  1. How about Andrus, Chafin and Fulmer with Houck as the #4? (DFA Brasier.)
  2. We could sign Kluber, Fulmer and the 3 top FA SSs on the market. It's not about money, now. We have $38M and there's only $37M left of decent FAs, at best.
  3. We had no chance for a ring.
  4. Could have offered Bogey $25M x 8 with no opt out, either, and most would be in prime.
  5. Yes, Mookie, Bogey, Devers and nobody else. Don't forget Price at full price. The budget magically is approved to get larger. The farm magically starts producing 3 Houcks a year. Glad you finally gave your plan. A real winner.
  6. I'd rather go with Wacha or sign Fulmer and move Houck to SP'er.
  7. I had a theory that was shot down. Crybaby fans.
  8. It’s one of the dumbest things they’ve done in years. Plus, the could have gone over this winter, although that seems unlikely.
  9. Hey, we get 2 comp picks! Hip, HIP, HURRAY!!!
  10. Why are we counting Greinke? I'd rather have Wacha or just go with Mata.
  11. Unless, Bloom has his eye on 2 SP'ers- one an ace or solid #2 and one like Eflin.
  12. Ronaldo Hernandez is having a great winter in the Columbian League OPS of .932 while hitting .288/.390/.542 with six home runs in 118 at-bats.
  13. Did Sox management let it be known on all the cases of "interest in signing" someone, of was it just the media or agents, in some cases? I do admit, this has become a trend I'm not liking, except when the "interest" was in guys like Heaney and Abreu.
  14. But, then there is the reported mega overpay of Yoshida. Also, we must have outbid others for Jansen, Martin, Turner and Joely.
  15. ...and the "inexperienced" are the best hopes (Whitlock, Bello, Mata, Walter, Wink, Crawford & Seabold.)
  16. I don't disagree, but I'm not sure they've been lying, either, at least any more than normal GM lies. Everything they said about the Bogey situation might not have been lies. Being wrong does not mean it's a lie. Of course, the easier explanation is they've lied and lied, again and again.
  17. Do this and add Kluber or Nate, and I'd feel a lot better. Of course, a Devers extension would put the cherry on top, and while I'm at it, sign Fulmer and DFA Brasier and maybe even Bell would think we should be better than 2022.
  18. I think his D has slipped at SS, but anything to keep Story at 2B is probably worth a try.
  19. Lots of raises and big raises to ex-Sox players.
  20. BTV accepted: to BOS: M Rojas (SS 1 yr) & M Taylor (CF 1 yr) to MIA: Murphy, Dalbec & Duran to KCR: Leblanc (from MIA) & Feltman
  21. It's funny how Bogey wanting to stay at SS ends up signing with a team with 18 SSs on their roster.
  22. I do believe they were not lying when they said they plan on adding 8-9 players. They've added 6: Yoshida Turner Jansen Martin Joely Mills (7, if you count Niko Goodrum.) That leaves 2-3 more additions, and we do have $38M to spend and still reset. SP SS (or RP and Houck to SP) CF/RF I'm not expecting anything earth-shattering, but to me, we only need 2-3 moderate additions to look significantly better than 2022 (which isn't that hard to do.) SS: Andrus, M Rojas, Mateo CF: M Taylor or the like SP: Kluber, Nate or someone like Luzardo or Lopez (maybe taking on AGarcia's salary dump to minimize the return needs.)
  23. I'm scratching my head, too. I don't get the focus on LF and DH, when clearly SS, SP and CF/RF were and still are much bigger need areas. There is still time and money left over, so maybe something b ig gets done, but the FA list is down to 4-5 guys that would help a lot, but are no big WOWs. We did fill the pen needs, well- well enough to be able to move Whitlock to the rotation and still look strong and deep. That filled one of the 2-3 rotation slots needed on day one of winter. I agree on signings that were possible that would not go against the long-range plan. I do wonder about a simple truth about the long term plan: if Mayer and Rafaela are locked into starting positions for 2024, then the plan might have been to sign a SS and CF/RF'er to a one year deal. That automatically precludes getting the best of the best, although some very decent players did sign for one year. It never hurts to add SP'ing, so I won't touch that one. Would Andrus take $14M/1 from us over $33M/3 from someone else? I'm thinking pay Andrus what it takes and insist on the contract not having a no trade clause. Just do it! Or trade for Miguel Rojas and Michael Taylor. No top prospects would be needed, and sign 2 from Kluber, Nate and Fulmer/Chafin. This would still fall short of what I hoped for, this winter, but the skyrocketing prices for top players tampered down expectations a bit, assuming the reset, like I did.
  24. He is there precisely to be promoted, but only if needed- maybe due to an injury or two. He'd be added to the 40 in a heartbeat, if needed. Someone could be DFA'd or more likely, placed on the 60 day IL (Sale, Paxton, Taylor or the middle IF'er who gets hurt.)
  25. Indeed, most don't care or want to care about all the context and nuances of being the Sox GM post 2019. I'm not happy, either, but I though this was all worth the sacrifice that brought us 3 first place finishes and a great 2018 season and ring. The only part I "blame the fans" for, and this is pure speculation, is that we were so afraid to do what was best for the team's long term chances of success that we failed to make trades to get under the tax line or to trade Bogey, before getting nothing for him, due, at least in part to fear of fan revolts. Well, guess what? They revolted, anyway! (And for good reasons.)
