  1. Well, right. Because they suck. No arguments there. I still think they try Elias when they HAVE to.
  2. I think Elias gets another shot for #5 slot right?
  3. We're using a 4 man rotation right now because of all the days off we have make that possible.
  4. A little more. Detail on what transpired and his availability rumor seems premature: http://www.thescore.com/news/1040525 ------------------------------------
  5. I have to admit, I'm glad they happened to draft a pitcher.
  6. Ya' know. 17 immature compared to what? 18 immature. Lol
  7. I thought Groome would've gone earlier.
  8. Groome still available w/ just Seattle left.
  9. I could be alone on this, but if the Royals were desperate to make a deal, i wouldn't hang up the phone right away. He's 25 years old, great stuff, although his stats don't show it. Could he grow out of his immaturity and poor attitude? Maybe? He may grow tired of batters charging the mound. I get why one would want to stay clear and let some other team trade for him, but I'd be interested to hear what KC would want for him in a trade, even just as a reference.
  10. Ok I'll bite... So just how experimental was this submarine pappi #1 worked on? Lol
  11. I still don't see how Swihart playing some OF makes him not a catcher. He just turned 24 and has been rushed twice now and his bat seems to play whatever position he's playing. I believe teams still recognize him as a catcher first.
  12. I don't think my view is narrow, just trying to draw a line in the sand metaphorically if you will. It's a thin line to begin with, I'll admit. Now if I quite literally tried to draw a line in actual sand and another person tried to kick sand over my line, that might be a sport. If I drew a line in the sand and another person tried to draw a "better" one, I would consider that a competition (no defense).
  13. Sweet. Thanks Hugh. I was actually looking for this thread earlier this morning and contemplated starting one. Glad i didn't. Was ill prepared. Only thing i can add at the moment is the usual: Draft the best player, can't draft based on need necessarily.
  14. 'Athletic Competition' then. Yeah... I like that.
  15. Right. They aren't sports. They're not even games. They're activities. Athletic Activities.
  16. Does the Ryder Cup have charging linebackers? How 'bout a person with a tennis racket waiting in front of the green? No you say? Look, Golf is a fine game, but for technical reasons I don't think its an actual sport.
  17. I don't consider Golf a sport. To me a Sport has to have offense & defense. Chess is a Sport. Golf is not. The obvious argument against this view is that in Golf, the course itself is the defense. I still say no. I'm talking about active defense from an actual opponent, not passive defense derived from your environment. A Sport can be a Game, and a Game can be a Sport, but Golf is simply a game.
  18. We still have our starting catcher (so the depth worked out). The day we don't I'll start to worry. I predict Leon will catch Wright so well that he'll force his way as Wright's personal catcher for the next decade.
  19. What about Lawn Darts? Lots of casualties
  20. Oh, Peil.... right.
  21. I don't think it matters what the Sox use Swihart as, it's what another team sees him as and what that team will use him as. Considering no catcher on the planet can catch Wright all that effectively, i think Swihart has been judged way too harshly from his 2 passed balls on April 10th. Both Hanigan and Vazquez have looked just as bad or worse trying to catch Wright.
  22. Sometimes a break is better than a sprain "they say". I guess I feel for him a bit more because i just had that happen, left ankle too. Can't believe it wasn't broken. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain ( I am a Red Sox fan after all ) I was on the ground alot longer than Swihart was. I realize that could mean nothing as far as the extent of injury though. I'm sure he'll be out more than 2 weeks, but I would wait on all the doom & gloom until after the 2 week prognosis.
  23. Back in mid-April, I fell two feet doing yard work and I sprained my ankle reeaally f***in' bad. Theres still the slightest swell to it and although its much better now almost 2 months later i still feel it a little. Swihart should be fine from the latest report i read. His immediate trade value may be hurt if we planned on trading him to a contender this season, but I doubt it significantly hurts his value at all. Any team looking to rebuild that was interested in him before this happened isn't going to let a sprained ankle get in the way of how they see him.
