  1. He was actually better after the early on years, except of course year one w BOS (165 ERA+) The last 2 years, agreed, but from age 34 to 42, he has a ERA+ at 100 or better in 8 of 9 years, and the one below was at 99, so you can understand why a knuckleballer might think he can pitch to 50. Career w BOS 28-33 y/o 108 ERA+ 5.06 FIP 34-42 y/o 110 ERA+ 4.50 FIP 43-44 y/o 83 ERA+ 4.77 FIP
  2. Several posters recommended calling up Gasper and Sogard earlier. True, some also called for Cheng and Capra, at times, beforehand.
  3. Well, I'd rather we sign a 30 year old to 5 years than sign 5 34-36 year olds to 1 year deals- five times, but there are chances to sign under 30 guys, too.
  4. Crochet is scheduled to pitch live BP at Fenway, today. Anthony experienced soreness after swinging the bat on May 18th... more time off. Sandoval threw a side session on May 22nd. Crawford is throwing on flat ground. Oviedo looking at throwing hard by mid June. Casas is not swinging yet.
  5. I'm not for signing 30+ pitchers to 5 year deals. Just because Lester did well, doesn't mean all of them do.
  6. Huh? (Did I misunderstand your point?) Best records in MLB and ERA Ranks 13 teams above .500 1. ATL 1st 2. TBR 5th 3. LAD 2nd 4. MIL 4th 5. NYY 3rd 6. SDP 11th 7. CLE 6th 8. STL 21st 9. AZ 17th 10. CHC 16th 11. PIT 10th 12. CWS 24th 13. WSH 26th Now, ERA- has several teams with bad records in the top 15, but none in top 5... 6. BOS 22-30 8. TEX 24-29 10. SEA 26-29 11. DET 21-33 12. TOR 25-29 13. KCR 22-32 15. PHI 27-27 Top Offenses by OPS .750+ LAD, ATL, NYY .730-.749 WSN .720-.729 HOU, TBR, Athletics, CHC, CWS .708-.719 AZ, PIT, MIN 8 teams are between .688 and .707 The Sox are 25th at .682 (PHI, SFG, TOR, SDP & NYM are worse) Look at the money spent by these bottom 6 teams!
  7. I dont care about the HOF. It's a joke. How am i changing teh narrative and this isnt?
  8. I guess Mo had nothing to do with the Yanks playing well enough to make the playoffs and WS.
  9. Neglecting how the Yanks got to so many WS is a big ommission.
  10. Had we signed 2 from Alonso, Bregman & Bichette and not traded for Contreras, would we be much better off? I'm assuming we could still afford Suarez and Gray, which is a big assumption. In reality, even keeping Contreras, Suarez, Gray AND signing Bichette AND Bregman would probably have added 1-2 wins, while forcing JH to spend way more over the next 5 years- an even bigger assumption. Sure, the team looks way better on paper, but with the 2026 results, so far... MEH!
  11. IMO, Wake was undervalued by many a fan.
  12. Yes, and even Schwarber was highly unlikely to sign w BOS. While I mentioned B Lowe a few times, he was hardly high on my suggestion list. (He was higher than Durbin, for sure, but so w as Polanco & ESuarez.) I doubt the packages we gave for Durbin & Co plus Oviedo could have been combined to get B Lowe, but that might be the best "hindsight" what if from the winter. 1B Contreras 2B BLowe SS Story/Mayer 3B Mayer/IKF Would we be close to tied for the last WC slot with that trade and nothing else different? Had we done that trade and Duran for Paredes... 1B Contreras/Paredes 2B B Lowe/Mayer SS Mayer/Story 3B Paredes/Mayer
  13. I think I once counted 20-25 prospects DD traded that at one time or another were top 20 on soxprospects.com. Hardly any did anything super helpful, and most did next to nothing. Some call it luck, as many of the ones he kept were very young, but the ones he kept outperformed those he traded... Devers, Rafaela, Duran, Houck, Beni, Casas, Beeks, Crawford, Bello, Chris Murphy & Dalbec I had no issues with what DD did. I just don't think he'd have handled major slashes to the budget. I think JH unknowingly did DD a favor.
  14. We do know what he did here: he spent large and long and traded away much or the overrated farm. Many of the players on the 2019 and 2020 teams were in decline and paid a ton. His farm brought us Houck and Devers and precious little else for over a half decade. With a limited budget, even Houdini could not bring us a ring. One could argue 2021 was a stunning accomplishment considering the budget cuts, lack of roster depth and farm infusion. Please don't take this as a knock on DD. I loved him as a GM and defended him against the notion that he "emptied the farm." Almost every farm hand he traded underperformed, as the players we got back were almost all helpful. His major signings almost all did well to very well, but he was allowed more of them than Bloom was allowed. Even the Story ($140M/6) and Yoshida ($90M/5) deals paled in comparison to Price ($210M/7) and were about the same or less when factoring in inflation to Sale & JD's deals. He had enough to add Nate ($60M/4) and Porcello's extension at over $20M. I just don't see any GM doing enough to get us nearer a ring than 2021. Better than Bloom? Yes, of course, but that bar was set low. There was a long way to go to get close to a ring, and to do it, DD would have likely had to trade several from Anthony, Mayer, Tolle, Early, Rafaela and other young players and prospects. I'd take DD for 2020>>>, if we had an increasing budget that kept us top 3 into 2025-2026. (Note: we stayed top 3-5 due to all the DD contracts for several years into Bloom's term.)
