  1. Gray & Montgomery would do it for me, if we lose out on Yamamoto.
  2. I'd look to give them Yorke and Abreu, but if it was him or nogo, I'd probably do it and then sign Duvall or trade Dugo & Yorke for a RH'd CF'er who can play D and hit okay
  3. I'm not talking Kluber at $10M/1. I'm thinking... $70M/2 Kershaw (36 y/o) $25M/1 Morton (40) $112M/4 Gray (34)
  4. SP: Peralta (for Mayer/Yorke/Drohan) SP: Gray SP: Bello SP: Crawford SP: Sale/Pivetta (when Sale is out due to getting struck by a meteor or from a nasty narwhal bite or whatever) CL: Jansen RP: Martin RP: Winckowski RP: Houck RP: Whitlock RP: Schreiber RP: Bernardino RP: Pivetta (FA or MiLB call up for Sale injury) C: Wong 1b: Casas 2b: Urias 3b: Devers SS: Story LF: Duran CF: Duvall/Rafaela RF: Verdugo DH: Yoshida BN: McGuire BN: Reyes BN: Refsnyder BN: OF- Abreu AAA
  5. I think our best chance at getting two of the top 30 or so SP'ers in MLB is to trade for one and outbid everyone else for another. I can't see us paying bigtime for 2 FA SP'ers. I suppose we might sign one top tier and one near the bottom of tier two, but even that is likely just a pipe dream. I don't like trading top prospects, but I think we have to bite the bullet and find a GM who likes some of our top prospects as much or more than we do. We need to guess right, twice: 1. Pick the right top prospect or two to trade. 2. Pick the right guy to trade for, and hopefully get him to extend. The, #3, guess right on who to sign. What's the chances we go 3 for 3? If we get one wrong, it has to be #1, not #2 or #3. It is one reason, I'd prefer we try and add 3 SP'ers, even if all are tier two. One idea would be to limit the risk by signing a mid 30's or older pitcher to a shorter term deal.
  6. It's not about his numbers, when he pitches. I'd put him at #3, if I knew he could give 140+ IP. The guy just cannot be relied upon to stay healthy. Planning on him to give even 26 starts is planning for failure after failure. If he gives us 26-32, great! But, that should never be what we plan on. EVER!!!!
  7. True, and the awful D makes the pitching look worse than it really was. Despite Story's return, our overall OAA numbers are still frightening: -50 BOS -30 CIN -26 MIA -22 CWS -17 OAK -13 ATL -13 LAA We are still worse than the 3rd and 4th worst team's combined (26+22=48) We are still barely better than the worst 3, 4 and 5 combined (22+17+13=52)
  8. It's not like Kike was winning games with his bat. We won despite Kike.
  9. Okay. It does look that way, but even 5 is too high.
  10. Travis Shaw was not really a prospect when traded, but he put up a couple season's of good numbers, and we got squat, but your point is a good one. Kopech, Margot and Moncada have been okay, when healthy, but none look to be as good as Devers, Bello and Casas. Hell, Duran and Rafaela may end up better than each of these guys. Espinal is the unsung one that got away (5.2 bWAR.) Beeks looked like he might be good, but not so much, anymore. Hell, as little as Bloom has traded away, Springs might be better than anyone DD traded.
  11. How can you put Sale as the #1 with a straight face? Even Clint Eastwood would be smirking.
  12. Most batters would see their numbers tumple, if you took away their best 10-11 game stretch- maybe not as much as Story in 2022, but still. If you take away that 10-11 game stretch, and look at Story's RBI per PA, he was in the upper half of players on the Sox. He started the season off very badly (.545 after 24 games- sound familiar?) He had that super hot streak, but also afterwards, he had a long streak near the end where he did okay (around .720ish?) We all expect better than that to earn $140M/6, and he has some make-up work to do, but GG D at SS and a .720 OPS would be a major improvement over 2023's SS overall production.
  13. Max, this is the worst argument I have ever seen you repeat.
  14. What is adequate to you on D? Just because Devers and Casas still end up being an overall plus, due to great offense, doesn't mean they can't have even greater value playing at other positions. Max, really? Nothing needs to be fixed? We are under .500 and headed for another last place finish. Even an optimist, like myself, can see a lot needs fixing. Nobody wants to bench the bats of Devers or Casas. I'm not even for moving Casas to DH in 2024, except when "resting," and that is when I'd like to see Devers try his hand at 1B.
  15. It doesn't matter who the manager is, if they make a choice, like they do dozens of times a game, and a couple don't work, they suck.
  16. Defense is one area you can win or lose games over. Sure, other areas are more important, but that does not render defense meaningless or something that should be ignored.
  17. The past is the past, yet you brought up that long ago homer by Devers.
  18. You really go hard into the recency effect.
  19. That is what it might take to get a guy like Peralta. 3 years left and he's 27. Maybe try to lock him up for 3-4 more. He might take an extension, if you kick up his pay in the next 3 years. He only makes: 24:$5.5M 25:$8M club option ($1.5M buyout) 26:$8M club option (no buyout) That is a very team friendly contract that allows us to spend heavily on a FA pitcher like Yamamoto and have money left over for other needs or even a 3rd SP. I'd seriously consider a deal like this, despite thinking very highly of Mayer and Rafaela. We need a top pitcher..
  20. Greenville Drive wins A+ championship! Kristian Campbell was the hero, again. He went 3-4 with an HR and 3RBI in the 7-3 win. Castro went 2-4 w BB. Rosario homered. Rogers started and went 3IP 1 ER. Penrod went 5 IP 2 ER (1BB and 7Ks) The staff combined for 14Ks and just 3BB and 6 hits allowed. Congrats! WOO lost 4-3 as Joely blew the save and Garza got the loss. Scott homered (.822 OPS) Rosier went 2-5 (up to .895, now.) EValdez walked twice (.864)
  21. Yes, he's not done a thing in between. Geeesh!
  22. 3 runs on 4 hits. Am I watching the right game?
  23. We could offer Houck and or Whitlock, plus others.
  24. Book it: Burnes or Woodruff will be traded, this winter- maybe not for prospects, but maybe so. Both could well be traded, as well.
