    He was much better than before and played a full season. He was not "great" His defense fell off a cliff.

    Yup. I do think even they will admit they fell short of their offense additions goal. They probably exceeded their goal on SP'er additions and figured the "excess) (yeah right) could be used to bolster the pen. They did take a pretty big swing (Suarez, Contreras & Gray) and those guys have not done poorly, but the end result is that our offense DID need another big bat. In hindsight, we probably needed two more big bats on top of Contreras. We also needed more pitching, despite what looked like decent SP'er depth, last winter.

    That's the major piece. When you see how close we are to the #5 team, one could also say, if Durbin & Mayer were hitting just .725, IKF at .625 and Chapman, Whitlock & Weissert were closer to their 2025 numbers, we could be tied for the last playoff slot (and still suck.)

    I think the players the Sox locked up were.are decent players, and the money given was not major. It was an attempt to keep some decent to good players beyond their control years with the chance that maybe one or two did real well, and we'd save some. None of these deals have kept us from doing what we needed to do to get much better. Although Bello has sucked, this year, and KC is back on the farm, these guys make peanuts and are not the reason we suck.

    I will say, we seem to do better in games we go into with lesser hopes.

    The one thing I kinda got right about the off season and this season, so far is the point that the AL is not strong, this year, and maybe we could still make the playoffs without being all that good. That's not something I cheer for or am happy about, but it is more fun watching any of my favorite teams knowing they have a shot at making the playoffs, where to some extent, it's a crap shoot. (Note: I'm not a big believer in the crapshoot philosophy, but longshots do get hot at the right time, occasionally.)

    Four batters in today's line-up are in the .500s, one is at .619 and another was at Woo a few days back. It's hard to muster up any feeling of hope, but I'll be watching again, tonight.

    I fully realize top prospects don't always turn into stars or super stars, but we'd seen quite a few decent snf some nationally ranked prospects graduate since 2024 and have 5 in the top 100, now! 2024: Abreu & Rafaela (plus Slaten) 2025: Anthony, Mayer & Campbell (plus Narvaez) 2026: Early Now: Tolle, Arias, Eyanson, Witherspoon & Gonzales That's 11 + 2 honorable mentions

    Wow. I did not expect 5, especially since Early grduated. I thought Tolle might be 20ish, Arias right behind and maybe Eyanson 75th for just 3.

    I do agree, Devers should have been moved to 1B long before the Bregman signing.

    I'm not sure Bennett is better than a pen game. I was just saying who coulda started. I might have gone with Gray on 1 extra day of rest.

    Okay, but Bennett is starting today for Woo- it coulda been for BOS.

    Maybe I could have worded it better, but his numbers since 2025: -7 DRS -11 OAA For a SS, these numbers call for replacement. He was fine on defense before.

    If it works out, it may still have been "needless" or help a little, but it's not bad, if it works. All these deals are still TBD. With what we know about JHY, any deal that "works" and saves something, is a good think- assuming the money saved goes to another addition and not JH's pocket. This only matters if the guy sucks or does great, and the break even range is neutral.

    If he breaks even of better, then the extension was "fine" or better. All of these deals are TBD, so far- some look worse than others, and the worse off ones are being discussed, so I felt it was fair to brig up one that seems to be working, so far. It can still go bad or really bad.

    Are they easing Gray back into the every 5 day rotation? I think Bennet could have started today and been his 5th day, so they might be babying him.

    I think many GMs would view Ceddanne's contract as a plus or as something they would give something of value to get. Cheap teams might trade him in 3-5 years.

    If he does better than his contract indicated, it should be called "fine." It still is very much TBD, but he's already "earned" a big chunk of "value," especially if you use WAR as an indicator.

    Yes, as I said, he might hit .650. (He could be worse.) Others have written off KC already. Most have written off Bello. My point was that of Ceddanne continues as is until his contract ends (still before age 32,) he will be worth the contract or even more.

    Of course Rafaela might hi .650 or worse the rest of the way, but i's been .714 over his last 194 games. It's been .704 since this time 2024 (2 years and almost 1200 PAs)
