Murphy has really hit a wall. His AAA ERA is now up to 5.88 after getting drilled in the first 2 innings. 6H 3 ER (7 runs: Fitzy and Dalbec with errors)) 2 BB 1 K

As much as I've been complaining about how weak a DH rotation might look, I can't see spending very big on a DH. We need: 1. SP (Wacha? Trade for Lopez or Beiber?) 2. SS/2B (Bogey, Swanson, K Wong?) 3. CF/RF (Nimmo?) 4. RP (several options)

If it doesn't work out, I can just hear the uproar, now. We started this season with a 1Bman having an OPS over .800 and 500+ PAs, and look what happened. Hosmer is good insurance, and we'll probably try to hold onto him for as long as possible or until we feel very confident in Casas.

We could see a rotation of 1B/2B/LF depth as our DH, but not all these guys can fit on the bench, when you go with 13 pitchers: Casas Hosmer (Dalbec-Cordero AAA?) Arroyo EValdez Pham Refsnyder (Rafaela/Kavadas/Abreu AAA?)

Exactly, and I have no issue drafting 10 highly regarded SSs every 3-5 years.

Every teams' farm moves guys off SS on a regular basis.

I'm glad we have Hosmer at the min cost. It gives us some flexibility at 1B and 1B/DH depth, but since he has not option remaining, he will need to play more than just when Casas needs a rest to be worth a 26 man slot. There are a few ways that can happen: 1. Trade Casas 2. Go very light at DH, such as have Hosmer & Pham platoon at DH (Arroyo or EValdez as other options or as part of a bigger rotation.) Another option would be to trade Hosmer, who should have some trade value at his low cost, but then we have just Dalbec as 1B depth in 2024, unless you count Arroyo.

I agree. I'm not for a 1B platoon, right now, but if we have to have a back-up to him on the 26, I'd prefer a RH'd bat, in case we need a platoon, or for when casas gets a day off, it will and should be vs LHP.

To me, if we are going to have a roster spot specifically for back-up 1B (only), I'd prefer he hit RH'd, if Casas is the starter. (No, he does not HAVE to.)

OK, but you said "opposed to the rule", which means you want to have shifting be legal. You want teams to be able to use data to shift players on D..

I do agree that long replay delays are not very enjoyable, but I prefer waiting to watching my team lose on a bad call or two. robo umps will be unnoticeable and quick.

The game will still be full of mistakes- just less by the umps, who if they do their jobs right, should never be "part of the game" itself.

Umm... it seemed that way, since I am into data and am opposed to this rule change. You wrote, in response to my post, Doesn't it seem a tad hypocritical for the people who take their analytics or data or whatever seriously to be opposed to any new rule such as this?

Exactly, but it's not an ideal situation. Team's don't usually keep a guy on the 26, unless they plan on using them for more than every time your 1Bman needs a day off. If he could play another position, maybe. If he could DH, maybe. I don't think he hits well enough to DH. If he can platoon, somewhere, then yes. He had rare revers splits, this year, but he may be good enough to bat v RHPs at 1B or DH, if he can stay over .750 or so. 2022 .693 v R .772 v L 2021 .754 v R .676 v L 2020 .974 v R .613 v L 2019 .781 v R .600 v L Career .810 v R .668 v L The problem at 1B is that Casas bats lefthanded, too. (Enmanuel Valdez bats LH'd, too.) A Pham-Hosmer platoon at DH might reach JD's .765 number in 2022, but I would think we might try to do better.

I'm not passionately against the rule. I'm kind of in the middle but leaning against it.

Okajima was never really a pumpkin before 2007. he wasn't in MLB. He had a nice 2008 season- not as good, but nice. He was decent in 2009, but yes, never the same. -
To me, it has nothing to do with analytics, except for the fact that more data and more teams using it has created many more shifts. I just don't see why making this rule to limit "smarts" in baseball is needed.

We also saw Wake go 17-12 in 31 starts and the start of lester's career. No real need to mention Manny (.881) or Papi (1.006,) because we all can never forget them. Lugo gave us solid D, that first year of his contract, and then injuries derailed his best asset. Let's not forget Coco Crisp's brilliant defense in CF and decent OBP (.330) with 28 SBs. Cora, Hinske and Ellsbury gave us some decent bench help. The pen had some nice depth, that year, too- not many big names, but still....
