  1. Pitchers can also jump ahead by developing another pitch or gaining velo or increased spin rates. Drohan might not be a good example, but almost overnight he improved his stuff and skyrocketed in the rankings.
  2. Better than the low comp picks we got for just Bogey & Nate. Nothing for JD, Wacha, Hill, Strahm,,,
  3. Agreed. I'd have traded everyone not nailed down for the best offer.
  4. Like who? Who do we trade? To get good pitchers that are not rentals, it will cost us more than Paulino & Jordan.
  5. Has McGuire even started rehabbing?
  6. I hope you are right. I'm watching E R-C, G Gambrell and Paez, too. Maybe Mata comes around.
  7. Like longer controlled pitcher acquisitions? Why rob Peter (Paxton) to pay Paul (newly acquired rental?)
  8. I think several deals get made the day before the deadline, which is more than any other day from opening day to deadline day.
  9. I think, yes, but they would likely be players with experience, especially if we are in the race. A 14th pitcher (Murphy, Walter, Bernardino, Bleier...) A utility guy like Reyes over Rafaela. (DHam or EValdez is likely ahead of Rafaela.)
  10. Me neither.
  11. I like a lot of pitchers. I'd trade a nice package for a guy like Cease- still under contract, but I'm thinking a rental is more likely. I like Stroman, Giolito, Montgomery, Snell or ERod. I might take Verlander, if the Mets pay enough for us to stay under the tax line. Other longer term guys who interest me are... Longer Term (Years) 56.0 Keller (2.3) PIT 51.4 Cease (2.3) CWS 40.7 Burnes (1.3) MIL 36.8 Musgrove (4.3) SDP 35.1 Sandoval (3.3) LAA 27.4 Senga (1.3) NYM 26.6 S Gray (4.3) WSH 24.1 Canning (2.3) LAA 22.4 Sears (5.3) OAK 21.9 Lynch (4.3) KCR 20.0 Singer (3.3) KCR 10.7 Blackburn (2.3) OAK 4.4 S Lugo (1.3) SDP 2.7 Houser (1.3) MIL -34.5 Verlander (2.3) NYM Not sure all are on the market.
  12. He never tried Arroyo at SS, either. I'd prefer we trade Kike not Duvall, and that way Cora's choice will no longer be one. I don't care if we get nothing or have to pay his full boat.
  13. No. It's not like the old days, when you can call up 10 or more.
  14. You crack me up. His last start sucked, so his value drops to nothing. LOL! He had a 2.45 ERA in the 7 starts before this last one. I guess those are meaningless. He had a 3.45 ERA over the 19 starts before July 18th.
  15. I seem to remember deals getting done the day before the deadline, often enough to think we have a chance.
  16. Send LAD Arroyo and they can use Betts in CF. Lol
  17. We have Reyes, now, and he sits rehab but ready to go?
  18. Agreed, but Aug 1 is possible.
  19. That might be the reason, but I think he probably had some other reason. Don’t ask me what. Kike sucks v RHPs. Duran kills righties. I’m not sold on the father-son type friendship being that strong.
  20. Kike’s bat has looked so weak for 1.5 years. He still has value on D in CF and at 2B, but yes, just get a bag of used balls, free up some lux tax dollars to allow us to trade for costly pitching and stay under the line.
  21. I’m not sure why Stroman is a headcase, but I think he’d be fine for a 2 month rental.
  22. I think we will trade for Giolito or Stroman, maybe Montgomery or the like. We may also sell onDuvall and go with Ref and Kike as Rh’d OF depth. We may also trade away somebody they do not see in our long term plans (Dalbec or rule 5 to be guy like Perales) or one who looks like a sell high guy (Murphy or Walter?)
  23. Our likely rotation up to the deadline: 7/23 NYM Bernardino 7/24 OFF 7/25 ATL Bello +1 days rest 7/26 ATL Crawford +1 days rest 7/27 OFF 7/28 @SFG Paxton +1 day rest 7/29 @SFG (Trade) or opener + Pivetta 7/30 @SFG Bello 7/31 @SEA Crawford 8/1 @SEA (trade?) 8/2 @SEA Paxton, if not traded away 8/3 OFF (trade?)
  24. With Verdugo having just one more year of control, and Yoshida looking like he may replace Turner at DH, once he leaves, I'm starting to think Rafaela might move back into my top 5 pr 6 "untouchables." In theory, I don't think anyone is untouchable. I'd trade any of these guys for a 4+ year controlled solid SP'er or highly ranked pitching prospect. I might go: 1. Mayer 2. Anthony 3. Bleis 4. Wikelman 5. Rafaela 6. Perales (He is rule 5 this winter but will not make the 26, so maybe we don't want to use up a slot on the 40 with a longer shot prospect.) 7. Romero or Yorke (We should keep one.) I do not want to trade these high ceiling prospects: Joh Garcia Meidroth E R-C Maybe our top non-untouchables might be: 1. Yorke or Romero (not both) 2. Drohan (His stock is likely falling as he struggles in AA.) 3. Murphy or Walter (maybe not both) 4. EValdez (especially if we keep both Yorke and Romero) 5. Bonaci 6. Jordan 7. Paulino 8. Mata (on 40 man, now) 9. Hickey (The guy keeps hitting and hitting.) 10. D Hamilton (may need MI depth until Mayer is ML ready.) 11. Abreu (see notes on OF needs)
  25. For Law to like 4 Red Sox players, this much, they must be pretty good. With 30 teams in MLB, each team should have about 1-2 players on the list of 50 (1.67 by the numbers.) Having 4 is a good sign we are headed in the right direction. I'm liking what I am seeing.
