  1. are you on board with the GM Slasher deal of handing Mr. Betts a blank contract and letting him fill it in? Note - this was my thinking prior to last season. as he gets closer to FA i dont do this deal. do i do it today? yes.
  2. exactly. so you agree that JD should take some reps at 1b this spring?
  3. X-bo is untouchable for me. unless the player coming back has the name of a fish on his back...
  4. this is actually a really really good point. especially for a player that grew up in the Org.
  5. footwork is required but is an easily learnt skill. hence why WTF! should have him spend the past offseason and ST working on it. we shall see if it happens this season. i suspect it will.
  6. the fact that JDM didn't spend last offseason and ST working on 1b is criminal negligence by WTF! i expect C-BlOOM! will fix this approach this coming year. moon - keep an eye out for Sox personnel swinging by the TX Nokona factory picking up a couple Bloodline Pro Series P3's......
  7. what 2 teams do you have in front of them? lemme guess....the feckless yankees and paper tiger rays???
  8. i think he just paid to have the whole building moved to West 57th.....
  9. for those that have not been paying attention or have had their head in the sand.....welcome to the cliff......
  10. this entire reply is why WAR is a terrible tool to use. and especially to use explicitly.
  11. is it neutral? besides Harmony, who on here lists games played when throwing around WAR stats willy-nilly??? (not sure what is going on with the website but this was a Notin quote i was replying to and not a moonslav59 quote)....
  12. bye JBj. bye Mookie.
  13. also, i was on record last year stating that we would still have won the division and still have won the WS if you replaced JD with player xyz. we ran away with the division so you could put a negative WAR or eyetest average player in his place and we still win the division. our pitching in the postseason was nails + a few timely hits from players not named JDM fired up the duckboats.....
  14. 1. expected by whom? what other teams even made him an offer? and if so, terms of offer? (i still say DD bid against himself). 2. where can we trade JD? and for what? are we simply going to salary dump him? (i'm ok with this) or are we going to eat $$$? (i am very much not OK with this). based on what happens with #1 and #2, i reserve the right to retract my "thanks DD" comment. but until then...thanks DD!
  15. Thanks JBj for all the good memories and helping bring us a parade. i had a blast for the 4 seasons i tracked you daily vs your NYY CF counterpart. best of luck to you and your beautiful family wherever you end up next season. i will always be a fan and root for you to keep doing you. the kids in the Boston area hospitals will miss your frequent visits and the streets around the Fens will miss your scooter. Stay Humble.
  16. i am shocked. apparently the market for a .304/.383/.557 DH only type is less then $60MM / 3 years. maybe that makes sense as we basically were bidding against ourselves for JD's contract a couple years ago when he was younger/sort of played OF. in hindsight we paid the greatest DH of all time far less $$ and he didn't embarrass himself when he needed to don a glove in an NL park.... the winners of this decision: JD, TB, NYY, Tor, Bal the losers: RedSox we now have to cut/trade 2 of the greatest outfielders to ever wear a red sox uniform. thanks Dave!!!! so glad i bought Manny a Xander jersey instead of Betts jersey......
  17. so another reason dWAR is f***ing dumb. and people use it incorrectly all the time comparing different OF positions.
  18. we can go back to balls that bounce over the fence = homeruns no more catchers gear/masks no black or latino players no more DH Tradition!
  19. By more I meant he needs JD to opt out and sign a new larger contract. Aav doesn’t matter to boras, just total contract. If JD doesn’t opt out boras just gets the % on the remaining contract.
  20. Great post by OT in another thread that i thought should go here: Don't know where to put this but in watching the WS last night, the importance of getting ball and strike calls correct was brought home to me again. MLB had put the umpire behind the plate that had graded best on getting ball and strike calls correct and yet humans blink and can otherwise get things wrong at times. One such time occured in the 7th inning. Greinke had given up a homer to Rendon and had the dangerous Soto at bat. The count was 1 and 1. Greinke threw a sinking pitch to Soto that was well within the strike zone and should be made the count 1 and 2, a pitchers count. Greinke grimaced at the call of ball and then tried to nibble and lost Soto. He was removed from the game and the rest is history. It wasn't the only bum call as Correra was called out on strikes on a pitch that was several inches inside. I know there will be boo-hiss comments from those who would not favor robo-umps but you could make a case that the WS outcome was altered by a bad call when the technology was there to avoid the issue. I don't know if it will be brought up in the news but maybe it should be.
  21. i love this post. im so sick and tired of umpires (especially home plate umpire) deciding the outcome of baseball games. we have the technology to significantly minimize the umpires footprint of game results. why wouldnt we want it to be...i dont know...the actual PLAYERS that decide who wins and who loses......... enough with these humans calling balls and strikes. enough.
  22. IMO until there is a 100% balanced schedule + DH for every game played + robot umps; comparing team records is meaningless.
  23. Also, it was the middle of the inning. it all fell apart pretty quick on greinke. cole takes longer to heat up then a normal reliever. he was getting loose to come in the following "clean" inning. this is a non issue for hinch. now leaving in greinke vs bringing in harris is certainly up for debate...
  24. All 7 W’s by visiting team. Mind boggling
  25. That hit the roof
