290 to .300, we'd be talking about extending him at $25M x 4+ years. (OK, maybe I'm exaggerating.)
  11. True, and look what he did his last 17 starts: 8-4 3.60 (3.03 FIP) with a crappy D that led to a .348 BAbip Playoffs: 4.97 ERA (0.95 WHIP) and 4th in IP at 12.2 in MLB playoffs 2021.
  12. I'm not sure they were all in on so many farm moves, but not enough to stop him. DD filled the need we had for that time and place. Bloom is the guy we needed after DD.
  13. The Astros had scored 5+ runs in 9 straight games, until ERod and our scrub RP'ers kept them to 3 runs- basically on one bad pitch.
  14. It was meant as a counter argument.
  15. I liked ERod mocking Correa, too- at the time, but when I saw Cora saying, "No, no, no." then hugging him and talking in his ear, I knew what he was saying, and he's right. No need to pump up Carlos. Cora is the man! He's in total control, and he's got this team right where they need to be at the exact right time. Locked and hyper focused. Hell, they are even fielding better! (It was hard for me to say that!)
  16. GMs love one year deals. The risk is minimized. Also, ERod has a lot of incentive to have a career year on a QO season.
  17. Devers outhit JD and Boegy and is still pre-prime, yet you don't list him as a "good bat." Hmmm.... Devers forevers. Lock him up- long term.
  18. For a one year deal, it seems like an obvious choice.
  19. Down the stretch, he hit both handed pitchers very well.
  20. Seems like more posters are warming up to the QO offer idea for ERod. Just 2 games.
  21. He seems to be learning the position pretty quickly. Great attitude, too.
  22. I could be way off. I'm bad at predicting contracts for FAs, but my guess is Stroman gets a deal 20% or more larger and longer than ERod.
  23. Maybe the list is over 40 long!
  24. I don't think so. He did well with the big budget and farm trades. What surprised me most was how well he drafted. I did not think we could find so many good players so late in the draft. That is part of the reason our arm bounced back more quickly than I thought it would. Bloom helped with his trade-offs, last summer (Pivetta to name one) and the high draft picks from having a crappy 2020 helped, too. We still have a way to go, but it looks like we are on the right track. I will not be surprised if Bloom makes a big splash trade with a vet or with someone like Casas, especially if we sign or extend Schwarber.
  25. So true. We might have had 2 blowouts in a row during the season, but if we did it must have been long ago.
