  1. I’d prefer Monty to Nola but I’m not sure he’ll cost more.
  2. I thought he might get that money for 6 years. It’s a lot of money, but I expected this or more. I like others more than Nola.
  3. The Nola signing had nothing to do with my feelings staying the same. I’m not getting my hopes up. Been saying that all along.
  4. If we get Montgomery and a top tier two guy, plus a good 2Bman, we might sneak in the playoffs.
  5. I think several teams will be in on him, and o r will give 2 years or an option year with a hefty opt out.
  6. That’s about the best I think we can seriously hope for.
  7. Not all that absurd a price.
  8. Of course other injuries are always possible for any player. I think the contract was low for a healthy Chris Sale. I did not choose the term “baked in,” but they factored in some missed time or lower than expected performance. A healthy Sale was worth much more than $145/5, IMO. Word it how you wish.
  9. “Big signing” is subjective, too. Some think there are 5 big SPs to sign- others 6-7. There are also some big non pitchers to sign. So maybe 10-12 total?
  10. How many full throttle teams are there? 6-7?
  11. Agreed. I would not be surprised at all. It would not shock me, if we miss out on all second tier pitchers, as well. Something like Seth Lugo and Jack Flaherty seems like far too high of a chance.
  12. It seems he has missed more time for non arm related injuries, but I could be wrong on that.
  13. Story still has4 years left, but he has his work cut out for him. 2 years in… 137 games .685 OPS Great D Not good, at all. Sale could go 24-4 in ‘24 and the deal would still be a bad one.
  14. In todays dollars $145/3 for Cy Young Sale is close, but I disagree on 2 full years of recovery, unless the surgery was on April 1st, maybe.
  15. It very well might. My guess would be we get none, if it does.
  16. If Sale was Chis Freakin’ Sale, $145M/4 would have been an acceptable deal. Instead, we got freakin’ Chis Sale.
  17. I think all teams know the risk. They will move on to someone else, if the bidding gets too crazy. There are a lot of good options, this winter.
  18. Maybe we ruin all our good pitchers by making them pitch in AAA.
  19. No. I got your point from the start. It has nothing to do with enthusiasm. We disagreed and still do. It does not change the fact that the Bogey extension was a good deal for the Sox. $20M x 3 did not keep us from signing Betts, and even if it did, the Sale contract did by more. (I was one of the few who liked the Sale contract, then, so I'm not going to flip and cry about it, now.) The Nate contract plus what we offered Betts would have gotten it done, too. Where does it stop? Every deal sucked, because it wasn't Betts? Not agreeing with your point does not mean I am overlooking it. One can think we should have signed Betts first, but still think the Bogey deal was great. If I had to choose one deal to give up to keep Betts, the Bogey one might be last.
  20. Snell & ERod to the Sox. Not bad, but not my faves. I'd rather have Gray & Monty.
  21. They should have extended Betts before Sale, Bogey and Nate. To me, Bogey was #2 with Nate close behind. We ended up with Bogey until his prime years ended. It was a great deal for the team. Sale, Nate, JD and others have nothing to do with the judging of the deal. 11.9 fWAR in 3 years, including the 40% season of 2020 for $60M - minus the 2020 pro-ration. Great deal. To say you "don't think it was bad" is not what I would call it.
  22. If I had to predict: Ohtani to SFG Yamamoto to NYM Nola to PHI Snell to NYY Kershaw to LAD Bauer to TOR Gray to BAL Montgomery to BOS ERod to CHC Imanaga to SEA Lugo or Flaherty to Sox Am I leaving out a big spender? (Feels like I am.)
  23. The Sale deal does not make the Bogey deal look any worse. It makes it look better. I've already said I wish we signed Bogey for more and longer with no opt out, but we got an All Star SS for $20M x 3. There is no way that is a bad deal or even just a decent one. It was great. Sure, I'd rather have given Sale's money to Bogey and Betts, but the Bogey deal was a great one for us.
  24. $55M/2 or $75M/3 minimum.
