  1. Yes, but not great enough to project 6+ years of even near the same, and what GM goes by just the previous season? (Okay, maybe a couple...)
  2. How do you win organization of the year with a crappy farm?
  3. I guess I'm just letting the defeatism that is widespread on this board, and apparently even more so on sports talk radio take hold of my soul.
  4. We aren't signing Judge or deGrom- probably not Turner, Nimmo or Rodon. We might still be in on Correa or Bogey. Like I pointed out before: I don't want 9 x $10M contracts, this year. I don't even see 9 big holes in the 40. I suppose there are 6 x $15M contracts out there, or if we sign Correa, 30-15-15-15-15, but what does that mean? Correa Conforto Contreras Nate Hill and a couple RP'ers that equal 15 together?
  5. It might help his case, if he was really good at playing SS.
  6. The point it, Tommy would and did kick Jimmy's ass.
  7. I get a feeling there will be no "major spending" on pitching. Maybe a trade. Maybe a $10-15M x 3 or 4 year SP'er and a RP'er at $5-8M a year. I'm not seeing how we spend the $90M some of thought we'd be spending.
  8. Oh, now it's 7 years. You got this year thing mastered, (unlike me...lol)
  9. Seems like just 4 years ago! LOL!
  10. I've never known positional guarantees to be put in writing. How about this a new twist on contract wording? If Bogey "plays any other position more than 25% of his starts, he gets an opt out, the following winter."
  11. I'm not sure how much positional talk is tied to the money offered, but it does make a difference on where Bogey will be projected to play for his new team. (See how I did that?) Story got $140/6 at 2B. Let's say Bogey as FT SS would net him $180M/6. Does than mean, if he's okay with 3 yrs and 3 yrs, he should get about $160M/6?
  12. If he is truly insisting on staying at SS for the full contract, he may be the last guy signed. Yes, we can't wait it out.
  13. I would not sign Bogey for more than 3 years as a SS only. It was truly nice knowing you Xander. Lot's of fond memories.
  14. I wish I said that. Oh, wait...
  15. Too many key players are sitting out bowl games, now. I'm not sure what solution can be found.
  16. You could flip him to another team for a non 40 man prospect. BTV has him worth about 10 Flexens!
  17. I'll stir it all up again: we play in a tougher division, so the 13 win gap may be misleading. Also, nice strategic choice on the last 3 years not 4.
  18. It might keep some teams from entering the bidding. If I was a GM, and I told Boris I'd play Bogey at SS for 3 years then somewhere else for the remaining 3-5 years, and he said "NO, SS every year," I'd lower my offer.
  19. Maybe making room for a big splash signing. Maybe for a Rule 5 selection.
  20. It's good to know he'll remain in our system as catching depth. MLBTR; There had been no public indication that Hernandez had been designated for assignment or placed on waivers but he evidently was passed through in recent days. Hernandez will stick in the organization as depth but without taking up a roster spot. With a spot open, the Sox could potentially be lining up a signing but it also could be with an eye towards next week’s Rule 5 draft.
  21. I doubt they match $200M/8 or $180/7, the latter might be a maybe.
  22. Yes & yes, but I'm assuming you dislike the trade, even if we throw in Duran.
  23. You think a farm can be built in less than 3 years? Even if it can, you still expect results on the ML level by year 3? Seriously, can you reply to this? One problem with the plan we are speaking about was that it was never implemented in full. There was always the "try and win now, too" aspect to planning. We never had a tear down-rebuild phase. Many of the trades we made that netted us prospects also included veterans, like Verdugo, Pivetta & Cordero, so expecting better from the prospects we did get was maybe just wishful thinking. Some of the model teams we see winning now, that still have good farms, like ATL, HOU and LAD did not build up their farms in 2 years. The Astros tanked for several years to build their up, but they can now keep winning even when they lose some key free agents like Springer, Cole and Correa. The Braves have shown how to build up a farm and lock up younger players, long term, early on. The Dodgers have found a way to keep their farm strong for many years, but they often buy a high need player rather than trade their best prospects for one, although they still do, at times.
  24. Come back when you have a ring.
  25. Houck and Verdugo for Crawford, Flexen & Winker, and the M's can go sign a SS.
