  1. Agreed. The uncertainty of injury might make Devers jump at a big guaranteed number that might be low on the open market. I think getting him to sign might be easier than getting henry to agree to over 8 years. To me, Devers is a pure hitter. People talk about his need to change his approach and be more selective, but I would not mess with him, and I have always belived you need a mix of approaches in a great line-up, so you can attack different types of pitchers. Look what this kid just did, one-handed! If any Sox player deserves to be locked up for 9-12 years, it is this 25 year old. It's just my opinion, and I'm not sure Bloom, let alone Henry agree.
  2. Perhaps a third team might be involved, but I have thought of the Astros, Phillies and Yanks. The Giants look possible. A lot might depend on the money aspect. If we take back some unwanted salary (or pay part of his salary), that could greatly increase the pool of teams interested. I think it comes down to some GM really wanting him and thinking they can and will extend him. I'm not sure that man exists. I just hope we don't lose him for a draft pick ONLY.
  3. Exactly. That's important to us old men.
  4. That's hard to know. I kind of doubt it, but Devers looks special and is so damn young. He just turned 25, two days ago. A 10 year deal would bring him to age 34! (JD's age) 12 years would bring him to 36. Henry did okay the Price deal, and he was much older than Devers. I'd guess no, but I think it's a close call on a 9-10 year offer by Henry. (hard to know these things.)
  5. Raising his trade value.
  6. Jurgenson. Look up some old films.
  7. I remember showing my flip phone to my students, and they laughed at me. They were asking how it worked, as they put their fingers on the tiny screen to try and make the image get bigger.
  8. I have sold some for a handsome profit, but I've kept my faves. I have the Beatles White Album in white vinyl.
  9. If it includes his 2 arb years, maybe $270M/10 or $300M/12 with an opt out after 8-9 years.
  10. Ones known to be cheating by evidence.
  11. Someone will always seek better and better.
  12. I would think about a very long deal (10-12 years) for Raffy. At his age, it would be worth adding extra years to give him extra security, but also lowering the AVV. Give him an opt out after 8 year.
  13. Yes, and I am someone who is very slow to adapt to technology. I was still buying albums when CDs were popular. I still had a flip phone until just a few years ago and hardly ever use my cell phone, now.
  14. The ones caught. Fines. A few game suspensions. More for what the Astros did. Look at the Astros numbers that year. It's sick! OPS in 2017 (2016/2018) .957 Altuve (.928/.837) .941 Correa (.811/.728) .907 Marwin (.694/.733 .889 Springer (.815/.780) .847 Reddick (.749/.718) .827 Bregman (.791/.926) .817 Gurriel (.677/.751) .815 Marisnick (.588/.674) All but one player had a better season before or after. Look at the massive disparities between some of these numbers. Not one was punished. Many got fat contracts afterwards- or fatter that they deserved.
  15. True, and to me, I would not outbid anyone for them, either.
  16. Thanks for the compliment.
  17. I think all players involved in cheating should be punished to some extent. They make a lot of money when they do better, so it's not just about the team telling them what to do. They are doing it for themselves, too.
  18. Good read.
  19. Exactly. The owners will use COVID and lost revenue as an excuse to demand give-backs.
  20. It took centuries to adjust to the change of using horse.
  21. ...and no horse ever bucked a rider/
  22. It is silly to think every innovation and technology based system is fraught with problems, delays and malfunctions. The thing about this idea is that the ump is still behind home plate. If for some reason the system breaks down, the ump just makes the calls himself, until it's fixed. There really should be no delays. I don't think this is as complicated as you think it is. I could be wrong, but I don't want to bore you my random thoughts.
  23. I think we offer ERod the QO, and if he declines, we won't outbid others for him. I'd love to get Semien or Baez, but I still think pitching is our top priority. The problem, to me, is that I don't see any studs I'd sign large and long, so I hope we go for moderate- cost quality to bridge us to the next FA class or to any young pitchers we have that step up their game. I really like Bogey, despite my issues with his defense, but I would not pay him as much or more than some other SSs on the market that play better D and hit similar to him (Semien?) I also like Schwarber a lot, but other areas have a higher need. If we can trade JD, I'd sign Kyle in a heartbeat.
  24. This is said every time. One could also say owners will be making a big mistake, if...
  25. Maybe. I'm not sure what the rules were. I don't think that was as bad as trashcan signalling, but if it was against the rules, then we should have been punished, too. (Not just coaches)