  15. Four words: Foulke Papelbon Uehara Kimbrell
  16. Sox Nation would rebel, if we traded Chapman for 4 players like Zanetello, Romero, YRod and Weissert.
  17. Even subtracting the Devers money dumped, JH spent more in new money & extensions than in any year in a long time. (He even got STL to pay us some, unlike us paying ATL and other teams like past years.) AAV Dollars 41 Gray (STL pays $20M) 28 Crochet extension 26 Suarez 21 Contreras ($4M paid by STL) 16 Anthony extension 13 Chapman extension 8 Campbell (kicked in during '25 season) 6 IKF $160M Total ($24M paid by STL and -8M for Campbell and it's about $130M AAV. No doubt, JH has been cheap and way too cheap for too long. This is not even making up for lost time, but it is spending more. It's spending way more. Subtract $30M for Devers and it's $100M.
  18. We got Schwarber for Aldo Ramirez back in 2021, but he was not at 100%. I bet we could get someone pretty good for Witherspoon & Cespedes
  19. I know several of us suggested signing Schwaber and some other players off to a good start, but here are the names I think were mentioned the most as possible Sox targets: fWAR 2.2 Brandon Lowe 2.0 Willson Contreras (not mentioned much until we got him) 1.9 Nico Hoerner 1.8 CJ Abrams & Ryan Jeffer (who I mentioned several times as a DH/2nd C) 1.7 Murakami 1.6 Schwarber 1.5 Yandy Diaz 1.2 K Marte, Z Neto, Nolan Arenado, E Tovar, Chisholm & Teoscar 1.0 D Swanson (Kyle Tucker- "not a fit") 0.9 Paredes, B Stott 0.8 Bregman, Okamoto & Rushing 0.7 N Lowe 0.6 Donovan, O'Hearn & Chapman 0.5 Acuna, Conforto, G Torres 0.4 Realmuto, (Tristan Gray) 0.3 J Naylor, M Andujar, A Vaughn (IKF) Keaschall, McLain 0.2 Bichette, Baty, Wili Castro, Seager 0.1 Pederson (DHam) 0.0 B Matthews, B House (Betts) -0.1 W Adames, Bohm, Yorke(Devers) -0.2 E Suarez, Rooker, Hoskins, R Lewis -0.3 Polanco, Vientos, Croneworth -0.4 Yainer Diaz, E Tovar, J Bell (Story) -0.6 T O'Neill, Rengifo & Ozuna -0.9 Refsnyder ______________________ 1.9 Cease 1.8 Joe Ryan 1.6 Lugo 1.5 Skubal, Woo (Harrison) 1.3 Keller (R Suarez) 1.2 Alcantara, N Martinez, T Bradley 1.1 M King 1.0 Gore, Imanaga, Wacha 0.7 Dustin May (mentioned but for other reasons) & Sonny Gray 0.6 F Valdez, Eovaldi & Newcomb 0.5 Abel, Drohan, S Baz 0.4 Painter, E Cab, Bassitt 0.3 Gallen, L Castillo & Matz 0.2 Flaherty, Lorenzen & Quintana -0.2 Senga -0.4 Singer & R Ray -0.5 Fedde -1.0 Littell
  20. You honestly think DD wins another ring with the same budgets handed Bloom & Brez? You think the Phillies are well positioned now after 2026? Look at the massive contracts they have for players who will be 32 or over.
  21. They got the guy who literally wrote the book on the Rays way, but it turned out others from that organization went on to do better things than Bloom was able to pull off with BOS. He did find a few "gems in the rough," but I thin the expectation was that he'd find more, and with a bigger budget than the Rays, could produce better results. NOT! James Click HOU>TOR Matt Aronol MIL Peter Bendix MIA Andrew Friedman LAD Managers: Rocco Baldelli (MIN) Derek Shelton (PIT) Matt Quatraro (KCR) Craig Albernaz (BAL) Blake Butera (WSH) and formerly Joe Maddon (Cubs and LAA)- some of these have not done too well.
  22. You brought up the HOF. No way the Yanks win more rings w/o Mo. Unlikely or maybe the same but not more.
  23. And you know some teams will offer way more than $2M value for Chapman. BTV: 2.2 Chapman Players we know... 2.3 Zanetello, Romero, YRod & Cason 2.2 Uberstine & Samaniego 2.1 Weissert
