  1. Not sure we ALL thought that. I would've preferred we traded for a top SP before we signed someone like Price or Cueto to big money. Given our starting staff at the time, signing Price was logical enough, but still risky. I hope we get to sign Betts and JBJ to extensions. Much less risk than a 30+ SP. Although I do worry a little about JBJ getting hurt in the field.
  2. Wright went 13-2 last season. With Price out most of the season and ERod missing significant time as well, and assuming Wright would've made relief appearances and/or even long relief appearances to rest the BP on top of all that. I'm talking about our record, not games up or games back. But that's fine,I'll revise. I don't think I'd be going out on much of a limb here to say we'd probably have 70 wins by now (we're 67-51).
  3. The AL East is pretty formidable though. Christ, even Sale gets knocked around some of the time.
  4. Well, he did change leagues. I'll give him August to try and catch up.
  5. If Wright wasn't gone for the season, I think we'd have 5 more in the win column, and that's being conservative. But Pom and ERod have done their part, I agree. It's worth being cautious w/ Price, I'd hate to lose him totally right now. Porcello is the one that has got to step it up in my opinion.
  6. Catching fulltime too demanding on that ankle. He always had a nice contact swing with double-triple power. Maybe 1B can let him concentrate on developing a little more HR power? Or just concentrate more on hitting, period. I wish him luck as well. He's an all around good athlete. Could be a blessing in disguise.
  7. not sure either. I didn't read the article. hahaha
  8. You think we cld trade XB for some prospects (for Cliff reasons), upgrade SS defense, and upgrade 1B offense next season? Or, half way through next season?
  9. you ... whole article readin' mothaf***er
  10. agreed. That's a typical way to approach him though. Pitchers also have to execute high heat and low and away sliders. ... something they haven't done that well even when trying to. Again, credit his size and his reach.
  11. My point is is the incremental difference in performance for SS and 2B worth their contracts? I rather overspend on 1B, 3B, DH than on middle infielders. But that's just me. I see what you're saying and I think teams that have the where-with-all do try to go with that formula. Bogey could be better defensively and Pedroia is usually money but his range to his right can be suspect at times (purely observational by me). Other than that, with JBJ and Vaz/Leon, I don't think the Sox are that far off up-the-middle defense-wise. I also think XB could be the most expendable after this season.
  12. Is the AL ROY still a lock or is it up for grabs? About 50 games left depending on team schedules and make-up games. It'll be fun to watch. Judge's massive strike zone (not his fault) puts him at a disadvantage and that's something he'll have to deal with his whole career. I like Beni for 20 HR, 20 SB, .280, .800. I've been a little disappointed w/ Beni vs LHP and he'll probably have to improve his numbers vs LHP to have any sort of chance.
  13. Never said it was. Sure doesn't hurt the batter before him though (whoever that batter may be on any given day). The thing with Wake's "cary-over affect" is different. It is different, but I don't find it to be THAT different a concept.
  14. Plus it's human nature to strategize . You can't prepare for what you don't know will happen. You have to try to prepare for what might happen.
  15. Ya know, for a guy that believed Wakefield had some carry-over affect for the next game's SP (something I also think was real), I'm curious as to why this concept is so inconceivable and laughable. It's a very similar concept only inversed on the opposite end of the spectrum.
  16. jacksonianmarch is correct. Reed IS overachieving... for the 3rd year in a row.
  17. No, it's pretty easy actually. Protection does exist.
  18. well there are those too
  19. Nunez was my second choice, but as others have mentioned... Harrison would've cost much more to get. Nunez could've ended up my first choice if I'd known how much difference in cost was. Both could spell Pedroia if need be, so that's an added bonus I really liked. Nunez is in his prime, having a career year. He's a career .280 hitter but batting .320 this year. Career .320 OBP, .350 this year. Career .412 SLG%, this year .460. There's no commitment here other than this year. Strike while the iron is hot. Reed hardly walks anyone, has closing experience, could be a Closer for half the league IMO, pitching 7th or 8th inning for us. These were very good moves in my opinion. I really like DD's low-key trade deadline moves (ala Ziegler). Nothing too flashy, all about the need.
  20. Cool.
  21. He took over for "Coach" and Cheers didn't miss a beat. s*** actually got even funnier.
  22. Did Farrell have a stroke nobody knew about? It would help explain the incoherent word salad. And the line-ups he's thrown out there all season long. Not to be insensitive but it's reminiscent of John McCain's "Grilling" of Jeff Sessions two months ago. It wasn't a stroke but it was brain cancer. My advice to Farrell is to take advantage of the great medical care he has access to because something could have spread.
  23. Yeah i dont think this Devers cat is gonna work out. Too early. It's really too bad.
  24. I'll tell you this .. for free: Still like Nunez 1,000 X more than Frazier.
