Slumping is not quitting. Also, one reason players slump is that they are trying too hard. That's the opposite of quitting. I'm not saying Devers is trying too hard or has lost focus. I don't know. It is "sad," though.

The O's are one game behind being in the top tier of AL teams (top 7). They are 8th, now.

We used to be the butt of jokes for being behind the lowly O's. It appears maybe a few teams may end up below them, including the Jays and Rays.

There are plenty of example by some Bloom bashers that labels a group of those who tend to defend some Bloom moves as extreme loyalist. I think the analogy "stupid sheep" fits the bill on their viewpoints (some not all). Misunderstandings are part of life, but sometimes just trying to get a better understanding by asking pointed questions is met with anger or disdain. I'm not pointing fingers, as I know I have done that, often, too. Making assumptions, jumping to conclusions and reading more into statements than what was there or intended to be there is often the main trigger points on this site and not really the point being made.

He's Rule 5 and not likely to be protected. True, A+ players are not usually protected, but the fact that he won't be protected does not bode well of his future, to some extent, right? Is it too late to be part of the Sox future?

Those that are defending Bloom against the near constant bashing are not saying they are happy with everything he's done and the last place standing of the Sox, this year. Not a singler poster here is "blindly" supporting everything Bloom does. I don't even see a 75 percenter. Some take a longer look and use context more than others. That doesn't make them better or smarter Sox fans- just different from those who only look at the team's current record or trend. Just about any point someone brings up will get push back or blow back- pro or con to Bloom. Some might try to justify the thinking at the time of the deal as a way to explain why that choice was made. That doesn't mean they are defending the deal as being a good one. It is easy to judge in hindsight, and yes, we fully realize many of Bloom's moves were criticized at the time they were made, too. I'm think I'm included among what some call a blind or Bloom loyalist, but I hated the JBJ trade when made, and said so. I hated the Diekman signing and said so. I initially scratched my head at the Story signing and decision to play him at 2B not SS. I'm not sure how that fits into the blind loyalty narrative, but maybe there is a strawman out there that has been more "loyal" than I.

We won't ever know. So, let's say we kept Betts at what the Dodgers paid and still cut the budget in 2020 to the same amount. Speculate on how we do that. Who else do we trade with Price to dump his salary? If we keep Price, how do we dump over $40M and that's not counting any additions. Speculate on where that leaves us in 2021 and now... (Note: I wanted us to extend Betts, so I'm not being a pain in the ass, here.)

So, GMs should make all choices based on the average Joe fan's beliefs? LMAO!. Every decent GM values the farm immensely, even if just as trade pieces. Keeping the farm strong is essential to winning. Even the mega budget Dodgers strive to keep their farm strong and deep.

The Sox get bashed for holding off promotions for too long. They get bashed for giving young players too short a look or too long a look. On Duran, his defense was exactly what many of us feared and pointed out it would be. His bat has looked worse than many of us expected, but he only has about 300 PAs. His splits point to some slight hope he may be able to be a decent platoon bat, and maybe his D can be hidden in Fenway's LF, but I don't see counting on him for anything except possible minor league depth with some potential to improve. I think going into 2023 planning on a Pham-Duran LF platoon is a waste of a roster spot, but if we upgrade at all the other key positions, I think that might end up being a possible solution. I just hope it is not our winter plan for LF. I'd prefer we use Dugo in LF and add a CF'er and RF'er with ref as the 4th OF'er.

Useless to you, maybe, because you want to avoid headaches, but to others the 4 stats you choose create headaches of their own, as no stat is perfect or a true reflection of the whole value of a player. Is one of your 4 stats- chosen a fielding one? If not, isn't that missing a significant part of a player's true or comparative value? I don't mean to give you a headache over this, but even errors are scored by a human just like the UZR/150 observers and DRS metric nerds are doing, but in a more in-depth manner. BA & HRs are park influenced, strength of opponent influenced and more. RBIs are largely a product or how many runners were on base or in scoring position for one guy vs another. Sometimes, those factor disparities are great. Does it give you a headache trying to make those adjustments in your head, or do you just count Ruths HRs in left-friendly Yankees Stadium exactly the same as Williams'?

That's what I was asking. I always thought "eye test" meant actual observations- live or on TV. If it means looking at box scores, I don't see that as being much different than looking at data or metric spreadsheets.

I get it, too. He deconstructed Richards, Ottavino, Perez, Marwin, Andriese and Santana? Sure, keeping rentals like Schwarber, Iggy, Robles and Shaw made some sense, but at what cost, and even Schwarber has not really earned his keep. I guess the term reconstruction applies to Renfroe- someone he stole at $3.1M signing in 2021. (No credit ever given for obtaining him in the first place.) Farm rebuilding is not "natural." Ask DD.
