  1. Basically SouthPaw, we just need to keep pace. Ny & TB don't worry me as much as Bal & Tor on that front. Are your rather tranquil posts concerning injuries to ERod & Smith genuine? Because I thought these two were goingto be a big part of any success we had this year. We've been keeping pace without them yes, but will that last?

  4. For some reason all CAPS bother me, but all bold does not. I wonder if there is a way to set defaults on here regarding font, font size, bold, color etc? I'm guessing no, although I haven't investigated that thoroughly enough. I'm a fan of subtle font variety but not interested if i have to change it for every post.
  5. Yep, he does have a point, i just wouldn't throw Quintina in with the rest. And Wright has always been more consistent than Kelly in my view. I think Wright may have better stuff than Wakefield and Wake pitched 'til he was in his mid 40's. Wright could have a very nice, long career as our 4th or 5th SP eating up innings and giving us QSs
  6. I don't believe our SP situation is solvable via the FA market. Not any more.
  7. I'd argue Quintana has been one of the best and most underrated SPers of the last 3 years. Wright has pitched way better than I ever imagined, but I thought from the beginning he'd be an effective 4 -5 and rack up a lot of much needed quality starts. Wright's last start was in the pouring rain, a game that probably should've been ppd is his only blemish.
  8. Not every trade is the Kimbrel trade or ... Atleast it shouldn't be. Any trade involving our current blue chip prospects should be for a cost controlled totr SP. not for someone already making FA type $.
  9. Portland W 5-3 Andrew Benintendi: 2-3, 2B, BB, K
  10. No, of course not. Swihart & Devers wld have been, followed by a few others. I still think the Mets are a good trade partner candidate. D'Arnaud is good, but injured quite often. On the surface, I thought Swihart & Holt (great fit for the NL) specifically would make alot of sense for them.
  11. Seriously, my reaction upon reading ERod getting hurt this past Spring went from a quick "no!" and a "why?" To a much more prolonged Darth Vader "Nooooooo!" followed by something very similar to the classic Nancy Kerrigan "Wwhhyyyyy???"
  12. If he's not in better condition can we frack him? Or would it cause too many earthquakes?
  13. At least Smith wasn't shagging fly balls in the OF in ST for no reason whatsoever when he got hurt. : / I don't know who to blame on this, but the more it drags out the more I feel the need to assign blame. I just hope somebody in the organization felt the need to slap their forehead over this.
  14. As much as i'd like to turn Kelly into a RP, given ERod's status, there's not much to dispute. We need quality starts, he doesn't have to blow the doors off. He needs to just not implode and we should be fine. That goes for everyne on the staff at this point though.
  15. I'm still a little surprised Holt wasn't traded along w/ some prospects for a SP. I thought it was the most obvious thing to do. Holt is a fire-cracker though. Maybe they were worried about chemistry?
  16. I knew you weren't proposing that. It was just funny to think about lol. The absurdity of it would be border line cruel to some of our fine members here. Last I checked Iggy was batting 9th. Has his defense dropped off?
  17. I miss the days when the ERod news was: oh he's fine.he's jst sore." Give him 72 hrs". He'll be fine.
  18. I'm liking the rotational DH more and more if we're fast-tracking Benintendi (and possibly Moncada). That way we cld use the $ saved and start extending guys like Betts, Bogey, Maybe even JBJ and Erod if its warranted. Either that or spend on pitching if there's a totr FA SP to be had (Although I don't think there is one to be had).
  19. Jose Iglesias for DH? Do me a favor... Track down S5 and propose this idea. ( I can already imagine an everlasting, omnipresent, east coast structure fire that would ensure everyone could roast marshmallows from their front steps forevermore) lol
  20. Maybe Nintendo can make it as a SP? Trey Ball is destined for LF, it's so obvious to me now/s/
  21. "punished is not the right term". I'm all ears, what terminology would be appropriate? To paraphrase, you're saying the stigma of the DH is well deserved. I'm saying if there's a stigma for the DH, a Closer should also be stigmatized. Basically, I'm hinting towards, If Rivera gets into the HOF, Papi has to as well. Both are niche roles that are part of the game as we know it. For better or worse. Just trying to clarify.
  22. Good points. I'll say up front I'm not a big fan of Pitchers batting. I also think the DH can bring in younger fans (which is a big concern to MLB). I'm confident that if Ortiz played 1B say on a NL team his whole career, he'd been fine. No issues. Does a Closer contribute more than a heart of the order bat day in day out? He's also gotten snubbed out of a few MVP awards as well due to being a DH and to me that seems like a punishment for circumstance that are out of his control. In Papi's case, for what he's done for baseball time & time again, he's a no-brainer HoFer. The Papi appreciation thread is a good start, but I think we're all gonna need professional therapy for after he's gone.
  23. Did not, not could not. Different league as well. What additional value do pitchers provide? ... Besides pitching?
  24. Do pitchers predominantly get inducted because of their offense? What about their defense? Is Mariano Rivera going to get inducted? He only had to pitch 1 inning. The save is a relatively new stat (1969). The DH was used the first time in 1969 as well, but not implemented fully by the AL until 1973.I don't hate on Mo, I'm just using him as a measuring stick. There's 5 closers in the HOF, mainly due to their relief efforts. The DH is part of baseball whether people like it or not and it helps the game. In Papi's case, it's not like he couldn't play a good 1B. The team he was on took advantage of the league rules and optimized their lineup. He shouldn't be punished for that.
  25. I cld see not giving up a heck of a lot for CarGo at the deadline. He's a FA at the end of the year, so there really isn't any type of commitment on a guy like that if Houston is looking to drop some payroll and get a little value back for him. I don't want to pin my hopes on Benintendi for this year, but it's exciting to think about. And I do believe it is possible. By the trade deadline CarGo wld be owed what?, $5M. That's chump change considering sox are already over budget this year and staring at a possible post season run. This is Beny's first actual challenge. We'll most likely see at least some early weaknesses in his game that we haven't seen before. He may struggle here and there initially, and that can be a good thing. I feel like the Sox took an awfully long time promoting him, that pattern suggests he cld be in AA a while maybe all season no matter how well he does.
