  1. Stallings was the guy I made a bunch of BTV offers last winter. Great on D and working the staff for the max. I wish I knew what we offered and what more we might have been able to give to get him.
  2. Still too expensive, and what if he hits under .8oo like he has in 2 of his last 4 seasons. I’d have rather spent on Betts.
  3. If Bloom was right about adding a bat and pen help, we almost have to go over the tax line, unless we trade for cheap players or dump some of our salary somehow.
  4. To me, our most likely trade chips might be... Duran Downs (York’s seems so much more promising though farther away.) Dalbec or Casas Vaz or Wong- assuming we acquire a starting catcher Not sure we can afford to trade Groome, Seabold or Winckowski, unless we get pitching in return.
  5. I get your point about not needing to add another righty to the line—up, but having JBJ, Duran and Verdugo all bst be lefties is not a good plan. Either trade or platoon 1 or two of them, and find a lefty bat for the infield
  6. I think it is obvious. Having JBJ or Duran hit vs LHPs might be worse than letting a pitcher bat. (Sarcasm alert) Verdugo has bad splits, too. )
  7. I think he meant the OF.
  8. There is a ML rule 5 and minor league rule 5. Today was minor league. Ward is on the major league list.
  9. Yes, mlbtr headline read cancelled but it was really suspended
  10. The Rule 5 was delayed not cancelled. This was the minor league portion of rule 5.
  11. I’m not sure what you are asking, and if it is what I think it is, it’s hard to calculate with so many variables involved, including how many contributing min wage guys we have and what positions they play. I think cots has 40 man roster players plus medical benefits at about $18.3M not 20.9. In general, I’d think something like this: 20 for meds and misc players 80 SPers 6+ pitchers 20 RPers 7+ pitchers 90 everyday players 13 players
  12. We’re already near last years AAV total, and Bloom has said he’s not done.
  13. I never said it would be. I hoped it would. I’m thinking had we missed the playoffs it might have been a bigger spending winter. I think the trends show we will go over again, at some point. We’ve never gone 4 years under while Henry has been here, but I guess maybe we could.
  14. Bloom spent $40M last winter, almost all on 1 year deals, but he had about 10 slots to fill. That was more than most GMs spent on 2021 salaries. If he spends $40M on 4-6 slots, this winter, one would think we get better production.
  15. Well said. Maybe doing so well in 2021 made it easier to put off spending for another year.
  16. Henry has a long history of going 2 and even 3 years staying under the tax line between going over it. Why is this any different?
  17. Depends on the ages and recent 2-3 year trends. IMO
  18. I know Story will be cheaper, but those away splits are scary. I’d have preferred Baez over Story.
  19. I doubt it, and we’ll always have some sort of restricted budget. I just would not choose Correa as the guy to have our highest salary for the next 10 years. I realise the guy could go on to be worth every penny and then some, but he’s not “that guy” to me. If it came down to Correa at$350M/10 vs Devers at$280M/10, I’ll take Devers Forevers!
  20. The great thing about Correa is the defense and age. He’s probably got 3-5 years of prime to put up big numbers. What worries me is this: Paying big money for 10+ years for a player who has played 8 seasons and only had 500+ PAs twice whil hitting under .850 in 3 of the last 4 seasons. His .837 career OPS is not great and was fueled by seasons from too long ago.
  21. Yes, in this case, bigger is Richards (10), Ottavino (8). Perez (5). Andriese (1.9) & Sawamura (1.2). Kike $7M x 2 was the biggest non-pitching addition. (Marwin $3M)
  22. Just say no to this Story.
