  1. Lol I know. I was busting on Maxbialystock a little bit. He had me cracking up.
  2. Sox scouting Hellickson & R. Hill, and Hill just had a nice line last night. 6 Inn, 1 ER, 10 k... We need R. Hill here fast. Fast like that Richard Gere movie where he drives to Point Pleasant in under two hours where it should've taken him well over six hrs...
  3. Ha! Yeah, i've found that out this past winter myself:/
  4. I don't think Benny is expendable, even if Moncada plays LF, we still need a DH next year & I'd rather have a revolving one. Although, Benny wld probably play LF & Moncada would DH if tgey both got called up. As far as Hill goes, I'm thinking a few prospects they like and nothing really that close to what we'd consider blue chips. They signed him for one year and he's 36. He was never a big part of their plans long term. We'd pay the rest of this year's contract of course, and offer more than what they'd get for a comp pick. A very attractive offer, but no blue chips. They want that we walk away and say no thanks.
  5. I don't know why, but I always envisioned a separate draft later on in the year for the international players. Geography, travel, media coverage concerns, education systems might not align timeline-wise vs USA HS or 2 yrs of College eligibility. I could be over-thinking it i suppose.
  6. Doesthe promotion or addition (if you like) of Brian Bannister tell us anything? He did work closely with Rich Hill last season and he's been money ever since. Is a trade for Hill in the cards?
  7. Ah, Good. Hilarious, factual, and irrelvant was exactly what I was shooting for there.
  8. This is where we agree on Buch, actually. I wanted to pick up his option, but count him as depth, not rely on him to carry the pitching staff. I've been pining for Kelly to the BP for some time now. I'm very curious to see how he does in a relief role. I also think this move reaks of a trade is about to happen.
  9. So Hellickson is a FA after this season. Any thoughts on Phillies' demands for a trade? Could he solve our #5 SP problem, perhaps? Could still go after Rich Hill and the like...
  10. I know some trade beans for oil. And baseball players for money. I've no idea what thier tax structure is.
  11. I wanted to go after Fister in the off season, but w/ an incentive-laden contract and way less $ than what he signed for. He had a horrible season. He was just as much a risk as Buch. It really started to look like Fister's career was over the way he pitched last season. I liked Hill too, but his 4 excellent starts w/ the Sox last season didn't make up for a career plagued by injuries & underperformance. Not enough track record to go into a bidding war over anyway. I see why they stuck w/ Buchholz over those guys. Sometimes it's the devil you know too and again, Buch's contract comparatively speaking was worth the risk.
  12. Amazingly enough, MLBTR reported just last week Buch has still been "getting attention from rival scouts". I've said this before to the dismay of others, but some teams think they can "fix him" or at least find him intriguing enough to try. Don't kill the messenger. Obviously, i doubt we get much in return given how he's pitched, but that was never my point.
  13. The Red Sox had limits put on them after signing Yoan Moncada. All this stems from exceeding thier international pool due to the Moncada signing. And if you want to know what I think, as i'm sure some of you don't LOL:), it was all worth it. MLB could tack-on another year of restrictions and I still wouldn't care. Getting Moncada trumps all this bs. Good job Ben.
  14. I can't see the 2nd bounce but somehow how it did bounce up and just hitting the green padding (especially at the angle it did) seems unlikely for that to happen without a 2nd bounce. IDK. Thats the spookiest RF corner in baseball in my opinion.
  15. That description is from the 2-3 articles that have been out there this whole time. That wasn't new info. It was from the same 3 articles everyone else has read months ago.
  16. If it hit the red, on what Remy said it bounced twice, then that would be part of the seats/stands and should be a ground rule double. Not saying it did, it's a tough call though.
  17. Probably because it's just got that snitch bitch feel to it. Like, you threw one house party in the noisiest neighborhood on the planet and someone called the cops on you, type of feel to it. That's all. And if that's really all they got on the Sox then I'm left with being a little puzzled. Unless they were bundling prospects ... And cocaine lol ... I'm still left scratching my head over it. That's all.
  18. I think I agree with that no interference call. For one, we didn't have a great look on where the ball initially hit the wall. And secondly, the fan who reached out & grabbed it wasn't really trying. It's not like he wen't out of his way to interfere with it or was leaning over the wall. He barely even left his seat. He just reacted like anyone would and extended his arm. We did get lucky though. What does anyone else here think about the actual call?
  19. The specific details are unknown, but yes, it's something like that AND EVERY team does this. Again, it's not THAT much different than the actual MLB draft. We signed players just a week ago from the draft underslot for $10,000, to put it towards Groome who's asking for top & $4Mil plus. $10k vs $4M... Do the math. In the International market, Some deals are probably more shady than others to varying degrees (admittedly), but what you described above... Is the typical way of doing business for every team when trying to sign international players. What it sounds like to me, is that if the Sox didn't do those deals, the trainers would have simply found another team that would have, so either way we would have lost those deals. MLB is essentially ruling that the Sox pushed the envelope a bit too far. Ok. Whatever. Sure. If you say so. It also sounds like a bit of jealousy from some unknown team(s). Perhaps? I wouldn't rule it out.
  20. I want to ask the Cardinals if the Astros did this too.
  21. I don't remember Workman projecting to be more than a BOTR guy. I liked his poise more than his actual stuff in '13. After TJS, maybe he's due for another look? But at this point, we really are throwing anything and everything at the wall to see if anything sticks, as far as the BOTR goes.
  22. Both Margot & Guerra were top 100 though weren't they? I considered Margot a blue chipper, would that be acurate?
  23. Yeah, it's definitely more convoluted than that, but the tactics are strikingly similar and the end goal is the same. I agree, they should change the rule if they don't like the rule. It's no secret every team takes advantage of it.
