  1. 1) You keep changing your question 2) I never made any actual conclusions. 3) I'm sure Castillo has pitch selection issues as well. I think he'd do well to shorten his swing (maybe even crowd the plate a little). From what I've seen watching Castillo, and from what I've read and heard, his long swing isn't fast enough for MLB pitching whether that's adjusting to something off-speed or catching up w/ a FB. Kinda like JBJ up until last August.
  2. Sure, you can increase some bat speed. (i mean it's worth a try. There's enough correlation that it might mean causation). Swing your bat about 1 ft & 1/2 standing by a chain-link fence. Don't let your bat hit the fence. Repeat. Good luck.
  3. I just didn't want to jinx it. Great start by Kelly!! Betts keeps rolling And JBJ 26 baby
  4. Oh boy here we go LOL. Did I say something wrong or inaccurate? I think not. I thought Miley was a great pick up for Sea & I'm happy to see them doing well this year.
  5. Hugh is right. A lot would need to happen for the Mets to want to trade one of their SPers for anything. But it is more likely they'd want to upgrade their offense if they're in contention and prospects don't help in that very likely scenario. However, a few Key things to keep an eye on w/ zero added speculation: 1) Harvey Arb Eligible 2017-2018, FA 2019. 2) Wheeler's recovery from TJS due to come back mid-season. 3) Financially the Mets are still a Mest.
  6. I wasn't comparing their MiLB #'s. I was comparing JBJ's adjustment to his previous long swing by shortening it and creating more bat speed, to Castillo's present long swing, lack of adjustment on shortening it and his continued lack of bat speed.
  7. I'm still failing to see how this proves some major point? The 2015 Last place Red Sox had a better record than the Mariners. I was talking about the Sox trading Buch to a Playoff contender for the '15 trade deadline (if healthy, I'm sure it would have happened). As reasonable as Buch's contract is, Miley's contract was not only reasonable, it's a downright bargain in comparison to most. Taking Miley was clearly the better deal for a losing team. This hardly proves anything.
  8. You fellas can trash Buch all you want. Why not? I have too. I'm sure we'll have all of this season and the 2017 season to hate on him.
  9. I'm not the one who brought his record up. Don't act like it's my main argument when it's a simple retort.
  10. I didn't believe when I wrote it either. Just a day dream. A hyperbolic day dream is all : )
  11. You mean his 75-54 (W-L% .581) overall winning record?
  12. Lol Holt does have concussion issues and has had them in the past. I can't prove a flying Spaghetti monster in space causes some concussions either but...
  13. Thought I read Swihart was an OFer until Boston transitioned him a catcher? I know he has more value as catcher, but playing a little LF doesn't destroy that value necessarily. Could up his value in the long run even... But he's gotta hit.
  14. Miley was a still a way cheaper get and fits well at Safeco field w/ his GB%. Eats more innings. This argument is little moot because I think the Sox are contendets now btw. If Buch was healthy last trade deadlne, he was a strong trade candidate coming from a last place team... to a playoff team of course.
  15. Never heard that rumor. But I already established that he was hurt. Was ithis before or after his negative MRI?
  16. 1) You're preaching to the choir about Buch's failures 2) It's been long established that Buchholz's seasons can go 50/50 either way or 50/50 Ace-like/Hurt. 3) If he turns his season around and puts up respectable #'s, even for half the season, I guarantee you his 2017 option of $13.5M will be pick-ed up again. Don't kid yourself. He would have to totally bomb for that not to happen. With his ceiling it'd still be questionable (at that price).
  17. Sorry, I call BS on this. Between his mid season injury last season (which would of course nix any trade), the FO regime change, the fact that his salary is a huge bargain if he hits his ceiling which makes him a rare commodity (for Bos or any team), and past rumors of other teams and their evaluators thinking they can "fix" him... i don't buy it. Too many factors go into why he hasn't been traded already.
  18. Post season... a La Bogaerts. That's when we see him.
  19. The worst thing Ben did was not go after A. Miller hard that off-season after trading him for ERod. Hated losing him to the Yanks ... In essence. Other than that ... Well and the Sandoval signing... Ben was great for us. This team is still 85% Ben btw. You can credit some to Theo and some to DD as well, but Ben Cherington still deserves much of the credit more so on the things he didn't do then the things he could've done.
  20. That's actually a very good point, considering similar troubles at the plate, similar issues w/ not shortening their swing enough. They should use JBJ as a sort of case study if they haven't already w/ Castillo.
  21. Because Buch is a 50/50 flip of a coin and the pitching market has been pretty bare and very expensive as of late. You pick up his option because of his ceiling. You pick up his option because other teams still covet Buchholz regardless of what any fan thinks. You pick up his ($13M) option, then you forget about him and build the rest of your rotation starting at the top. Ideally, that's how I'd approach it.
  22. Doesn't matter, there will always be minor data to try and play bat vs. Pitch matchups. Heres your platoon: Young first 2 AB every game/ Castillo last 2 AB (better arm, better late game defensive option) every game. Give or take.
  23. Well yeah, we could use a bonafide #2-#3-ish type SP as well. That's why ERod's injury hurts us. Would I take a present Ervin Santana over a present Buchholz right now? Sure. But for our efforts, and our prospects (we don't have many mid-tier prospects btw), and for a possible play-off run, I think we should aim higher. If we're gonna do it, why go half way? I've never liked the idea of having to depend on Buch, but picking up his option was a no-brainer in my opinion. You take that gamble.
  24. The flashes of brilliance at the plate, coupled w/ an open spot in our Major League OF... but all in all JBJ was rushed. One can look at him being rushed two different ways. Was it a bad thing that he got exposed? Or was it a good thing to see where his weaknesses at the plate were? If he was never brought up until now, would he have just delayed the adjustments he'd eventually have had to make (shortened swing, better pitch recognition, etc)? These are just questions. I really don't know for sure. I think the Red Sox were in their right, at the time (after his epic monster Spring Training way back when), to see what they had. By all rights, when looking at his MiLB #'s, then witnessing his MLB struggles... In retrospect He was like the anti-Shaw. Baseball can be downright baffling sometimes.
  25. Well, the trade dealine (non-waiver) is August 1st. Teams generally wait to see if they're buyers or sellers. Late June, early July, mid July... we should get a better picture of whats out there. I hope the Sox don't wait until 3:59p Monday Aug 1st to address their needs. But even if they did, it's still a whole month before Sept comes around.
