  1. Huge dinger by Kike with a man on.
  2. You betcha. They had that 7 game streak, then the Yankees whomped them at Fenway, and they went into shock.
  3. I too agree with illinoisredox. Managers who charge out to do anything other than to keep a player from being throw out are foolish.
  4. Vazquez has caught a great game and now drives in the go ahead run in the 9th inning. I remain disgusted with the rest--even Devers--of the Sox lineup.
  5. Houck was on 3 days rest. The real culprits are those rotten, stinking, choking lineup players who play lousy defense and can't hit.
  6. You gotta love what Houck is doing today--and give some credit to Vazquez as well.
  7. I had that impression. Renfroe broke the solo rule last night, so he's lucky to be in the lineup today.
  8. Yes, he is indeed. Plus I like him. I just think the chewing tobacco is stupid.
  9. Finally, a solo dinger--what else?--by Devers on a fastball right down the middle. I guess the rest of the Sox so-called hitters can relax now and say, "well our job is done. The rest is up to the pitchers." Pretty obvious that's how JDM thinks. 2 K's in two plate appearances. And you'll never, ever guess how he K'd. A slider away. Isn't that amazing?
  10. Is it possible for Bogey to look any worse at the plate? He lets two fastballs go by for strikes, then swings and misses at a slider.
  11. Houck pitching great and getting zippo support from the lineup which is simply choking. Again.
  12. Sox have one freaking hit in 3 innings, so I don't want to hear about hard hit balls.
  13. No runs in 3 innings by a Sox lineup stacked with their best hitters but not their best fielders (by a long shot).
  14. Tanner Houck, who bats what--10 times in a season?-- had a better at bat than JDM.
  15. Sox players with positive DWAR's include Kike, Vazquez, Arroyo, and Bogaerts. Plus Iglesias has been pretty good at 2b, Renfroe has made some great outfield assists, and Dalbec recently has been decent at 1b.
  16. He hit it hard right into the defense.
  17. Overkill. No one with any sense would argue starting Sale today when tomorrow is just as important. And, should the Sox get to the postseason, the wild card game just might be important too.
  18. Freaking Rays are relentless. They are set, but just can't help hammering the Yankees. And the Jays, home at last, are doing the same to the Orioles, the very same team that just took 2 of 3 from our Sox.
  19. Houck was/is the inevitable choice for today. He was the last starter sent to the bullpen, and he is better these days than Richards or Perez. Starting Sale a day early makes little sense because tomorrow's game is just as important. Today once again is going with his eight best bats in a NL park although Verdugo is getting the nod over Dalbec--lefty hitter vs. Nats righty starter. That said, only three Sox lefty bats out of 8 position players. JDM in RF makes sense because, while he doesn't have much range, he does have a pretty good arm. Renfroe's is even better in CF. So Verdugo gets LF. The weird thing about Houck is that he does not have a big repertoire--mostly 4 seamer and slider with occasional cut fastball and/or splitter--but he also doesn't have great command.
  20. About the Sox horrible, terrible, worst defense in the history of MLB. Consider these 2021 DWAR's vs. the 2018 DWAR's for the Sox: CF +2.1 (Kike) vs. +.4 (JBJ) C +1.2 (Vazquez) vs. +.2 (Vazquez) 2B +.7 (Arroyo) vs. -1.5 (Nunez) SS +.3 (Bogey) vs. -1.0 (Bogey) 1B -1.4 (Dalbec) vs. -1.2 (Travis, Pearce, Moreland) 3B -1.1 (Devers) vs. -.9 (Devers) RF -.4 (Renfroe) vs. + 1.8 (Betts) LF -.1 (Verdugo) vs. -.6 (Benintendi) If you add up the plusses and minuses for both years, the 2021 gets a +1.3 and 2018 gets a -2.8.
  21. Plawecki was getting a pinch-hit for for two reasons: a better bat and to replace him with Vazquez, who is usually better with the bullpen. Regardless, it is absurd to think that Cora's decision on a pinch-hitter in game the Sox lost 6-2 is significant. Pivetta was OK when he needed to be really good, and the bullpen stunk once again. Even worse, the Sox lineup got 1 run in 6 innings off of Wells, whose ERA is 6.75 (and was over 7 before the game).
  22. 3-1 Orioles. Earl Weaver would be smiling ear to ear.
  23. Now Orioles on 2d and 3d with no one out thanks to a walk, a single, and 2 WP's.
