  1. I wasn't thrilled with Richards or Perez, either, I liked the Beni trade, a lot. I loved the Kike signing.
  2. It might be a long time before we get anything new to talk about. This work stoppage sucks. I've been losing my love for MLB- not the Red Sox- but almost everything else having to do with MLB. I barely watched more than 2 innings of this year's WS. A long work stoppage won't effect my love of the Sox, but I might totally write off the rest of MLB.
  3. I think some moves are about the long term and some (mostly all the one year deals) are for the short term. He seems to really strive for balance, and the short term part worked pretty well, this year, so it is hard to be overly critical of each move one-by-one. That being said, I'm scratching my head on the totality of Bloom's moves, so far- not just each one-by-one. I'm trying to stay optimistic that Part 2 of this winter (or maybe Spring or summer) hot stove will be more promising in my eyes (not that my eyes matter to Bloom or that my opinions are more important or valid than Bloom's.)
  4. There are huge differences. The biggest being players can't choose what boss to work for until the time after most players are out of baseball. There are other things, too. Yes, the owners make the lion share of the profits- that is not much different.
  5. Good points. It’s a unique business, and the secret financial situation of most teams makes bargaining difficult.
  6. Even counting inflation? They aren’t outspending everyone else anymore.
  7. Keeping Whitlock out of the rotation might keep his future arb costs down, but that should not be a factor. To me, I'd rather sign starters at a higher cost than 3 RP'ers at lower costs. Staers seem a bit more predictable, but I have no data to support this feeling.
  8. Was the reported finalist on Baez a mirage?
  9. The A's are seriously looking at reducing spending. I know they like the fact that Montas has 2 years, and they'd prefer to trade Bassit ot Manaea, but dumping Piscotty would be a big thing for them. Us paying $14M of JBJ's deal makes him cheaper than Piscotty, and they can trade him much more easily, with the cost reduction. All this being said, I think the A's hang up without even a rebuttal.
  10. They got their ring. They got his prime years. Move on...? I doubt it.
  11. I'm thinking this may be the optimistic view, but certainly possible, if not likely.
  12. This is not my prediction, but BTV accepted this... JBJ + $14M Duran Seabold Mata Potts Ward to OAK for Montas Piscotty (salary dump- bats RH'd) Trivino
  13. NO! Sam Kennedy said NO!
  14. Sounds about right. BTV has these values: 50 Casas 48 Mayer 22 Yorke 12 Downs 10 Bello 6.0 Mata 5.4 Hamilton 4.9 Binelas 4.8 Winckowski 3.9 Gonazalez 3.5 Seabold 3.0 McDonough 3.0 Rosario 2.9 Groome (Duran is 20 and Whitlock is 17.)
  15. MLBTR... Prior to yesterday’s announcement, Mark Berman of Fox 26 (KRIV) tweeted a list of teams Correa’s camp has been contacted by at some point this offseason. The Astros and Yankees were teams already known to have reached out, but Berman adds the Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs, and Braves to the mix as well... Boston ended 2021 with a prominent name at shortstop as well, Xander Bogaerts. The 29-year-old Bogaerts continues to rate as one of the league’s more consistent run producers, winnning his fourth Silver Slugger award after a .295/.370/.493 (127 OPS+) showing. Like Swanson in Atlanta, Bogaerts may find himself in his last year of team control if he opts out of the remaining three years on his contract like he is widely expected to do. A Correa pursuit would require some infield shuffling, but would make for an imposing addition to an already strong Red Sox lineup. It would also provide cover for a Bogaerts departure while drastically increasing infield defense.
  16. Where do these prospects fit in the rankings? David Hamilton and Alex Binelas soxprospects.com 1. Casas 2. Mayer 3. Yorke 4. Duran 5. Downs 6. Bello 7. Jordan 8. Groome 9. Jimenez 10. Mata 11. Seabold 12. Gonzalez 13. Winckowski 14. Murphy 15. Bleis 16. Wong 17. Walter 18. Song 19. Ward 20. McDonough 21. Bonaci 22. R Hern 23. Rafaela 24. Paulino 25. Crawford 26. Lugo 27. Hickey
  17. Looks like you do "have time for nonsense."
  18. Then, you woke up.
  19. True nuff. The rumours of Myers being traded go back years.
  20. I'm down with the clown.
  21. That's why I called it winning.
  22. I'd do it, but why would SD?
  23. A winning argument!
  24. If Bloom did not go large for a SP'er, I doubt he does for a LF'er. I think he looks for a platoon type OF'er- maybe via trade. (JBJ & cash for Beni? LOL)
  25. We had Renfroe- not JBJ, as well. Bloom has said he's looking for a RH'd bat.
