  1. Wong jumped 14 slots, Paulino 13 and Lugo 11, plus Perales was NR'd.
  2. Soxprospects.com updated their ranking, but it's not their final EOY rankings: https://www.soxprospects.com/index.html 1. Mayer 2. Casas 3. Bello 4. Yorke 5. Bleis (was 8) 6. Rafaela (19) 7. 3. Yes. he did. Not uncommon.
  4. I'd tell Houck and Whitlock their 2023 roles, right now. Closer: Houck Relief ace: Whitlock
  5. Yes, "good," and I'm getting grief for calling him Okay.
  6. The subject is large and long contracts. 2016 was not part of the contract. You keep insisting on counting 2016 as part of the long term deal. If you want to count prior years, then the Sale deal looks ok, right? (WRONG!) 2017 was just "very good?" Your bar is too high. Out of the top 150 SP'ers in IP from 2017-2020, Porcello placed... 39th in fWAR (7.9 or about 2.0 per season) 10th in IP (Where is your bar, here?) If you go by 1-30 is #1 starters and 31-60 is #2 starters, then Porcello rates to be a solid #2 SP'er in these two key areas. To be fair, these are not #2 numbers, but rather #3 or 4.: 70th in SIERA Solid #3 SP'er 80th in FIP #3 94th in WHIP Solid #4 110 in ERA- #4 For $20M a year, it's not great, but it's not "horrible" or "bad."
  7. Agreed. I'd slot him at maybe #5 or 6 on the 8 man pen, but think he might move up as the season goes on. 1.Houck 2. Whitlock 3. ______ 4. Schreiber 5. ______ 6. Barnes 7-8. Taylor/Crawford/Wink/German/Kelly/Danish/(Bello/Mata/Walter/Murphy/Santos)
  8. I think people expected greatness from both. They got very good results, including top notch defense, which is often not recognized by the average fan. I think there was also some implication with the cell phone and Beer Gate with AGon, but that did not bother me. The .957 to .812 OPS drop from year 1 to year 2, was also a factor. He ended up giving .793 with LAD, so the post mortem didn't help his cause. JD's big rap was missing games with what appeared to be minor injuries, but I always liked him. Maybe expectations were too high after signing him at 31 years old, but he did have a .904 career OPS before BOS. To me, the .824 he gave us should have been expected or exceeding expectations, but the 606 games in 5 years was the major knock on him.
  9. He jumped 3 levels, this year? He was at AA in 2021.
  10. He deserves criticism, and a lot for some moves, but it seems like a lot of the good he has done is minimized and context ignored. He was handed a very difficult situation, where he had to cut $60M from a team already showing serious signs of decline. The budget was severely limited for 2021 as well, and it looked like last winter, too, until late March and the Story signing. The inherited farm gave him Houck and Dalbec over 3 years. I just think 90 win expectations were too high for 2021 and 2022, it's just that 2021's success ballooned expectations for 2022. (Now, we should be on pace for 82-86 wins, and we are not. There are a lot of reasons for that and one is some of Bloom's failures. To me, he's far from the main reason we are where we are, this year. (Cora, too.)
  11. Marwin was 9th in PAs, last year, despite being dumped. He was 7th in PAs in April & May. Refsnyder has 2 more PAs than Santana had. The fact that they did not last the season does not mean they didn't suck. They sucked so badly, they were dumped. Yes, Story's bat was supposed to replace Renfroe's, so if you want to flip Story for JBJ, the scorecard barely changes. To me, Bloom's off season moves were a net plus. It was the returning vets and injuries that killed this team. I find it harder, but not impossible, to lay all or most of the blame on Bloom for that. Yes, I left out Diekman, I had listed him and then edited my post to put in Schreiber, who I had forgotten. (BTW, Diekman did not last the season, like the guys you did not want to count- like Marwin & Andriese.) OK: 2021 Robles> 2022 Robles Rios> Diekman .
  12. Agreed, but he was very consistent in AAA and had a .559 OPS Against in 96 IP. No pitcher in the whole system had a better OPSA with more than 51 IP, yet we called up several prospects before him. including Winckowski, who just turned 24 in June.
  13. Yes, he only declined after the trade. He should be in my "good" category for what he did while here, but had we not traded him, he'd have been firmly in the OK or bad categories for the amount of money he got paid (third highest deal in Sox history).
  14. Just don't tell Hal to can Cashman, PLEASE!
  15. Yes, but 23 is not all that young, and he joined the farm in 2018 and had 118 IP in 2019. The missed COVID season set everyone back, so it's a close call on the age thing. I might be biased, but it looks like some of the big hits against him were on very nice pitches. (Maybe they weren't as nice as they looked on TV, but my eye test tells be he's pitching pretty well, despite the enormous ERA. Maybe, and I stress the word "maybe," this was a good learning experience, and it was still worth it. I sincerely doubt his ego has been shattered or deflated.
  16. Other than JBJ, his additions to a winning team were pretty good. Wacha>Perez Hill> Richards Schreiber> Ottavino Story>Marwin Strahm>Andriese Refsnyder>Santana Renfroe>>>> JBJ It was the carry over roster that s*** the bed (Sale, Nate, JD, Dalbec, Dugo, Barnes, the kid pitchers and to some extent Bogey and lately, Devers.) Blame Bloom for not trading all the returning vets, if you want, but I get a snaeky suspicion, he'd have been bashed more for trying that, last winter.
  17. Boone & Cashman ARE the tailspin!
  18. All-in-all, 1 great 1 good, 2 decent- maybe less than decent. )THe first year was not part of the 4 year deal.) Better than Nate & Lackey's 4 years, especially when counting innings.
  19. He's had some other similar games, but yes, nice to see! E Valdez is starting to heat up (2-4 w BB). Northcut did something very rare for him. 1 Hr and 2 singles! Binelas with a 2B and BB. Kavadas w 2 BB and 2 Ks. (0-3) .753 at AA. Hamilton with his 60th SB on the season! Wikelman pitched well for GRE (4IP 3H 1 ER 2BB 8Ks) Lugo remains red hot (3-5). Ferguson (Vas trade) 1-2 w 2B & 2 BB Rosier (Vaz trade) 2-5 w 2B Salem completed the full Red Sox sweep night (5 wins- 0 losses) Paulino 2-5 w 2B Romero, Bonaci and Meidroth all with 2 hits (Bonaci w a BB) The farm is shaping up nicely as the season nears its end.
  20. Fluke or not: it counts.
  21. Sounded like complaining, which is like crying. Had nothing to do with Bloom.
  22. That's what I call fine mentoring!
  23. I think he'll be affordable (maybe $20M/3) and has been .763 in his last 126 PAs.
  24. It was a 4 year contract. Throw out year 1. Cy Young 1 year 17-7 4.28 another year. His 11-17 year was actually better than his 14-12 year. I'd say okay and better than the 4 years from Lackey & Nate.
