  1. Yeah i know what you mean. Last season had me in fits when they faced a new new SP. We made whoever look like the next phenom. I hope this years different.
  2. I drafted Carpenter and it's been a slow start thus far. I think he's gone 2/4 the past few days, but nothing special. Longoria is batting .015 better and has 2 more HRs and 3 less rbi than Carpenter. So not a big differential. Runs re about the same with MC 15 EL 14. It comes down to who you think will get hot and maybe look ahead at bat vs SP matchups. Anybody know tonights Sox/sox lineup?
  3. Factual answer: Kinda' Swihart played OF until being moved to the catcher position early on. He needs more reps there of course, due to not playing the position for a few years but it's not a huge stretch to think he'd be fine out in LF after a sufficent amount of reps.
  4. I'm not a psychic but I wouldn't be surprised if DD is active in this coming off-season FA market. If that's the case, i think i'd rather him go after 28 yr old Strasburg than a 36 yr old Bautista. Even when Papi retires we need more SP help than offensive help. Sox are already proving this past month you don't need HRs to win or to have the best offense in the league. Not sure when we graduate guys like Moncada or Benintendi, but a revolving DH is thought when/if the time comes.
  5. Which is kinda disgusting, I've heard that too Slash. Thing is, if you're any good it won't kill your career to have the surgery when/if you actually need it. The stigma of needing it or having it done has gone away. This preemptive bs just to gain 2mph on your kid's FB should be illegal.
  6. Christ, half the Mets' Starting pitchers have had early TJS. I wish we had one of them, poor mechanics or not. Yeah, I'm curious to see what he get's in FA, I'm sure he'll get crazy $, they all do.
  7. Still shocked he got the win sunday. He got squeased a bit, but I expect him to overcome such things. I sure hope we didn't get suckered into buying another high-priced lemon. He's a bit of a slow starter, whick I never really noticed before and it's still pretty cold & rainy out. It's not really warm yet and and definetely not summer yet. He's a warm-weather player. It might even explain his post-season numbers. This is reason alone is enough to justify shopping for another TOTR SP in the immediate future.
  8. We have a lot of players w/ good to great contributions, but I'd say Wright. He's got his work cut out for him tonight vs Quintana and some good bats.
  9. BC wasn't just stock-piling them, he was also trying to promote them as much as he could. It was up to the players to stick. JBJ was rushed a few times and couldn't stick. Betts on the other hand never looked back. WMB couldn't stick. Bogey was decent enough (just barely)& enough signs to keep on. He gave Webster & RDLR a lot of chances, ect...
  10. Yeah, it's not record breaking by any means.that wasn't my point. But his MLB career isn't 2 seasons old if you add it up. His career is a sss in of of itself, but defining him by a fraction of that is obnoxiously misleading. There may be a time Betts moves off the leadoff spot, but not any time soon. Quite simply he's our best option.
  11. Concerning Betts' .298 obp, I think you may be putting a little too much stock into 24 games when his career obp is .342.
  12. Unless we pay out the ass again to get a TOTR SP, a trade like this seems inevitable. Not sure how teams view Kopech and his two seasons of suspension and injury (attitude, smarts?), but the talent is there. The main pieces wld of course be Swihart & Devers. Maybe replace Kopech w/ Marco Hernandez? Guerra would've been a nice piece to tip the scales, but thats a whole 'nother can of worms I'd rather leave closed. Either way, I know I've come a long way on how to view Swihart. I feel this team is close to being championship caliber again. If a trade like this puts us over the top and is cost controlled I'd have to pull the trigger. Imagine DD does something like this and in the off-season still goes after Strasburg?? We'd be set for a while.
  13. Atleast Young gets 22 ABs, Castillo didn't get any. Look, castillo could very well be sunk costs compared to his contract. All I'm saying is that he's probably more valuable than Young in LF. Defensively by a lot, offensively maybe just slightly. But You play the better player that could help the team win. I personally think that better player is Castillo over Young.
  14. Woke up this morning, read some baseball related articles and the same thought occured to me. Benintendi needs to get the hell out of single A. Soon.
  15. I like Rusney's arm and playing LF in Fenway I really really like his arm. Offensively we could do worse and with Young it seems like we're actually trying to. We'll see how this plays out over the season. Castillo got off to a slow start to his spring due to two weeks of the flu, he could be a slow starter, he could be a streaky hitter as well. Fact is we don't really know a whole lot about him cause he's never consistently given playing time and admittedly his health is always suspect. If he proves himself in AAA I want him back up.
  16. You could say that again.
  17. Well, the high K% is nice too see especailly when one considers not having both ERod & Carson Smith pitch a single inning. I know some of us keep mentioning those two, but it's hard not when we all expected to have them. Just something to consider that's all.
  18. Thanx Slash. So much can change from year to year... Like the relevancy or emphasis rather of our collective GB%.
  19. MLB- "BOSTON -- Through the first 20 games of the season, Red Sox pitchers got off to a record-setting start in terms of limiting contact. According to Elias, the 210 strikeouts by Boston is the most of any pitching staff over the first 20 games of a season since 1900. The 2015 Guardians had the previous record with 198." This is a good sign.
  20. So, I'm starting to like Shaw. I hVen't given him too much thought u til now. I know it's versus the lowly Braves, but still. He's starting to win me over.
  21. Wasn't my intention to leave anybody out, but just to add Kelly to the list
  22. Agreed. I heard last nights game that this is always Price's bad month and he thus always turns it on, Porcello looking great w/ Vaz catching, Wright has been a welcomed addition, and ERod coming back soon. That's 4 out of 6 positives and I'm giving Buch a little more time as well. I think he'll improve. Buch gave up that grand slam, but he usually gets out of those kinds of jams ... So I'm hopeful as of right now. It hasn't been that much of a "slow start" as much as its been a mediocre start. Lot's of teams not playing up to expectations hovering around .500.
  23. Yeah Barnes or Light it seems to be a toss up, but that's to be expected. No slight on Kelly either. With his stuff he could really make a name (and a career) for himself if he could condense his repertoire to one inning of relief (if he can keep his control in check). Work his way to being a Closer if things go right.
  24. I voted for too early you nitwits, but it's been the pitching staff as a whole, not just the starters. Koji blew a game, Kimbrell blew two saves (even though we still wound up winning one). Our defense is tops in the league and our offense is a little sputtery but still pretty good. Prices velocity drop is a tad concerning, good thing is he's an actual pitcher not just a hurler.
  25. I love to see a Taz, Hembree, Kelly, Smith, Koji, Kimbrel BP. I'm hoping Wright wins the #5 slot.
